Bitcoin Discussion Thread Part 2

The picture says 0-0 Cayman, which is a 6900 series GPU, and a 379 Hashrate so I can imagine its a 6950, Unlocked 6950, or a non-OC'd 6970.. From what I can tell, he's doin it right.

And yeah, 1 Core on the CPU is all you need for affinity.. Use the same core for all other addition cards if you ever add them..

And copy the line below into your flags

-v -w128 -f0

Mea culpa - I missed the crunch rate :(

Curiosity question..

I currently have 2 BTC only rigs, about to be 4..
Total of 16 CPU cores @ about 3Ghz Average

Would F@H on the CPU have any derogatory effects on BTC mining?
I wouldnt mind doing both on each machine as long as they dont interfere with eachother.

Also, with all cores being utilized, how much would that interfere with me RDP'ing to each machine via Teamview when I need to make changes.. I do this with my phone (HTC Evo)

Folding should not interfere with bitcoin. Bitcoin will probably interfere with folding a little, but I doubt you would care that way. The two things to watch are whether you have enough cooling on your procs for 100% load and whether your PSUs can handle the extra load from the proc running 100%. Remote access shouldn't be affected - whatever the server app is (I am not familiar with Teamview) should have a higher priority than the folding client.

That's what I'm doing, Evil J. I have SMP folding on my AMD hex core(5 cores) and then have the remaining core devoted to supporting the mining GPUs. I think there is a little interaction but it's minimal.

On a more awesome note, SC.US just mined a block!

Sweet. I switched back to SC. I was with SC for up until Friday, but couldn't keep going without BTC. made 5.2btc on ARSBtc in that time. Will mine with SC for a few days unless they keep getting huge blocks, then might have to switch to a PPS pool permanently.

Thanks to a random guy. :D

Too bad that my reward is 0.01 BTC compare to the estimation of 0.07 :(

there's no huge block it just takes a long time of solving multiple blocks to find one that's worth any coins. It's not like simple coin was crunching the same block all week.

Waiting to hear back from Guppy via email for the 3dmark voucher.

Loderunner got one of the megaupload premium vouchers.

Still have 2 more megaupload vouchers to give away in the simplecoin forums.

Mind helping me get it setup on my rigs..
I went thru the tutorials but I have no idea if Im doing it right..

1st time I just installed the client, got my key and put it in, then noticed it only used 1 core per machine

Saw the SMP client does multiple cores, so I set it up per the instructions and it got to a line saying something like "Retrieveing 1 or 5000000 - 0%" and sat there for an hour so im assuming its not working.

The SMP units take a lot longer. Although an hour is way too long for 1%. Did you check to see if your cpu's under full load? If it is then it's working.

Have you heard any updates on our Spotswood cases btw?

OK, I got it.. Not sure what went wrong that first time but I killed it all, set it back up from scratch, and it seems to be pegging all cores now.

And yeah.. Spots says all the cases are on scheduel..
Kinda vague, but I imagine they will ship soon

lol ya i was never given a schedule so that's pretty vague. Super excited, cant wait to see them.

Did you pay top dollar for your extensions or cheap out and order them from china? I've been unable to get any of my extensions from china to work. I can't imagine I'm doing anything wrong. Did you have to do any tricks to get them to work?

From china off of eBay
In most cases, its not your cables that dont work its your config.. I have yet to find a machine that will detect a video card in an x16 if I have 1 plugged into a 1x so I just use all 1x slots as its cheaper to find boards with them than SLI/XFire

Wow I was not expecting to find the block at all! lol

I was mining on Slush`s Pool for a while and just came back to Simplecoin last night to help find the block...

tsd.. Seems the Database on SC is down.

Got to work and tried to log in and says the username doesnt exist.. Down to 8.9Ghash

I have one board that recognizes 3 16x and 1 1x just fine, and I have another identical setup that used to do the same, but now its only recognizing two cards with all 4 plugged in. Sometimes it recognizes three, but when I mine all three, they eventually die. Mining with two cards is fine. I am going to unplug the 1x and try mining with 3 16x and see what it does.

I wish I had more time to mess with it, it has been like this for a few weeks. Two 5830s being wasted not mining :(

Well, remember that depending on which slots your using share bandwidth..

Like on my boards if I populate all 3 x16 slots, none of my 1x slots work..
If I use 2 of the x16, I can use all three of my 1x slots.

Took me quite a few tries to figure out the combinations for each board I have..

I ended up just running 3 cards per machine, way too many issues trying to run 4.. I coudl eventually get 4 to work, however between CCC and TriXX I could never nail down good clocks.. With 4x5830's I could only get them to about 270-285Mhash.. Running 3 cards I can get them up to 320-330

I was moving the site to the new host. the hostname resolving isn't acting right. I've moved the dns back to the old host. It should auto-correct shortly.

For no apparent reason, the btc hostname is displaying the solidcoin frontend. Working out the issue with nginx.

UPDATE: got it! just a bad symlink.

With the one rig that is working, all 4x5830s run 310-330mhash. The other rig, I get the same speeds, just not all the cards are recognized.

This seems to have solved my problem. I wasn't able to get even a single card with a 1x extender to work in my 16x or 1x slots. As soon as I shorted those pins it worked fine.
I had to short these pins on my 1x slot to get it to work properly. I have a bread tie wire shorting the 1x slot on both boards, one works fine with 4 cards, one doesn't :/

@tsd

Ive got a couple widgets/gadgets/extensions that pull info about my miners from my API key that dont seem to be working since the DB changeover earlier. I checked my key to make sure it didnt change and it hasnt.. Any idea whats up?

I'm not sure. My API plugins seem to work just fine. Which ones are you using?

Nothing should have changed (besides the ip) with the API.

UPDATE: nvm that, seems there is clearly an api issue. Although, my api widgets appear to be functioning normally.....

UPDATE2: fixed. Missed a full path include. It was pointing to the new server code which isn't up yet.

Confirmed working now
Thnx

Edit: Note that after you posted the fix, I had to clear temp files in browser (Chrome) for Bitcoin Mining Monitor to show properly.

Woot, was able to grab a K9A2 Platinum on ebay for cheap today. Seller has no feedback so hopefully it turns out ok.

This should allow me to get rid of a few machines with single slot boards :D. I should have ordered 1 more spotwood case tho QQ.

It is an oddly worded post, but there are not any links to buy pharmaceuticals so it can't be spam lol

I ended up buying 6 extensions from China. They all work fine. Just plugged them in and the cards detected.

-edit read your post about the motherboards that needed shorted pins.
