Yea it took me 18 hours, but I finished with ~76/80 voxophones so obviously I took my time.

people just like to criticise, because there's an equal or greater amount of those who have ZERO tolerance for it, and I got to admit I'm the same way. I tend to point out flaws immediately, just because I know the discussion is going to absolutely suck without it. mindless praise is just as bad as mindless criticism imo.
it's not a sin to talk about inherent flaws in gameplay that could've been done better, we want games to be constantly improving. not getting worse, or more of the same. when poorly designed mechanics are realised, it's more constructive to go yea this sucks, than oh the story was good so we should totally ignore that.
I definitely agree with you on this, but keep in mind the guy complaining the loudest here has a disclaimer in his sig about him being a troll.
Another thing is, when I get an "optional" objective, like "Find the cypher" or "Find the box the key opens" or something, I've almost never been able to find these things. I feel like I've been exploring pretty thoroughly but beyond the first safe that you backtrack for, I don't think I've ever completed another optional quest. Do these come back way later? Because when I leave the area that I'm in, they disappear off my objectives list.
Also, nearly every area, when exiting, will have Elizabeth or something indicating that you can "never go back" once you progress. Just makes the game feel incredibly linear and like you have to spend hours running around the same areas trying to find stuff. I'm all for exploration but it reaches a point where it gets repetitive and boring.
Spot on. THe floating city had such potential - jetpacks, aerial combat, jumping from island to island... you just feel like it was not in the air. Nothing compared to the feel of Rapture, with leaking tunnels, water splashes and such.
Same about story. Nothing compared to "Would you kindly" moment, meeting Ryan and learning who really is Atlas, and who are you. Choices didn't matter, not like in Bioshock 2 or even 1.
Just generic, overhyped shooter, with meh plot.
Bioshock infinite has been way over hyped. I would say ita a solid 8 out of 10. It has a good story and well done characters. but the gun play and ai is kinda crap. That being said, I played through it twice and enjoyed it just as much the second time, which is somthing that I didnt get out of the other 2 bioshock's.
Now I get what they were trying to do at the end even if it doesnt make much sence, but I started to think.
Why couldnt they go back and kill the twins? that would prevent everything from happening. since the flying city couldnt have been created (I think) and comstock couldnt have bridged worlds.
*slowly raises hand*
I'm maybe 5-8 hours in. It looks good but not amazing. As some say the artistic quality outweighs the datedness but it still feels old. I'm an old school gamer so it doesn't bother me but I'm aware of it. the characters and story are not nearly as intriguing as I'd hoped. They've traded claustrophobia and creepiness for movie effects and splashy action. the villain and tones feel eeh. The audiologs are rarely worth listening to.There's almost no environment interaction. I really hate the Vigors. I miss the old ones. Elisabeths head is so goddamn big its distracting. They kinda screwed up with that. I took snapshots of her next to other people. It's like they went cheap on that. She looks really out of place. Everyone else has normal model heads. She also still annoys me. I hope she gets this amazing character depth everyone has described.
I'm sorry, this is not the fifth best PC game of all time as it currently stands on Metacritic.
I think the game has been vastly overrated and the story is, frankly, a joke. Everyone using the "too deep for you" argument about the story needs to have their head examined. It's a typicalI saw that "twist" coming from within the first 5 minutes of the game, and I cannot believe no one else did either.time-travel/multiverse story that turns into a mess of unworkable plot holes that trivializes reality, and makes any force your actions had meaningless.
This is the first time I have seen people take glaringly bad design decisions and use them as examples of why the game is so great. Your choices don't matter, but "zomg that's part of the story!" Uh, ok, in any other game that would be ripped on in reviews. Zero replayability? 'It's a commentary on games as a medium of art!" What?
Don't even get me started on that deus ex machina ending. When Mass Effect 3 did it, people wanted to burn EA to the ground. When Bioshock Infinite does it, it's now the greatest gaming achievement ever?
Bioshock 1 was far superior to this, in my opinion. This is still a good game, but it is certainly not one of the greatest games of all time by any means.
Tomb Raider was definitely better than Infinite IMHO.
QFT
Even the ripped ME3 ending was giving player more control than the "superior story of this game". Bland, boring, repetitive story and combat made people hate Dragon Age II. The same stuff, even in worse style done in Bioshock Infinite, suddenly make it "best game of decade".
But it's a good way for any game makers. "Take bland, cliche story, add to it some controversial things like slavery and patriotism, mix it with boring shooting" and you will get 10/10
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deus_ex_machina
It's exactly the same thing. If anything, this is worse.
Right, because I'm the only one that doesn't think this game is less that stellar. This is just what a few users here think...yet I'm obviously a troll and all alone in my opinion. I guess all these people are just idiot trolls as well, right?
You know dude people CAN have different opinions...just because you love something doesn't mean everyone else should or that they're just wrong for not feeling the same.
I found enough to max out my sheild and vigors.
And again, no one is saying the game is perfect. But the vast majority seem to agree it's one of the better titles of the last few years.
The majority also thought that praying to a god would bring rain...just because the "majority" thinks it good or right does not mean that it is.

Dude, come on. You keep wanting to make us believe the game is a piece of shit when it's clearly not. You're entitled to your opinion but some of what you've said is just flat out wrong.
You said, and I quote, the game has "zero core gameplay mechanics, no exploration, mediocre corridor shooter". The no exploration bit is flat out wrong, and though I agree it feels pretty guided and linear most of the time it's certainly not a corridor shooter by any means. I don't even know what the fuck "zero core gameplay mechanics" means, as if it wasn't even a game that you could play at all? Seriously...
I agree the game has several flaws but none of them contribute to the game being overall shitty.
where do i check my voxophone count
Look at your progress in the steam achievement page.
There is an achievement for finding all of them.
I've never said the game was shitty...it's just not the second coming of Christ that everyone and their mama thinks it is.
And what I meant by "zero core gameplay mechanics" is the fact that there is SO much missing from the previous games and VERY little that you actually do in the game and the world outside of killing things. No puzzles, no ways about doing things differently, no minigames or anything like that. Just simply go here kill them then go here kill them, etc, etc, etc.
Like I said, the game isn't shitty, but to say it's a 9/10 or 10/10 is just plain asinine. People may think I'm trolling or just going against the majority to be cool, hipster, or start shit or something but I assure you I am not.
As I just said this game is nothing but a pretty generic FPS game play wise with NOTHING that stands out besides maybe the sky hook thing which was rarely used or was pretty pointless over all (I beat the game on hard using the carbine for 99% of the game and never once had the need or even remembered the sky hooks were there most of the time). Elizabeth bringing things in was also over used and took all the suspense out of the game...walk into a room with a bunch of tears and it's obvious some shits bout to go down.
Another thing is, when I get an "optional" objective, like "Find the cypher" or "Find the box the key opens" or something, I've almost never been able to find these things. Obvious troll
lol
It's a great game plain and simple. Some flaws? Of course. A great game nonetheless.
there is usually a clue right next to the optional objective telling you where to find it...I remember after finding one of the cipher codes Elizabeth said that it was in the Tailor shop...so you needed to find that particular shop (the place was not named 'Tailor Shop' but just look for the place that fixes clothes)...pretty much every time Elizabeth gives you an obvious clue concerning the Optional objective and it's just about finding the place...and yes you usually do have to backtrack a bit within that same level
Huh...yeah I rarely heard her say anything about the optional objectives. Hell, even later in the game when you have to "follow the footsteps" I felt like half the time it was leading me around in a circle, and because I forgot what the prompt said the first time about which places to check (and you can't check the hints again in your objectives menu for some reason) I ran around the goddamn entire area for like a half hour trying to find the last one before I finally just looked it up online.
I understand that games holding your hand is lame but it would be nice to have the information there when you need it and not punishing you for not remembering something that flashed on the screen once.
you could always get help by hitting the 'N' button in-game...it then shows you a waypoint to the location of the objective...I also lost some of the footprints and had to hit N to find them again...but like I said when you first get the objective there is usually a quick pop-up on your screen or a statement by Elizabeth which gives you a clue
That...would have been nice to know before I wasted a bunch of time, lol. I don't recall the game ever mentioning that there was a waypoint button.

It was the first thing you have been informed about once reaching Columbia.
I just beat the game today, and I really enjoyed it. Played it on Hard mode and didn't have any real problems, took me around 16 hours and I still missed a few things. Strangely enough the final boss fight was pretty easy for me, I just used possession (super under-rated, wish I had upgraded it fully) on the large enemies and ran around/hid as I picked off the stragglers. The core didn't even get down to 50%.
It's definitely more on-rails than the original BioShock, however it wasn't too bad, and I feel like the trade-off in this case was appropriate and necessary to tell the story well.
As for the ending:
I was confused at first, but after applying the multiverse theory it all makes sense. In order to stop the cycle from occuring, Elizabeth had to bring Booker back to "Before the choice is made" (her own words) to stop BOTH outcomes, where Booker either accepts or refuses the baptism. She kills him BEFORE that particular fork in the universe, meaning he ceases to exist in all forms, and therefore Anna (and Elizabeth) are eliminated from all outcomes of that fork. If she had waited until after, she would have had to gone to an infinite (well, infinite / 2) amount of universes to kill Comstock in each one.
Now, the point where he is killed is only one in an infinite number of other forks where the same exact thing, or something completely different, can be happening. So while that tree is effectively cut off, it's still possible for there to be a universe where Booker is alive, and never felt the need to get baptized. The ending shows him arriving in one of those possibilities, where he never got baptized and Anna was never taken from him as Comstock never existed.
As for the scene in Rapture, I thought it was a nice tie-in but there's not enough evidence to say either way how it's related to the plotline of Infinite. Some things do make want to consider it a possible alternative to Columbia, such as Elizabeth's words ("There's always a lighthouse, there's always a man, there's always a city.") and the fact that the bathyspheres could only be operated, after lockdown, by someone with similar genetic makeup to Andrew Ryan.

Never saw it...*shrug*![]()
Surely, if Elizabeth can open up doorways to other worlds, we could have had some delicious set pieces: trucks bursting out onto enemies, planes crashing through. Instead we get the same combination of sniper rifle/ a bit of cover/skyhook/robot auto turret, like the only place Liz can look into is an under-construction Skynet HQ. Infuriatingly, you're locked into most encounters via sealed doors that only Elizabeth can open. Kill rooms, essentially, and far too many of them at that.
I haven't played HL2 in a long time, but I have a hard time believing Alyx comes close to Elizabeth in terms of just the overall character.
I think all you people just have old hard-ons for her or something.
I think it's just due to the fact that prior to HL2 having interactive companions wasn't there.
This Elizabeth character can do more than Alyx due to the advancement in gaming, but even that being said, she doesn't lay down cover fire......she's just a woosie with some ammo and health packs.
Sure, she's central to the story, no denial about that.....and essential as well obviously.
You can't tell me seeing Alyx blast a zombie or head crab with a shot gun isn't cool.
