Its only "wrong" because some control freak said it is. If you are driving 350 mph, even though the sign says 25 mph, and you don't ruin anybodies property or kill anyone, there is nothing "wrong" about it. And spare me the "well, something COULD happen..." argument. A meteor COULD hit the earth and this whole argument would be moot. Monkeys COULD fly out of your butt.
Speed limits are simply money makers for government. If I go "too fast" near you or someone else, why must I pay a third party who is not involved at all? How does that make any sense?
Actually, if you want to get all technical.... you have to know your tire ratings and the tire ratings have to support the speed. You do tend to wear the road the faster you drive, especially speeds like those, you also increase emissions pollution greatly at those speeds.
So one could argue based on technicality that you are really harming others as they have to pay for roads and they have to pay for the pollution you produce.
You could also argue that speeding relates to 31% of all car fatalities, which means the tax payer has to be impacted as highways are closed and medical services are dispatched.
The problem is that you might be a safe driver, but the other guy is not. You might be focused and professional, the other guy might be texting and not paying attention.
The other problem is that you use the argument that nothing has happened and we might just as well say a meteorite can hit the earth... well it takes one mistake on your part or your counter part.... or it takes one simple mechanical/tire issue.... and you will become part of that statistic. Simply saying that no one gets killed speeding is a false and dangerous belief.
