So I just ran through and examined the pics. I have 6 words to say.

Norm Abrams eat your heart out.
 
A few notes/questions.

Nice project, huge project, but real nice, you will have to come over to cowtown and help me out when I get a house next year.

Two things though, why 2x4s? I can understand in a bunch of the places using them, but I would have went with 1x4s, or 2x2s in a lot of those places to reduce weight. But hey its you moving it later not me :)

Also, I see you put your monitor stand by the window, you not worried about theives? Or lightning? Very rarely, but I have seen a bolt come through a window after a radio or anything else sitting in a window seal.

Anyway, sweet project, can't wait to see the final product. You just found yourself a new job, custom desk making.
 
I just have a thing against anything less than 1.5" thick unless it's high-quality hardwood. Splits are a pain in the ass- so if it's hidden, it's a 2-by.

Not worried about lightning- have a bunch of trees and telephone poles that will attract the lightning first.

Thieves- The desk will essentially be bars on the windows when it's done; and the blinds are always closed intentionally- really hard to see in.

Your doing an amazing job on this man. I really love the idea of having a custom desk, espeically for how much time many of us spend at our computer :).

I'm with everyone else. I can't wait to see the finished product but i'll be looking at the updates every step of the way. I hope you enjoy this desk even more than your first build.

Eh- not my first build (computer or desk) , but same difference ;)

Based upon materials and time at this point, along with reasonable profit- $15,000; no less for sure..
 
This whole 12 hours a day at the office thing kinda puts a damper on non-office activities.. Will post something shortly..
 
I took off about an inch of plywood with my belt sander to get it at the height I wanted and level.

Working on power- this area will be hard to access once the rest of the desk is built. The dark plugs will be plugged into a battery backup.

Broom and dust-shovel thing. It's great having hardwood floors- really easy cleanup. I mop with Murphy's oil soap once a week to get the real fine dust. Just have to be careful to not step on a screw thru the sawdust- that will scratch the floor..

It's controlled by my budget. So proabably another month or 3. Only so much Oak I can buy at a time :D

That's my center speaker platform. Speaker wire hole.
 
My boiling wood method for bending stuff won't work for larger pieces.

Came up with a new method.. (I can hear all of the pot-heads now.. damn dude!)

  • Gas Stove
  • Used dryer vent hose
  • Aluminum foil
  • Stick of wood inside, waiting to be steamed by boiling water
  • Bucket on the floor to collect condensate
 
Again suck a sweet are man, are you going to cover up the electrical sockets/hide them if you know what I mean?
 
Cool project. I am anxious to see how it turns out. There is a chance that I could be building an office this summer.
