so im getting about 300mh/s with all my cards (sadly 1 ati the rest are nvidia) and according to btc guild im up to 0.75bitcoins in about 3 days... is that right? or should i be getting more.... im a totaly noob to this looks like i should be getting about 1 ever 4-5 days so 5-6 a month @ 20 (current value) = $100

A TINY bit low, but with all the outages it makes sense.

turn off the nvidias they will end up costing you more electricity than you make in coins. Unless you have free power.

v2.1 works better with Win7 also, but it's only about a 10MH/s bump on each GPU...

do you get any more performance increase from using 2.1sdk but with newer drivers? I would rather just install old drivers that come with 2.1 than fight trying to downgrade and upgrade new drivers.

the calculations are the same for either. the difference is that pooled mining will charge a fee. Solo mining will probably be frustrating, as on average you will be accomplishing nothing for more than two months.

Is there a Namecoin for Fucking Morons guide out there? I've had a couple people briefly try and explain how to get this set up, but I keep failing miserably. And the fact that 90% of the guides are for Linux does not help.

I want to do pooled namecoin mining. I am going to use GUIMiner and point to bitparking. No problem. My problem comes when it asks for the simple "address." Well fun. The only way I've found to create an address involves downloading the namecoind program, running two instances from the cmd line and then getting the address. Problem is, I don't have a bitcoin.conf file that it says I need to "populate." Why is this shit so archaic?

so that only geeks can get it to work, and therefore only geeks can profit from it. :D consider yourself unworthy. (i am too, thats why im sticking with bitcoins.)

You didn't create the bitcoin.conf file.
It's just a text file with the rpcuser rpcpass and port info. Make a new txt document at the location it specifies, add the 4 lines it asks for:
Code:
rpcuser=xxx
rpcpassword=xxx
rpcport=9332
daemon=1
Save it as bitcoin.conf. Then namecoind will run without throwing that error window and you'll be able to interact through the second terminal.

to mine in the pool
generate a new namecoind address

and through your miner use
host:http://bitparking.com
username: is the namecoind address
port:9098
password: any you choose
my flags: -v -f60 -w128

LOL... I guess there is life outside a GUI... LOL...

If nothing else, it brought me back memory lane...

Thanks. Can you pick anything for the user/password or is it referring to something else?

Whatever you want. Can change the port too, but remember what port you chose, if you ever try solo mining you'll need to set that as the port to connect to in your miner.

what about the thing that you only have 48 hours to do or you lose your namecoins forever...? I didn't want to get into namecoins because I had no fucking clue what they were talking about with regards to the 48 hours but I did take note of "lose forever", I didn't want to mine namecoins and then a few days later lose my shit and have nothing to show for two days of mining namecoins when I could've been mining bitcoins...

does this sound familiar to anyone...? am I just retarded...?

I wish we could start a poll within this thread to see what pools everyone is using.

Gave it a shot. Still gives me the same message as if there were no bitcoin.conf file

nice...

have you tried the mem at 328 (1/3 the core speed)...? it might give you a little bump up...

Got the Diamond 5830 from Provantage up and running. It seems to be overclocked to 900mhz from the factory. The other strange this is it has 2 crossfire connectors instead of 1 like all the other 5830s I've seen. 264MH/sec out of the box with guiminer, -v -w128 -f15 and catalyst 11.6

OK, I have to post this somewhere, mayt as well be here. Found a guy on CL who wanted to trade his 5850 for a smartphone, I mailed him, offered him cash, asked him how much he wanted. He mailed me back 2 days later, all the mail said was "$125".

I replied, told him sold, tell me when and where to pick it up. I posted about all this here. I sent him another mail after a day or so asking about it since I hadnt heard from him, at the time the 5830s were back in stock, asked him to get back with me since if he didnt want to sell it I was going for a 5830. Finally after another full day goes by he sends me back

"Too lazy to setup an exchange as I did not expect to be selling the card and I have little need for the money.

Enjoy the 5830"

Have you run GPU-Z on it to check what exactly it is that you have? I ask because a 6870 is also 900Mhz and has the same amount of shaders, so you may have lucked out.

CL is a crap shoot...

all I have to say is that before I would buy a $150-$180 5830 on the FS forum I would snatch up one of the $190 5850s there, I don't have the funds for either so that's a moot point right now, but still, everybody seems to have forgotten about the 5850s since they've been OOS at reasonable prices for so long, but those are actually the golden cards for mining, at least 60MH/s more than a 5830 and uses less powah...

Its definitely a cypress card. I also went ahead and uploaded the bios cause it wasn't in the techpowerup database.

lol, then I'm gonna pray that the 6850 I just had shipped (I paid a week ago, ugh...) is actually a 6990...

:D

I'd even settle for a 6950...

Have any of you installed the 11.6 Cats and tried to run GUIMiner? Epic fail here when i did. I don't know what the problem is yet but I was testing out my new 6950 I just installed and it causes an instant hard lock every time as soon as I start mining. Had to revert back to 11.5 to fix it.

this is good, I also ordered a 5830 from provantage.. Maybe I'll get as lucky.

I agree on the FS area part but if you can get the egg ones for $100 5830s gives you more hash/dollar
