No shit, I gave up on this hybrid physX config recently, sometimes these damn computers are maddening. I think chopping wood would be a real nice respite from breaking configurations...wish I lived in the country and had wood to chop...lol...

Only folding here until I have confirmed payout from the "guild"...tsd may have a new convert when I feel like dicking with it some more.

I fold with cpu and btc with gpu... not felt like screwing with the combined stuff as they are cpu only...don't see how that could be helpful...

its bitcoin dead? looks like we crack 3 dollars rarely man to think when i started it was 10 bucks..........
 
Not for me, right now my kids are bitching I haven't made a fire the last few days even though it's been in the upper 30's in the morning. Sorry kids, house is too warm for a fire, yet I haven't kicked the heater on almost at all. I'm pretty much being paid to heat my house right now.

Anyone knows how to fix this except reinstalling BTC client and let it run all the transaction all over again?I launched it without problem 2 days ago.

Not at all. Difficulty drops also mean we're making significantly more coin than a month ago. My 5GH/s went from about 3 coin a day to about 4.5 a day.

Bluefire @ 0.0 GH/s now is what has my attention the most tonight though.

$3 doesn't mean it's dead. $3 is probably closer to a real equilibrium of value. Everything from $7-25 was probably grossly inflated. With every drop, the currency probably gets closer to reality.
 
Im still pretty happy mining bitcoin as long as it hovers around $3 during the winter months. No way am i mining in the summer unless it goes way up. Not only does cost of electric go up for me, but running the AC and the extra heat from mining seems counter productive.
 
Yep, turned my "Heaters" back on this morning due to another cold snap. Just makes no sence at all once you add A/C costs to the mix.

wow no posts for almost 2 weeks on this thread -- funny enough I just installed the bitcoin and guiminer for the first time in my life this week (finally got a single 6950 2GB @ 930MHz)

running on Slush's pool right now and getting maybe 1/5th of a BTC per day it seems (if their calculators are correct) doing between 330-350Mhash/sec

I fully realize I probably won't make any money - but the heat being thrown off will keep me from turning on my central air here in my small apartment, so I figure why not (nothing to lose really) If the heat is needed either way - might as well get it from a productive/fun method vs some boring central AC thing.

I can't get simplecoin pool to work (using the latest GUI miner 2011-8-24 keep getting some weird connection error even though I have an account and fully working internet/open firewall.

What are the best pools around?

In all honesty,you're probably better off mining the Alt coins (Solidcoin,Litecoin etc) and trading them for bitcoins,as you can make more that way.

I mine approx 40SC a day with a 6970 + 2600K which = about 0.65 BTC at current difficulty/rate.

If difficulty drops again or price of alt coins goes up,even better!

LMAO, I was freezing my a*s off for the better part of an hour and though "Geez, it must be REALLY cold out".
Turns out my miners had a network connectivity problem and were sitting idle.
Since they were the only source of heat in my townhouse (I keep the AC blower on but the heat off), hilarity ensued :D
 
Mining alt currencies is way too much bother. That's two exchange rates I need to worry about and they usually go up and down at the least opportune moments and I can't jump on and sell my coins right away when I see it hit $3 because they are stuck as some other currency. I haven't seen any place that exchanges real cash for alt currencies. Should I even bother with some of the alt currencies at Simplecoin?

Aren't the difficulty drops enough by now? How much should I be making in BTC/day at the current rates if I am doing 4GH/s? I don't have a good barometer of whether or not I am doing well by mining at Simplecoin with my 4GH/s or not.

I seem to make about 8 BTC for every block they find which is about every two days so about 4 BTC/day?

With the current difficulty and ~3.6GH/s, I've been getting ~3.2BTC/day steadily at ArsBitcoin.
I usually let the miners keep chugging along and sell when the exchange hits ~$3.05 USD/BTC as it has been consistently peaking around there (max was ~$3.20) and dipping to ~$2.
 
I have a 6970 and the most I've seen it mine was at a rate of 393.6 Mhash/s (-v -w128). I've grown tired of deepbit and am trying out another pool (Simplecoin.us). I'll see if there's any difference in returns.

More to the point of this post, even when mining 24/7 and the GPU is at 78 C, it is not heating the apartment at all. If it was in the bedroom then things would be different, besides actually feeling the heat, the resulting insomnia from hearing the fan spinning at over 5000 RPM wouldn't be so great.

The apartment is like 754 sq ft. The bedroom I'm estimating is 225 sq ft, maybe less. That leaves the mining machine to heat 529 sq ft. Apparently, its too much and I'm sitting here freezing my ass off as I type this. I may soon shut it off entirely since I don't know how long I can last being uncomfortable in my own living space. But all that previous talk about it being a space heater, maybe for dual or tri-cards it might actually work, but this is my own experience. There is just not enough heat produced to make any noticeable difference in the ambient temperature of the apartment. So that space heater idea is now down the toilet. I'm going to try turning the tower around so it's facing the open part of the room instead of the wall, but I'm nearly convinced it's a wasted effort.

Anyone else freezing their assess off as they rely solely on their mining machine for a heating alternative?
 
One gpu is not sufficient to heat 500+ sf. Not by a long shot. Think about it, a gpu is like a 300w heater. Most portable heaters are in the 1000w range.
 
Ya no way a single gpu would cut it. But my 12 stack of gpus put out so much heat you could feel it from 4 ft away. I have no doubt if i was still living in an apt it would be able to heat it. Now tolerating the noise is another matter.

I know this goes against everything you've been taught but have you tried to partially cover up some of the vents on the case to get the temps up a little more? It might help to get the video card temp up to 88C-90C, which shouldn't hurt it? The ambient temp in the case will rise as well. That may just help enough...
