BF3 Multi-Player Amazing

It has been a while since I have played an FPS. I have no clue what I am doing in this. I have been trying to just follow others around. Where can I find a guide how to play BF3? Are there instructions on what to do?

I think I have 1 kill so far, there is a bit of a learning curve, the hardest part is friend/foe differentiation. By the time I realize the guy is opfor, I am respawning.

A lot of the learning curve is just understanding the map layout, and how to use the HUD for objectives and teammate/enemy locations.

I've been going assault and trying to be an effective medic until I get a feel for the map layouts, that way I can at least help my team while I'm sucking :D

Sadly, BF3 is making me realize why I don't play FPS's that often anymore. Not being younger and having my skill deteriorate with age, I'm getting fed up with my .5 kdr placing in the top 5 on most Conquest servers (I enjoy the 64 player servers). The word objective seems to be a mystery to most players, and it feels like I'm always facing my opponent 1 vs 5 while I have 4 other teammates with their back to the enemy, oblivious to why there are shots being fired.

Yeah, I'm 48 and have some of the same issues but give yourself some time, I started the beta and had a kdr of .2 and finished with about 1.2 (not great but considering how many times I went 1:12 due to lag I'm glad it's that high.)

Yeah, learning the map, and finding some good low ping servers for you will go a long way toward improving your gameplay and as Hailwood points out, drop medkits and ammo for some extra points, especially in chokepoints.

Crazy good game. My best advice is play on a "hardcore" servers only. Hardcore is usually 1 hit to a vital spot and you get a kill. Nothing like putting 2 rounds center mass to the enemy with a sniper rifle and you die because he put 8 in you with a crappy AK7. Otherwise it's an awsome realistic FPS shooter. I have to agree when your over 40 it can be a bit hard to get used to but give it some time. As many stated before me, learning the maps is key.

An earthquake in real life happened while playing the game :D I was in a tank and there were explosions all around and my chair started shaking. Only a 3.6 magnitude though. I kept on playing through of course.

the gameplay really reminds me of watching 6 year olds play soccer....everyone just cluster fucks the ball and doesn't really play the game.

I have yet to see a medic revive someone, I have yet to see anyone actually play together.. it really is so dumbed down and really favors those who can play the game the most because the unlocks really can make you a better player without really gaining any skill.

And aspects like the commander stuff missing is a huge turn off.. I want someone to send a UAV out so I can see what is coming while I attempt to do something.

Relax, its still the first few days. Everyone is still getting the hang of things. People are still learning the maps, configs, etc.

The campaign is damn amazing, the cut scenes EVERYTHING from sounds to graphics. To get full ear on the sounds and hear how good it sounds, get a pair of heaphones and you'll feel like you're in the damn GAME!

Seriously, Hardcore is the only way to play this game imo. It plays so perfect, and encourages more teamplay because of no health/armor regen and 3d spotting.

I've seen a lot of people who WERE CoD players picking up this game. That is *GOOD* in my eyes. Be open to these new players. Be willing to help out.

Really enjoying the game so far, considering recent disappointment in a lot of PC releases (*cough* rage *cough*).

Its sort of like playing a tighter sharper BF2 and I loved BF2. :D (still not a big fan of Rush as a game mode though, conquest all the way)

WOW .......................................

The sounds .......... WOW ..............................

Yup, that combined with the graphical effects that make you really feel like you're getting bombarded from all directions makes this game great.

Anyone having bf3 dreams yet?

I had a few hours to play last night and while I love the game a few points, first some maps have to many vehicles and respawn them to fast as well. To often players are basically forced to constantly choose to be engineer class just to be able to deal with them all (and infantry, unlike the vehicles, have limited ammo.)

The stationary anti-tank rockets on a couple of the maps are a nice touch but they should be movable since always being in the same spot anyone heading for them is an easy target.

I like battlelog, but the filtering does not work 100% of the time and I wish there was a way to hide servers so when your trying to find a server that's good for you that you could hide those you've tried and found were to laggy.

Is there a reason the ping isn't showing for the servers? I've saw someone say something about opening up a port but they never said which. If no one here knows I guess I could check the battlelog forums but I'll have to wait until I'm home to do that. :(

Gah, The menu/hud isn't working in NV Surround. You guys talking like this are going to make me resort to a single monitor to get some game time in!

Yep. I'm on 1920x1080 until they can fix the team-mates nametag issue too. It's unplayable when you can't see who to shoot at.

Anyone having bf3 dreams yet?

Not that I can remember but I've been playing a hell of a lot for three days now and last night went to sleep and woke up with BF3 images swirling around in my brain.

That's what I hate about the uniforms. Everyone looks the same.

In BF1942, each side had different uniforms and you could easily tell who was friendly or foe.

I'll also admit I absolutely blow goats at this game. I'm really good at traditional FPS's, but my problem is being able to even spot the enemy. With so much terrain detail and places to hide, I find myself just getting shot in the back constantly. What few kills I get are on equally unsuspecting players. I have a feeling I need to completely redefine how I approach FPS to play a game like this.

I've recently been getting more successful playing the Assault class, since it gives me the ammo resources to use my typical run n gun strategy.

Playing in a squad is SO much more fun. Played a good 2.5 hours last night with a bunch of guys from my old WoW clan, and was consistently in the top 5 spots for scoring, and was the MVP on a number of games. Voice communication + having people at your back really adds to the experience.

I will echo that a lot of people have no idea what they are doing right now, but that's probably because it's a new game and has attracted a bit of a newer audience. Give them some time. I play medic, and I promise I do through out kits and revive :)

Speaking of squads-- I hate not being able to join the squad that my buddy is in. As far as it seems to me, if you leave a squad and try to rejoin one, it just places you in the squad that is least full.

No, you need to leave the current squad---choose an empty one, and click "Join." (It's a button underneath the squad choice menu, it's very obscure) If it is indeed empty, you need to wait until your buddy joins that squad for it to activate and allow you in.

what the fuck with all the rubberbanding last night. every frickin server was full of ppl screaming lag.

Runs very well on my sig system @ 1920X1080.
Besides the server issues with PB, it was a good experience last night. Looking forward tot trying SP, though I am beginning to hate battlelog. I went to an error splash screen at least every 3 clicks.

Hmmm... it must be REALLY obscure because all I saw last night was "Find a Squad". I'll look again tonight, thanks for the tip!

This game has been awesome so far. Really loving the maps.

Playing in a squad is so much better, I was playing with some friends and my K/D Ratio was much better. (I also unlocked a scope which helped a ton).

I've definitely seen some server issues, and I absolutely hate the Battlelog Browser but hopefully that can be patched.

Having competant folks on a squad to fill different, complementary roles does make such a huge difference.

Honestly, just having someone to watch the other squad members backs to make sure that they don't get outflanked seems to reduce the number of times I get randomly shot/stabbed in the back.

Is there any way to get the little arrow icons on players heads to appear larger besides lowering the screen resolution?

This game is incredible! It actually feels like a true PC game, not a console port. So refreshing. I'm getting my butt whooped online, but it's still a lot of fun. Basically just playing an engineer and repairing vehicles to rack up the XP for now.

Anyone else get random Server Disconnects last night? It seemed like they were having some network issues.

You actually need to somewhat unfocus your eyes, rather than having laser focus on a spot, like say Q3. Rather than intensely focusing on the few areas you know people can come from, you need to have general visibility everywhere on your screen, to be able to snap to it. Or at least thats what I have to do on my 30", I can't take it all in otherwise.

I feel like I'm the only Medic that revives on servers I play on. More points for me! Although it's a pain that noone else does. When I'm not a Medic/Assualt and I see one die, I usually grab their kit, Defib and right away drop a Medkit. I drop them everywhere. Some servers feel like BF in the team play aspect (engi's actually repairing, support dropping kits, assault defibing) but some just feel like I'm back playing CoD4.

What's really annoying is when over half your team is Support but there is not one Resupply box on the floor...............

Turn all the graphics to LOW so that terrain details and effects aren't so distracting. Also...set MSAA to 4x so that enemies aren't completely lost in a sea of jaggies. This can help beginners out until they know the maps, choke points, and lanes of fire better. Once you know where your enemies are going to and coming from, then max your graphics and enjoy the eye candy like the game intended.

This is what I do. I find it really distracting with all the eyecandy.
