In server list. select "other" instead of "btcguild". change the host to either useast.btcguild.com or uswest.btcguild.com. default port should be 8332. no need to edit bat files.

I don't use GUIminer, I fire up my batch files to start up my command lines...

Has anyone ever had a delay in getting payouts from btcguild? Normally it goes right to my wallet but for some reason it's been like a 1/2 hour and still nothing.

Did you opt in for payout lock?

Thanks for the quick response guys. Google told me to shut off my anti virus and it worked. Avira doesn't like bitcoin i guess. Prevents blocks from updating.

does anyone else skip their wallet and go straight from the pool into MtGox?

eh, mtgox gets hacked and there are going to be a lot of sad people. and really with the current implementation there is not a lot you can do. someone will need to come up with encryption for wallets.

PCI-e speed has nothing to do with hash rate. The memory bandwidth requirement for bitcoin mining is very minimal, which is why you see people recommending to downclock your video card's memory to decrease heat and electricity costs. It matters in graphics because then you are making full use of the bandwidth to move texture and geometry of those games. In the case of bitcoin you do none of that.
If I remember correcly Afterburner lets you monitor memory usage but doesn't work on AMD cards. Someone with an Nvidia card can verify this though since it does work on those cards.

So you'll be getting the full speed each card is capable of, provided your miner settings are tweaked properly for each GPU. You also don't need to physically crossfire the cards, just having them powered up on the same system is enough. What you will need are dummy plugs though, or connect each card to a monitor. Here's an easy to follow guide for making your own dummy plugs, no sense in spending unnecessary cash on them: http://www.overclock.net/folding-home-guides-tutorials/384733-30-second-dummy-plug.html.

Thanks for that..
Any Pro/Con to putting them in X-Fire?
Right now im currently mining on my primary rig since I can really only use it 2 hours a day M-F (So it just freely runs all day mining), and a few hours on the weekend, so no real point in setting up a whole new PC. Ive been pleased with the results of my single 6950 so I bought another one, and in a week if prices stay the same im gonna go for 3 by cashing in my current coins at the Bitegg.com.. The single 6950 works perfectly for gaming, and im kind of confused as to how this little "hack" would work in place of Xfire.

New Questions

- Im assuming I only need to run 1 instance of GUIminer for all 3 cards, just separate their processes within the program
- Since I do occasionally game on this PC, and I see that you can choose which card you mine to, does that mean on 3 cards I could game on 1 while the other 2 run independently for mining (so long as I use the hack?)
- If they are in X-Fire do they only show up as 1 card to GUIMiner?
- Are 6950's capable of Quad-Fire

There's no rackmount cases with 8 pci slots. I would love to throw my 4 5830's in a rackmount case with some high CFM fans and just forget about them. But noooo, you can only buy them with 7 slots. So annoying.

No benefit from crossfiring them. I have actually seen people posting about trouble mining with cards in crossfire over at the official forums. Mining with dummy plugged cards works fine. Folders should have a lot more experience with this I would assume since they've been doing it for longer.

Yup, all you do is either enter the same worker info for each GPU or create separate workers for each GPU in the pool website and use those logins for each GPU. Most people do the latter for tweaking and stat tracking purposes.

Yeah, it should be possible to game on the primary card connected to your monitor while leaving the ones with the dummy plugs mining. But honestly, I've not read of anyone doing that and I can't speak from personal experience.

No they show up as separate devices and you choose from a drop down box.

Yes, but I've seen reports of people having trouble getting the 4th card to mine (crashes, lockups, etc).

P.S: I almost forgot, you will definitely experience high CPU usage while mining, varying from 10% to 100% depending on how many cores you have. This issue can be traced to the way AMD implemented OpenCL on their GPUs(Nvidia suffers from this too but you can turn it off using CUDA). It's not a bug per se and more a feature to aid OpenCL app performance. Let me quote myself here:

...the high cpu usage is due to the way AMD implements OpenCL (Nvidia too but they are largely irrelevant in this case). As I understand it; It makes the CPU spin wait ready to kick in to help if the card is about to approach 100% usage, and since the card is constantly loaded at 99% the CPU is locked in a permanent spin waiting state.

I thought the same damn thing!. i think I'm just going to make some plexi mobo trays and fan mounts

I might do it with three cards and just stick the fourth in my WHS.

Look how perfect this case is from an airflow standpoint:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811219030

You can throw in 2 high CFM Scythes and have them blasting DIRECTLY on the cards, all the heat going straight out the back. Hell, throw in a 5 drive hotswap bay in the 3 external 5.25 slots and you got yourself a kick ass WHS/bitcoin combo machine.

Eh... got 0.03 BTC in 8 hours. I don't think this is for me, heh. I'm sure my electricity to run it cost more than I made. This is with a GTX 460. Cool concept though, and it was fun to set up.

yeah, nvidia cards suck for this.

hm, i wonder what would happen if deepbit and btcguild both started serving namecoin secretly and automatically transferred everyone without notice... about 5 terahashes per second just dumped into namecoin out of nowhere! miners would see their clients go idle for a bit while the new code is implemented, and boom nobody even knows what's going on o.o

imagine the difficulty increase... holy shit

Supermicro do an 11-slot one but it's bloody expensive.

So, you all are aware that these Bitcoins are a pyramid scheme which is going to eventually implode, right?

Keyword is eventually. I dont care if it "eventually" implodes, as long as I make a few grand off of it before that happens ;)

This. I don't trust it one bit but as long as i can keep printing money at the rate of a few grand a month I'm gunna milk it for all its worth.

now uscentral on BTC Guild is overloaded...lol, dumbtarded americans...lol

Lots of stuff in the bitcoin world are overloaded. Its called spiking popularity. Why blame Americans? Jackass.

On topic:
Someone had a question about crossfire, I find that not using crossfire (using dummy plugs) is much more stable, especially with regards to messing with GPU and RAM clocks. With linux you dont need dummy plugs but its a little more work to mess with clocks and such.

This sucks. I'm gonna lose 16 hrs of mining because my computer went down.

edit. It's back up. looks like it might have restarted or one of the kids hit the reset button

I am going to get a few of those acrylic workbenches. They sell a $15 stand kit for them so you can stack them too. Pretty cool

Those acrylic workbenches are cool, and the price is reasonable. I wish they made one big enough for huge multi processor motherboards

anybody have the link that shoes when the next difficulty is and what it is?
I had it but didn't get a chance to bookmark it. i think it shows namecoin and bitcoin?

seems like the bitcoin exchange rate has been holding pretty steady for the last day or two. is it too soon to make a statement like that or do you guys think it might be stabilizing a bit? all last week it was up up up and some down, but now is the first time it looks like its been around the same spot for 24 hours+.

ANYTHING could spike it, or send it crashing. ANYTHING. It's too young of a market to even make a reasonably educated prediction. Yes, it does seem to be holding fairly steady but one news article could alter the price dramatically. I expect some major fluctuation to continue for a while but that's just a wild guess.

lets wait for thr weekend to see if it keeps hold
im in seattle
why did i not go to the conference?!!!
