Posts like this make me want to scream. I'm far from a grammar Nazi, but I definitely have to call this one out. You posted several definitions for "costed" to one-up the guy who called you out on it, and you obviously didn't check to see what you were posting definitions for.

"Costed" isn't a word, and you posted the definitions for "costing", which is a word.

it is a word, but as has been described, the original usage made the guy look like a retard, his argument to using it made him look even stupider, and the argument that its a word and therefore is okay to use at any point in a sentence looks even stupider

next time, just say it "cast" you $400, and accept that you used incorrect grammar, but don't whine like a 6 year old when someone calls that out after you go on some tirade over "OMFG I SPENTED ME $400 AND I NEED HAVE ME SUM FREE GTX 295 AND A SHIRT"

seriously, I agree that a 512MB GTS 250 isn't the best return, but its nearly comparable in performance, the 1GB or a GTX 260 would've been more comparable imho, but when your warranty plan was costed out, a dollar figure was established for roughly what you "get" when the board goes EOL

Fuck if I really wanted to argue I would have. People learn new stuff everyday and obviously I did make myself look like a fool for disputing that persons comments about my grammar, but you don't have to keep restating it and restating it for +1 post count.

I was never asking for a GTX295. That is just how some people interperet it. As I said before I was just looking for something of equal or greater value.

Anyways, I just talked with a BFG Tech and he tried to convince me that the GTS 250 is better than the 8800 Ultra, but I just told him that i'm going to keep following up with Jeff on the forums.

and you keep screaming "equal or lesser value", and assuming this value = the dollar value of what you originally paid

it. does. not. work. that. way.

its equal or lesser value based on a few factors, basically how much $ they'd "give" you for the card being broken, a GTS 250 fits that very well, the 8800U is what? 2-3 years old? and just now died on you, what do you want? a GTX 295? perhaps a GTX 285? maybe a 280? seriously, they aren't gonna replace top of the line with top of the line, GTS 250 is probably as close as they can get you in terms of performance and features, without going over, and without losing money on you as a customer

again, seriously, stop whining like a kid, the thing died and they're glad to replace it with something decent, if you really hate their replacement that much, sell it, and get what you wanted in the first place, but stop crying that you deserve some top of the line part a few years later, instead think about how good it is that you're actually getting a warranty honored, getting a replacement part, and so on, years after purchase (because almost nobody today will even do that)

It would be good business for them to give him an upgrade. If they try to stick him with the 250 I doubt he'll be giving them any more of his $$$$

I'm not really asking for an upgrade and I feel it isn't fair to them. All i'm asking for something on par with the Ultra which is another Ultra, GTS250 1GB or a 260 (which is a little upgrade).

They were moving their inventory around and some new recruits are handling the RMA processing. Usually they issue GTS 250 1GBs or GTX 260's for replacements but they just made a mistake.

Isn't the GTS 250 equal or better than an 8800 ultra? Maybe not in terms of how much you paid for the ultra when it first came out... but current performance?

yes and no the GTS 250 is a renamed 9800 GTX+ which is basically the same as a 8800 Ultra

Oh...

you have not read this whole thread.

384bit memory (8800Ultra) != 256 bit memory.(GTS250), it is:
384bit memory (8800Ultra) > 256 bit memory.(GTS250)

Also, the 8800 Ultra has 768MB of ram, while the GTS250 he got has 512MB.

All this makes difference at higher AA/AF levels.

The GTS250 is technically faster in terms of processing power, but not total gaming capability. (though as a folder, I'd love this trade :))

Well said.

nm .. i think a gts 250 1gb is fair in the most realistic uses the gts 250 is the winner.

OP should have gotten a GTX 285 that is the only fair thing :) getting a GTS 250 is kind of insulting imo because the 8800 was a top top card and we all know what the GTS250 is, some rebranded piece of shit from nvidia. A GTX 260 or 275 would be more realistic but never a GTS250 come on i am with op here. If they don't fix this i just take the loss and give my money to someone else. Like the old saying

So a video card manufacterer owes you a new top end card if yours happens to die, just because 3 years ago that was the top end card at the time? How does that make sense? You'd have people purposely sabotaging their cards when they approach the end of the warranty period, or whenever a faster card came out.

"Oh! Hey! I'll just take a heatgun to the backside of the card right over the GPU while I'm running Furmark! In two weeks, I'll have a free, brand new GTX 285!"

How could a manufacterer make money off an operation like that?

A manufacterer compensates you by giving you a card of the THE SAME MODEL, or a card that is CLOSE IN PERFORMANCE to the card you need replaced. Why on earth is anyone entitled to a free x2 performance upgrade?

Onto the OPs situation, Yeah, BFG kind of cheaped out by giving you the 512MB model, in my opinion. However, a GTX 250 1GB would have been fair compensation since you, the consumer, wouldn't be taking a significant performance hit.(Due to RAM limitations anyway)

Honestly i was being sarcastic the card's value should be the lesser of the fair market value or adjusted basis which is close to the piece of shit GTS 250 in monetary terms.

However for a company like BFG they are charging Top $$ so the cost of warranty is already built into the purchase price with the predicted failure rates based on industry models, but at least you are entittled something comparable.

OP would have probably settled with the above mentioned piece of shit hadn't he made it public and that is VERY SAD for a vendor to make it right everytime they get a wrist slap because it wastes the users time and shipping costs.

By that only op should be entittled to a GTX 260 or GTX275 for the troubles caused otherwise if there wasn't any punitive damage BFG would be shipping GTS 250 to anyone and i'm sure not 100% of users are going to come and expose it.

It doesn't make a lot of sense paying $50-75 more to some company for lifetime warranty which in turn they give you a $50-75 video card down the road because you have lost the interest acrued during all that time and have basically given away free money. As you could of replaced yourself the vide card easily by purchasing a new one from newegg.

So is a big no no for me giving free money because i will always want something in return.

If i ever buy one of these lifetime warranty cards by god it will be the only one i will ever buy because i will send it in everytime it fails. :)

I sent in my 8800 Ultra for RMA and it seems like I am getting a GTS250 512MB in return. I was expecting something equal or better for what I shipped in. Also consider how much I payed for the card :X.

Why would they send me a card that isn't as good as the one I sent in?

Dude, a GTS250 is a 9800GTX+ with a die shrink and it runs OpenGL 3.0.

Yeah, spec for spec it's better than the 8800Ultra by a good amount and takes way less power to run.

A lot of you guys don't know what you're talking about and have entitlement disease. A gts 250 whether it be 512mb or 1gb is going to perform identical or edge out an 8800 ultra. It's the same g92 in the 9800gtx+ which is better than the g80 gpu. The g80 gpu is old and out dated. If a card dies the manufacturer will give you an equal or maybe slightly better performing card if the same model is not in stock. An 8800 ultra is worth turd now on the used front, and price is not taken into consideration for replacements anyway. Hell I spent more at the grocery store yesterday than a 8800 ultra is sold as used on ebay.

Captain Picard already touched on this, but you guys seem to not get it. The only thing I disagree with is he says, "a 1gb model would have been fair. " Either the 512mb or 1gb will still be on par or slightly better in some games so they just go by stock starting with what's equal and work their way up depending on what's in stock or not. So obviously the 512mb was in stock so the 1gb model is irrelevant.

You obviously ignored my post and didn't read the OP's post.

We all know a gts250 is slightly faster in gaming... until AA/AF is turned up, which the OP wants to be able to do.

Then the extra memory and 384 (vs 256 for the GTS250) bit memory bus of the 8800 Ultra makes it faster in higher AA/AF levels.

Nope still wrong. Both your name and the op's last name must be Weinstein in real life.

Nope, it's Shaw.

And prove it. Because I already know memory bus affects games by quite a bit, so...

Prove your point (whatever it is).

ok after watching everyone go back and forth, trying to compare 9800GT/GTX to 8800U and insisting its the same thing as the 250 GTS (which it IS NOT, so what that its G92 as well), and because apparently nobody else is capable of using THG's charts (yet linking THG articles is apparently no problem)

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/...compare,1450.html?prod[2678]=on&prod[2696]=on

that reads as comparable to me, I'm sure some little 15 year old is going to whine that theres a 2-4 FPS variance in the 8800U's favor on some title, theres just as many 5-20 FPS variances in the GTS' favor on some other title, and in no case does this FPS variance make one card more playable than the other, both are either unusable (15-20 FPS) or easily playable (30-40 or higher FPS), with the two exceptions being Far Cry 2 and Endwar, both in the GTS 250's favor, by about 1 FPS (so I really doubt it'll matter to be quite honest)

Woah... that's awesome!

I think the shipping cost more than the "upgrade" is worth. I would just keep it as a new 250 sells for more than 8800Ultra.

My last name is Shaw.

For that matter, my first name is Jeremy.

Ignorance is bliss. Must be nice to not know certain things and just assume they are how you think they should be whether they are correct or not.

I don't have to assume. Based on your previous post, that's an insult.

There are too many people with the name, 'Weinstein,' for me to bother looking up.

Nope still wrong. Both your name and the op's last name must be Weinstein in real life.

How did your two families dodge "it" please let me know in pm if you must.

With the last name I mentioned you must have I expected you to make the connection. If not that's fine someone else will.

Ultra is still a great card.

I run mine usually at 702/1734/1151 and besides Crysis it handles every other game at 1920x1200 maxed no problem. Speaking of Crysis, my Ultra at those overclocks can manage to push all high at 1920x1200 around 25 average.

WTF is that supposed to mean?

You weren't around for the HD 4850 overheating threads were you?
