where did you get that chart...? the latest one I saw was this one posted this morning on the forums...

I hope the one I saw is right...
For what? Speculation?
I'm going to try to run 2 overclocked 5830's on a CX400 and 2 more on a CX430
If it goes boom, it goes boom. Luckily the rest of the system are low power AMD setups.
5830 was back in stock for a minute or two. What is NewEgg doing over there??
Well not just that but people panicking like headless chickens because they don't understand how the 51% attack is going to be very hard to pull off (under current conditions). But as I said above the Mt.Gox pool (Eligius) was getting DDOS'd so their share was added to deepbit for some reason. In other words it ain't happening yet.
might mine... might sell my 5870s and 5970 ... meh
My power meter came in. Here's what I've got so far:
My whs with the CX430 idles at 68w from the wall. At 80% efficient, that's 55w from the psu. Adding 2 5830's should put me right on the bleeding edge, but it should work.
My HTPC is a no-go, as it idles @ 98w. Once again, 80% efficient so 79w from the psu. I don't think I'm going to try two cards on here, as it would be too close for comfort.
My desktop (5ghz core i7 2600k, XSPC watercooling pump, 2 6950's with 6970 bios flash @ 930mhz / 1375 memory, 16GB ram, 2 120mm fans, 2 80mm fans) is the following:
Bitcoin on one card running: 396w from the wall.
Bitcoin on two cards running: 623w from the wall
Bitcoin on two cards running while OCCT is running cpu burn test on all 4 cores with hyperthreading on: 690w from the wall.
So even WORST case scenario, with 690w from the wall times .8 efficiency, that's only 552w that the system is pulling. It can easily handle Trifire with a third 6950/6970 and people are blowing the psu requirements way out of proportion.

how is one on the bleeding edge that you are guessing "should" be okay and one a no go proving that people are blowing PSU requirements out of proportion...? I thought the discussion was about the aforementioned CX430 powered systems...? sounds like people were (or at least I was) pretty dead on when they said it wouldn't be a good idea to CF the 5830s on the systems with that PSU, also you had mentioned overclocking the 5830s as well, I still don't think that'd be a good idea...lol
No thanks, I'll just take my warranty replacement. Hopefully they don't have any and have to send me a 6970 instead. =)I will buy your 5870 and frankenstein that shit...lol
Right now there's only 6.5m bitcoins out there, in terms of a liquid currency that's nothing. If bitcoin actually got popular, there wouldn't be enough bitcoins to let them do anything. 6.5m, that's like .01BTC for every facebook member. I think this will keep it from ever truly taking off.
With 8 decimals of precision (which can be adjusted), that .01 BTC could essentially become 1,000,000 BTC.Coin destruction
BitCoin has 8 decimals of precision, so the entire network could operate on just a handful of BitCoins. An attacker could never destroy them all. If deflation gets to the point where transactions of more than 10BC are unheard of, the client can just shift the decimal point over so that, for example, people with 0.01 BitCoins have 1.000 BitCents.
why does my Mh/s jump around so much? on my 5870 with nothing changed except sliding the clock speed to 900 in CCC, i get around 360 when watching guiminer on my comp. im at work now, so i cant see it, but my 15-min average on the btcguild site has been from 300 all the way to 400 today. weird?
The htpc has a cx400, the 430 is in the whs. Combined with the fact that the htpc draws more power, thats why its a no go.

All you would need to see decimal coins as whole coins would be an update to the wallet software. You could still keep using the same 21m whole coins in the background and just shift the decimal in client software.
In 3 days with a 6850 and 2 days with a 5830 I managed to get $60 for my 3.5 coins. Mind you that involved some namecoin mining for a day before they revised the difficulty but I hope the price stays over $15 so this continues.
