Borderlands 4

Does anyone remember what Borderlands 3 did to GPU's when it first came out? The same thing that Borderlands 4 is doing to current GPUs.

And yet does BL4 really look that much better at "badass" settings compared to BL3's ultimate/baddass version running on the same newer cards? Another difference is that BL3 was exclusive to Epic Games on PC for six months. When it hit Steam I picked up BL3 for effectively 50% off. I knew people that bought the base game on Epic because they really loved BL series. Then they bought the ultimate/gold edition with all dlc's for cheaper on Steam than just buying the DLC on Epic.

A cell shaded art style game that can't run a solid 60 fps without upscaling and/or frame gen on a current year card. Nvidia optimized no less and this series has always favored Nvidia.

About the only thing not a problem with this game's performance is its ram usage, meaning 8GB cards are not crippling performance.

I couldn't tell you if it looks better than BL3 at badass because I have a 5070ti and my sons are running a 3070, a 3060ti and a 9070xt and we ain't getting Badass levels with those cards. I was merely pointing out that it runs just like BL3 did at the time of release.

Game is "inked" style, not cell shaded. Strange that Crysis made a name for itself by beeing hard to run but if another game is harder to run then some E--sports titles oh lord have mercy.

I'm pretty sure they could have made BL4 look 90% as good as it does now, for a decent uplift in performance, but saying the game is badly optimised because it runs slower on your hardware then you would like is silly.

It also seems that people have a hard time grasping the concept that you don't need ultrarealistic graphics for a game to be difficult to run.

People judge performance on perceived visual quality vs frame rate and lack of stutters etc. When something looks like a 10 year old game on low with performance at a level that is below high or max settings in a lot of current games, then it is fair to say it is poorly optimized. Could of course be that they made a lot of really bad choices and decided to optimize a trainwreck and that a well performing game would require a total rewrite.

Crysis was more infamous and performance was considered a joke. Basically Crysis looked and performed worse than far cry on the settings you could run it at unless you had Nvidia 8800 series hardware. At least it looked gorgeous and ran decent if you had high end hardware. If becoming a meme and being the laughing stock is a benchmark, then BL 4 might be well on it's way.

The weirdest thing about Borderlands 4's visuals is how rough things look at a distance. It's tough to tell a bird from a bat from a ship from whatever until you're right on top of it.
When you get super close you'll see that most things are really detailed. But if you even get 4-5 feet away, there's a gray aura around everything and it's blob city. No clue if that's a setting or what, but that's how things look with everything cranked and even trying to run native sans upscaling. Based upon performance, you'd think those details would always be there, but you literally can't see a damn bit of detail on anything unless you're borderline touching it.

Realistically can this game be "patched" and updated to fix a lot of these optimization issues and poor performance? Or is the game just stuck like this, and that's it?

Or do we need to wait to have [H]ardware like a RTX-6090 48GB video card, and a 11800X3D cpu, with 64GB DDR-6 RAM, and a 2,000 watt power supply?

I think "that's it" based upon what RP is saying. You have to imagine that if they could do more they'd tell people as much. Pitchford is literally telling people to hold off or refund the game if they're unhappy right now. Those aren't the words of someone who thinks performance improvements are coming.
I don't think you need that much of a deathstar system if you're willing to at least try DLSS/framegen, but that seems to be a weird sticking point for some folks. To the point that they'd rather refund the game than even try 'em.

RP knows damn well that after two hours of playtime you cant refund the game, that includes the time you're are configuring graphics and key bindings in setting, plus going back and fourth game to settings vice versa tweaking this and that. So your time for actually playing the game and deciding if you like it can be very limited.

Both Stalker and BL4 use the same engine, Stalker was poorly optimized at release and got heavily criticized. After numerous mega patches the Stalker performed better but it wasn't a OMG moment, it's still very demanding and relies heavily on upscaling and FG. So it's possible for improvements but nothing that you'll jump up and down about.

The only game in the last 20 or so years that I haven't been able to get at least 60 fps was Crysis, every other game I got 60 or better at max settings (unless we are going back to my 486/66). Today with my current PC on native resolution I barely get 45 fps at 1440P, and it played like crap with very little going on, basically unplayable without upscaling.

What do these codes do? Are they discounts on buying the game?
Have you ever played Borderlands before? SHiFT codes have been in every game. You get Golden Keys for them which opens the big ass loot boxes with skulls on them at main hub stations.
You can get a couple of good weapons, nades, class mods, shields , skins, or shittier than you already have by using a key. It's pure RNG.

Sometimes you will get a SHiFT code for an end game weapon like a level 75 or something and you can't use it yet, you can always sell that bastard for like 2 billion and buy shit like a king for the rest of the game.

Best thing about them is you can copy the codes and go to the SHiFT site and go to rewards and redeem them without even owning the game, so you could buy the game a year from now then login into your SHiFT account and get all your keys, that goes for all the Borderlands games, there are still lots of codes out there that still work.

If you are planning to get the game, get the codes too now before they expire. I've already redeemed all the Borderlands 4 codes and I don't even own it yet.

Thanks for the golden key codes, and redemption info, CAD4466HK ! I'm going to snag this soon (I'm not phobic of dlss or framegen) so it's good to know I can start redeeming codes now.

all the ones ive seen posted had 48hr limits. not sure if that was mentioned previously...
  • B9XT3-HX6TT-W6BBW-TTJT3-JTFKX → 1 Golden Key (expires September 16)
  • 39RTT-3ZR3T-5FJBK-3J3J3-C5CRT → 1 Golden Key (expires September 16)
  • THRBT-WW6CB-56TB5-3B3BJ-XBW3X → 1 Golden Key (expires September 30)
  • T9RJB-BFKRR-3RBTW-B33TB-KCZB9 → 1 Golden Key (expires October 1)
  • WHWJB-XH3SX-39CZW-H3BBB-BTF55 → 1 Golden Key (requires linked My2K Games account, expires October 1)
Repost of a post. The last three are still good for awhile and so is the discord one.

If you redeem them before they expire, they will always be in your game as long as you link your SHiFT account. I've been doing this for years. I was getting codes for Borderlands 3, 2 years before I bought it and had over 100 of them when I installed the game. You can just go to the SHiFT site to redeem them now.

There is a dude on Steam that keeps a running tab of every SHiFT code for every Borderlands game, including Tiny Tina's Wonderlands and the Pre-Sequel. Expired and not expired.

Is it a pinned thread? I got a preordered gun I plowed through the 1st boss without dying np. If I was stuck with my smg and pistols I wouldn't have done that good. Got a fire machine gun that ricochets

I found it in the guides for Borderlands 4, different guy but same concept. Luke is the guy who usually does it.

Yah for Claptrap finally doing something productive getting shocked. I'm going the Meat for Hire quest now can't wait to get a vehicle for travel gliding is good.

Yes, feels like this has everything in terms of freedom compared to previous iterations. I also like the grapple even though usage is a bit limited right now.
