Bitcoin Discussion Thread Part 2

I'll be doing alot of swapping with these. Probably water block 2 and put in my wifes machine and either swap water blocks with my 5870's and put the other two in my machine or put them in the mining only rig. Plus I still have the 4 5770's showing up tomorrow...

1) Fraud will ALWAYS happen.. Its not like people arent stealing other forms of cash.. Yes, there is some stupid shxt going on in the BTC community, but its all to be expected from all the people trying to make a quick buck or people trying to figure out how to exploit the system. As these things happen the community learns how to close the gap. The stupid people are the ones that keep all their eggs in 1 basket.. a basket they arent even holding.. You have a wallet file, use it.. Encrypt it, and back it up..

2) Price is a perk of BTC value, the acceptance of the currency is how it becomes established.

3) Higher difficulty does not mean coins are worth less, you just have to work harder to get them. You forget a time when coins were worth .01c... as far as Im concerned, at 6.50$, they are 650x more valuable, ~3000 at its peak.. Most people can still turn a profit as long as BTC remains over 3$. Also, difficulty can go down.

4) If you want a better deal on video cards, buy used or watch sites.. Some guy in the BTC discussion just got 4x 6950's open box for 126$ EACH on newegg.. Better than any deal you'd find here on the forum..
 
Question; do the 1GB 6950's hash as well as the 2GB? I remember hearing they were a little slower, but couldn't confirm if it was from first hand experience!
 
if they unlock I'll swap them into my gaming rig (and still mine) otherwise into a new mining box they go.
 
Just dumb luck.. I had just recieved notification of my 5770's shipping and tried to click on my shipping email link but mis-clicked onto the card itself. The 5770's were shown instock again so I checked for any other open boxes and BAM! 6950 glory for $125!!!

1) Except when fraud happens on large scale and undermines the entire point of the concept. Especially when the spokesman is Bruce Wagner, a conman, who apparently has alot of loyalists that still believes him because their life savings is on the line. Why? Who knows, they're idiots. They aren't economics majors by any means and they certainly do affect the general perception of how the price is to be determined.
2) Accepted by who? Libertarians? I certainly don't see businesses accepting it as a mean of currency when the price varies wildly based off who lost other people's wallet, steals, scams, undermines the confidence, talk about freemason crap trying to bring down bitcoins, etc.
3) I did not say that. I said the fact that the increased difficulty combined with the price of BTC dropping is making it not worth it to mine. The fact you have to drop a grand or more to try and get 1 BTC almost every other day is inefficient unless you're living with your mom & dad and they're wondering what the fuck is with their power bill and your Dwolla won't cover it.

SA Goons (Of which I'm part of) are working hard to undermine the entire concept which this horrible concept should die a horrible death. Ya there those who got in the game early and are now cashing out. The reason it's lived this long is because of retards seeing a "golden" opportunity to invest. You know why other people got involved in this? Because they're there to take other people's money, not put their money into it. If you're putting your life savings into bitcoins, I hope to god you lose it.

I am not too worried about BTC being in the $6 range, it has been there before and bounced back. This is a time to buy coins and hoard, not sell. It may be a week or two(or more) before the BTC/$ bounces back, but I am sure it will eventually.

If it doesn't, I bet there will be a good amount of people dropping their miners, and the difficulty will eventually go back down to a more acceptable rate.

Either way, things should always balance out.
 
At this point I wouldn't be too upset if bitcoins crashed. I broke even on my expenses long ago. Worst case even if the value of cards plummet and I have to sell them at $100 a piece i would be walking away with $1400 on top of what I've already made. For a worst case scenario that's not too shabby lol.

so......my wallet lives on my HTPC, and when I went to look atsomething on it yesterday its reporting a HDD failure.

so not amused that I kind of didnt really back it up(forgot to add its folder to my automatic on line backup software queue) and it had like 10 coins in it

watched fast five(yeah I know :p) the night before, came in to look at something in the AM and it was dead.
 
As long as BTC stay's above $1.50 or so i'm making money

In currency years (lolwhut) BTC is a baby, it will mature over time and when the price drops usually the difficulty drops too so it might even out. (slowly but surely)

I keep getting DEAD GPUs in CGMiner under Ubuntu. One of my 4x5830 machines is fine, the other has issues. It will either not recognize all 4 5830s, or when it recognizes 3, all of the GPUs will die after an hour or two. Reboot fixes it, for a few hours until they die again. I have swapped around cards and cables, and same issues. I thought it was an issue with one card, so I lowered the clocks, but same issue.

3x PCI-E 16x extenders
1x PCI-E 1x extender

Exact same setup on both machines, but one is having this problem. Any ideas?
 
PSU problem maybe? PSU might be overheating after running for a while and voltage is dropping on the 12v rail preventing sufficient power from the vidcards. Just a theory.
 
Could be. Both are Corsair TX750s, which are running right at their max(~750-770w from the wall). I have two 1000w PSU I can try, but I have had two cards installed at one point(1 16x, 1 1x) and the GPUs still died. A 750w PSU should be able to handle 2 GPUs.

I have 3 GPUs installed now, and two are mining, I will see how long they last. I guess it could be a bad extender cable too, I will have to swap them with the cables that are working, then maybe the working 4x GPUs with the 4x GPUs are having issues.

Just kind of sucks, have some mhashes that I can't use haha.
 
I keep thinking that when Simplecoin.us stops responding, it is due to finding a block and it is processing shares ... but that is probably not the case :(

I'm in the same boat.. With ALL NEW hardware, my one rig is running 2x6850's and 1 6950 just fine with an 850W corsair PSU and my other rig I'm trying to run 4 x 6850's with a 650W PSU always drops one unless they aren't overclocked past 900 core clock... i'm fine with that i guess.... I'll be replacing the 650w with another 850W psu very soon and then i can bump up the overclocking again :)

my final setup after today should be 3 rigs
rig 1: 4x6850's w/ 850w psu
rig 2: identical to rig 1
rig 3: 1x6950 w/ 650w psu

Its just the site front end thats down, miners should still be good to run.
I'm getting big jumps in hashrate, but my API readout still shows they are all connected and mining.
 
So my two 4x5830 rigs(only have 3x5830s in the top rig right now :( ). AC vent is right behind the box fan. Going to move my desk around and vent the heat out the window since summer is over and it is 40F at night now.

Not a bad little setup Sethmo.. I mean, Its no Spotswood case, but not bad, lol
Its gonna be a mad battle for 3rd place, but in 2 weeks, my hashrate is gonna double :p
 
You're using the box fan to blow directly against the airflow coming out of the cards. That doesn't seem terribly efficient to me.

Otherwise, though, looks great.
 
Never really tested airflow, but seemed like more heat dumped out of the back of the cards into the case, then the other way around, could be wrong though. I don't have heat issues either way, but will fix it if I am wrong :p
