COD 4 Is Out

Game seems fun, but I don't know if I'd buy it without multiplayer.

And yay for the EOTech holographics weapon sight! I have one too! :D

Yawn.

When are we going to get another real FPS? (Raven Shield anyone?)

I mean yes, the game is very pretty, it looks amazing and runs even better. Everything looks so nice but why does it still feel the exact same as the last 3 call of duty games? If the multiplayer is amazing I'll give it a shot, but from the way the demo was played it seems all to familiar.

The "cinematic" linear presentation is wearing thin. These games feel like you're on a "dark ride" at Disneyland. Everything feels so scripted. The freedom of choice is an illusion.

I could not agree more and what you described is exactly what is felt in this game. When they first did it it felt amazing, but it's just getting so old now.

What is your complaint about BF2, I'm curious.

As for this demo... I commented in another post, but basically it comes down to this: With infinite enemies, there isn't a point in shooting back. Just sprint to your next objective location so the storyline moves forward. Kind of takes away from what a FPS is about to me.

BF2 has been one of the most frustrating game experiences ever. The game released buggy as hell, and two years later, its still buggy as hell. Every time a patch comes out something gets worse, and I usually have to uninstall and reinstall everything to get the patch to work. Sometimes I have to do that randomly anyways, because the game magically stops functioning. Likewise, the netcode is pretty crappy compared to other FPS games.

Now, add that to the fact that COD4 has what is looking to be an amazing singleplayer where BF2 has none, and IMHO a much tighter multilayer setup (I wasted a month away on the MP Beta).

BF2 is a fun game at times, but in my opinion, COD4 will be better in absolutely every respect.

You are ignorant then. Not being mean. I am just saying that you must lack experience with COD Multiplayer. I play COD 2 Multiplayer and we get about 4 new maps a month. PLENTY of re playability and COD 2 is STILL one of the top 3 Multiplayer fps out there.

spaceman, if you read my post slower, or even use a "word finder", you will not find the word: Multiplayer.

Try it.

Couldn't find it couldn't you?

Shocking.

I played COD1 & 2, both SP and MP...both are awesome. MP maps are excellent too.

Unfortunately my post, is not about MP. It's about mod from modders who would create new missions, new characters, new weapons (attachments, etc) and maybe a complete new campaign(s) even its linear.
Therefore increasing replayability.

So take it easy next time spaceman. Read a little bit slower. I know, we all make mistakes too.

Cool? We got enough hate & anger with real life.

;)

OMG, Such amazing game, well writen. I have average of 75-100 fps on my setup with 1920X1200 resolution. I get just about the same fps on COD2 as to this new one. I was expecting lower FPS around 65-70 do to all the high detail graphics. I have Crysis demo but COD4 fps is better. Love the detail facial on the soldiers.

See my system spec below.

Yeah a Q6700 and 2 8800GTXs running SLI.
With that dinosaur of a system, I'm suprised you can run it at all.... :p
Truly shocking you can get playable framerate with that setup.

Yea but what good is 2 video cards. The demo does not have SLI support yet. I notice only one video card warming up and other bottom on is cooler. Oh I enable the SLI bar in the nvidia control panel, I see nothing. Unlike Stalker or Oblivion. I guess no SLI support in the beta.

I love BF2 and no other. Would I like COD4?

COD4 is one of the most impressive shooters I've ever played. As far as modern military shooters it's king in my book. The weapons are excellent and realistic, the detail all around is good. The game even performs well. (On my systems anyway) Aside from that you've got explosions some enviromental damage and an intensity that is unrivaled. I was really impressed.

Add this also to a gun enthusiast friendly category of games. This game has the weapons modeled correctly and the shell casings and actions are all on the right sides of the weapons and the weapons are also operated correctly. The slides lock back on the M4 and M9's, and when reloaded the slide release is used to ready the weapon. They don't cock it again (which in real life would eject the unspent round in the chamber). If you reload before the mag is depleted then the mag is simply replaced. No cocking happens. (As it shouldn't.) Some caliber weapons can also hit people through walls making some cover nothing more than concealment. This is also a nice touch.

I just can't say enough good things about it. I'm really looking forward to the full games release and I haven't played a COD game since the first one. (I hate WWII themed shooters.)

I forgot to mention, I did enable Dual video card in the graphic options, but still not SLI functioning.

In fact, in the demo, there isn't even any freedom of choice. All of the action pretty much just stops until you hit an invisible trigger, and alternate routes are blocked off by rubble or invisible walls. CoD 2 and even Half-Life 2 used the same mechanic, but did it much better.

In general, I found the CoD 4 demo underwhelming. Maybe it's just an issue with the poor design of the demo level, though. They really should have included multiplayer in the demo.

I loved CoD. I loved CoD2. I can tell by the demo already that I'm going to love CoD4.

I know I did. Played the demo numerous times this weekend and loved every second of it. It actually runs extremely well on my system, with practically no slowdowns on high settings.

Definitely going to get the full version. I really can't wait!

If you are not having fun try playing on the hardest difficulty setting. CoD one and two were extremely enjoyable on Veteran.

if only it wasn't buggy on my system :( :(

I can't bring up the sights without my view clipping out and going totally wonky. It's a known demo issue, but I think I'll get it on 360 to make sure it works right. Played 2 on 360 anyway.

That's what i'm saying...If you didn't like the other COD's then you really won't care for this one either. If you were a fan then I guess you'll love it. I'm hoping that the online game will be way more fun. Then again I didn't care for the demo. I might pick up the game when it's $20.

I'm a big fan of BF2. This is no BF2.

Weird.. I guess I didn't check the SLI bar though the game did seem to run alot better when I enabled it. I run it at 1680x1050 with shadows on low and I'm getting nearly 300 fps in some spots. I did update my drivers. 164.75 maybe? I forget the version number. Not on my home computer right now to look it up. I was using some older drivers that were junk in Cod4. Once updated, tripled the framerate in the game.

great demo. its like being in a modern war movie. definately buying the full version.

I came across an enemy soldier who I thought was dead, but I saw him reach into his pocket and pull out a grenade, so i popped him, and ran for cover as the grenade exploded. great moment!

I downloaded the demo from Gamespot, when I double click to launch it flashes up a small window then vanishes. I can't install it, any ideas?

Right click the file and hit properties. What is the file size?

so...fileplanet is only letting you download 741mb even if the file is bigger than that? No wonder this demo doesn't work for anyone who got it from fileplanet. :p
Or, are you saying EVERYTHING is 741mb? Even files that are actually smaller? Cuz if I get on fileplanet to download a 20k file and I have to sit there while it downloads 741mb of nothingness, I'd be pissed :D

no no, it downloads everything, the download manager just thinks that every file they have is 741mb :p

It's only downloading the right size, but it just quietly goes on reporting 741 for everything, quite happily as well.

Got it to work by extracting the .exe with Winrar. Not sure why it doesn't extract by double clicking on it. File size is 1.37GB

I loaded the Demo on my computer last night. It looked pretty good but not great on my system. I loaded it on a machine I'm building my sister in-law today and it looks awesome!

Can't wait for the game to come out. And I really need to upgrade my stuff.

Just got done playing the demo and it was impressive. Graphics were gorgeous, the gameplay was really fun and intense. Glad they moved out the WWII genre and went to modern warfare. Overall I really liked it and will pick up the game one day.

Pretty bold statement there, especially considering the game hasn't been released.

Have you never played an actual tactical shooter before? Those are where the realistic guns are. I think the guns in this game are alright but they still lack realism. The M4A1 feels like one of the guns from CoD1/2/3 (can't remember which one, not the thompson...), it's just skinned differently.

You know I liked CoD1, but you can only do the same thing with a series for so long.

I can't say I'm a fan of BF2, but I know this game is nothing like that so far.

I'm surprised so many of you use the Fileplanet download manager, can't stand that thing.

Yes I agree with you, the M4A1 is not so realistic and not the tompson for sure lol. Yea! I hate that fileplanet download manager too lol. I guess he never played an actual tactical shooter game before lol

lol to me the guns aren't that real in terms of sound accuracy but the intensity and the whole battle feeling rush you get from the call of dutys is what everyone likes :). It makes you feel like your actually fighting a war and not just like 5 guys behind some gate that you see all glitching in and out lol.

Yeah its that rush feeling of hey I'm actually in a war right now.. I love the arcade style of the game, its more of a shoot and go game, with tons of action. It is one of the most thrilling games released this year.

Reminds me a lot of the German MP44.. or an automatic version of the Gewehr, actually, now that you mention it.

I love the MP44 ;)
