BioShock Infinite

DeWitt got baptised after they fought together, and changed to Comstock after their path split. Sure, later their path joined again, but Comstock got aged due the use of the tear machine and thus Slate didn't recognized him. And got pissed off that Comstock stated he was there :)

But then how did Slate end up in the same "tear"? Someone had to bring him across to Comstock's world, otherwise he'd be in the same universe as the "young" DeWitt he already knew wouldn't he? Or did Comstock come back to DeWitt's universe?

It all makes my head hurt...

Let me see if I got this straight, memory isn't so good.

Basically what Faugustztin is saying is that Slate no longer recognizes DeWitt because of the severe aging due to his exposure to the tears. So Slate thinks Comstock is BS'ing everyone about the Wounded Knee battle (that was the name right?).

Then you show up as the same DeWitt Slate remembers. It's not that Slate has jumped through universes. He also seems kinda.. loopy.

I ended up motoring through this game in less than a week. It's tough to stop playing - the game does a terrific job of keeping your interest. One of the best games I've played in a while.

When everything was said and done, it seems like the carbine is tough to beat as a primary weapon. It's a headshot machine from the hip and it holds a TON of ammo. I tended to use the shotgun (or just whatever was handy) as a secondary.

try it with tunnel vision + overkill gear, the drawback here is you need to use iron sights to take full advantage of the buffs, but even from the hip as long as you kill with a headshot you will do massive damage to anything near them, it's godly. everyone beyond the first guy in a mob usually then becomes a one shot kill even on hardest.

I didn't really use the carbine at all my first play through. I have to say its my new favorite playing the game again. The game is still a lot of fun to just go back and try different combinations of vigors and weapons and getting those achievements :p

I never played BioShock 1 or 2, and when this game was announced my reaction was "meh."

But then I read reviews and eventually spoiled the whole story by reading synopses and watching that youtube supercut of all the story cutscenes.

The time period, setting design, etc. really isn't my style. Even after all that I still bought the game and played through it. To me it's that fantastic. The story and development of the characters' backgrounds really drew me in. It reminds me of films like Looper or Source Code in a way. Really makes you think for a while after experiencing it.

If I had to compare it to a movie I would say it's kinda like Primer in a way (or at least level of confusion and analysis required, lol).

Yeah, the ending was bizarre. I wonder why it was difficult to make a satisfying ending like the original Bioshock?

you should at least play Bioshock 1.
Bioshock 2 is forgettable and a terd.

Thanks for the tip. I was going to get the first two since I've never played the series and just bought a new card simply to Infinite. I'll skip #2.

I wish they would do an HD remake/revamp of the first game. It's kind of a hassle getting it to work right in Win 7, and there are a bunch of annoying mouse issues.

2 is still a good game, but the first and third are definitely the best. No reason to skip it really...it's cheap as it is.

Yeah, I was actually trying to start up the first game the other day and god is it a pain in the ass. Basically I'm not even going to be playing it because a) the mouse control is fucked and b) even using a 360 controller the layout sucks and is set in stone. I'd be happy if I could just use the 360 controller with the left trigger hold to aim/right trigger shoots scheme from Infinite, but as far as I know there is no way to change any of that.

It works fine through Steam for me in Win7 X64 if you wanna re-buy it that way... I got it cheapo on sale though so it was sort of a no brainer rather than pull out the GFW discs....

I have it through Steam...it works, but the surround sound audio is messed up and difficult to get working, and the mouse controls are screwy (not a Win7 issue necessarily, but still).

I'm loving the story and the interactions with Elizabeth, but the enemy variations are really starting to become repetitive. Its ironic how Elizabeth's AI is really impressive yet the enemies are completely brain-dead. They do not cover and run face first into incoming fire with zero sense of self preservation. They also have ridiculous accuracy from miles away and you will get hit unless you are behind cover and even then I've been hit behind cover. The first Bioshock seemed to have more fluid combat system with more weapon variation and upgradability. Combat almost feels like an afterthought. I remember actually being excited at hunting down Big Daddies in BS1 especially late in the game where I was fully upgraded. Here, meh.

Having said this its a fun game overall but I wish I would have wait for a steam sale. Not worth $60 IMHO.

I honestly think the carbine seemed to make the combat a bit too unbalanced. It's essentially like the sniper rifle, only you can headshot people from the waist using the normal crosshair.
While it's nothing special vs. the larger enemies, it's way too powerful for normal enemies.

It's probably only imbalanced with a mouse.

This.

I played through it on a controller at my sisters on her x360, and its wicked hard to aim correctly with the joystick, or maybe Im just not that skilled with it.

Well just finished it (wife and kids out of town) today and it was a satisfying ending overall but the narrative could have been written better. In BS1 I felt engaged and immersed with the story because of the frequent use of recordings that played when you picked them up. You also had a constant stream of dialogue with Fontaine that gave you just enough information to keep going and the end reveal was great. The voice actors really gave the game soul and made me feel part of rapture.

The third act felt like a vomit of information with no time to digest what was heard or time to figure it out. I think this game story would have been better served with more RPG elements and more interactive NPC's that didn't want to kill you. Columbia feels lifeless sans the nut jobs that want to kill you. It never felt like people really lived there. Rapture felt like people really did live in it.

Pros:
  • Great overall story.
  • Elizabeth character is well done and endearing.
  • Overall pleasing graphics.
  • Excellent voice acting.
  • Great musical score.
Cons:
  • Poor exposition. There is simple too much information that is left out. The ending can leave the player with a "WTF just happened?" moment.
  • Combat is clunky and repetitive. Only two weapons?
  • Enemy AI is very stupid and at the same time knows exactly where you are even behind cover. Basically it cheats.
  • Some low resolution textures break immersion but forgivable when looking at the big picture.
I give this game a 7.5/10 with it closer to 7 than 8. Personally I do not think this game is worth $59 let alone the season pass. After getting through the game I have no desire to return to Columbia unless they fundamentally change the game which I don't see happening in a DLC.

Great game...having a hard time picking it up again though. I haven't beaten it yet, the combat portions just arent very fun. I may just turn it down to easy and get through it.

I haven't done a second playthrough yet like I said I was going to...I bet I will eventually but I've been time-invested in other things lately.

lots of big releases came out in a short period of time (Crysis 3, Tomb Raider, BioShock Infinite etc)...now there's a lull...happens every year when all the big game releases are bunched together...don't understand why companies don't spread out their releases more...less competition means more chances of people playing your game

Same here. We see this same cycle every year. Crunch, drought...end of year super crunch in November...rinse and repeat.

Because these publishers keep historical charts and graphs of sales data and crunch numbers and run analyses, and believe that they have a formula for an ideal time to launch based on when people are more likely to buy games than others. Trend is a trend, not much arguing with it. Whether or not it makes sense to us from a customer point of view doesn't really matter, that's why the timing is what it is.

Well, now that it's been more then a month, since I've finished the game, I don't think that I received more satisfaction from Infinite, then from the original Bioshock

The problem is the game is largely forgettable with a really great ending. When I think of Bioshock infinite I think of slogging through boring combat with a lot of backtracking and then a really good movie at the end. They did a really bad job of giving the sky high atmosphere they promised in the trailers. You'd often forget you were even in a flying city most of the time.

When I think of Bioshock I think of slowly queitly creeping my way through this scary and foreboding underworld and get excited for every combat because I get to play with a new plasmid I just got. The ending was very good but I just enjoyed playing the game.

I had a blast with Infinite, but unlike the first one I'm in no rush to replay it. While I enjoyed the story and setting, the gameplay was a bit of a letdown. The vigors weren't overly imaginative and the gunplay was either very easy or a little on the cheap side (kind of like Tomb Raider) without much in-between.

While an amazing experience, I think I just wish the gameplay had more to it.

This exactly!

In Bioshock 1, I was interested in using the plasmids, and it was a grueling decision on what plasmid to upgrade or purchase (almost as grueling as saving or sacrificing the little sisters for that next upgrade).

In Infinite, I never found myself excited about any of the vigors. In fact, the only ones I used routinely were Crows and Bronc, simply because it made the enemies stop running around so I could shoot them.

Combat didn't change much from 1 to Infinite, if anything it became dumber and more tiresome, and I think that's the main problem I have with the game.

Just finished a 1999 mode playthrough. Found the missing voxophones , infusions and binoculars too. Fully upgraded Possession was my goto as enemies scale faster against each other than to you. I took out more than a couple of heavies and bosses in this manner. The last Vigor applied properly makes the final battle almost a cakewalk. I bought only one weapon upgrade early on, and hardly used it. I can't fathom playing anything above easy w/o kb/mouse.

Is anyone actually paying $59? There are lots of coupons FS (from bitcoiners I assume) for less than half that.

Just started playing the game today, so far so good... First "next-gen" title that I have gotten in a while! :p

I played the first Bioshock on PC a few years ago and disliked it immensely. It felt like a poor console port, where precision played no part and that you pretty much had to spray everyone with ammo...because you sure didn't get any feedback when you hit them. Has Bioshock Infinite fixed this?
