I was reading a Kotaku article earlier and got me thinking about that new console buzz. When you first power up and (most likely) its boot up sequence pops on the screen for the first time.....you finally have this new system you've been reading about for ages in your own home! Awesome feeling.

So which new box did you think had the best sequence? I guess it depends at which point you joined the console gaming fold, shocks me how many ppl joined at PS1 stage...makes me feel old.....

Anyways...for me the number one has gotta be the PAL Mega CD:

that's nostalgia for me right there......that tune reminds me of some good times of my yester year Sega fanboy youth. Powering up my Japanese launch Dreamcast for the first time and actually playing the arcade version of Sega Rally 2 in my bedroom was fuckin fantastic too. Gamecube's stands out for being funky. I know the SNES never had an intro but special mention has to go out to the the Capcom jingle at the start of Street Fighter 2 - World Warrior:

Followed by the iconic SF2 tune.

Ahh nostalgia....watching that first video really makes me wanna go hunt down a Megadrive/Mega CD 1 combo and Sonic CD.......

NES didn't even have a boot sequence (at least if you popped the cassette in first) so I would have to go with PS1 and then the GameCube.

Ima go with the PS1. Something about the startup sound still gets me excited. I started out with a 2600 but the PS1 was the first massive upgrade system i got as a teenager, so its most engrained in my mind i supposed.

PS1. It just sounded magical. I still get that happy feeling when I put a PS1 disk in the PS3 and it plays that happy sound :D You should do a poll!

The PS1 startup reminds me of Resi 2, that was the game that made me buy the console after the Saturn wasn't gonna get it. I can see the intro right now lol

Man, the Sega CD boot up was so awesome, with that sweet music and the planet in the background.

And yes, the PS1 boot jingle was legendary as well.

Sure you can, just edit the original post click the checkbox for "add a poll" save and it will take you to the poll options :D (Though I think we already know who would win!)

Only lets me do it if creating a new thread not editing original post :(

I think your right though, it seems the PS1 has the most nostalgic win for most....so far.....

Yer the PS1 for me with the sound going through my massive Dolby Surround Stack System lol, the ps1 startup had a real sense of powerful technology lol. Switching it on late at night in the dark blinded the shit out of me with the white background.

I still have my Genesis/Sega CD in their boxes tucked away in my closet, and a copy of Sonic CD. Wonder if it still works?

Try it!

The Eur/Japanese Mega CD had better music than the Sega CD tho :p

I believe, from the surfing today whilst bored, that there was a Wondermega (Megadrive/Mega CD all in one) in Japan that had the same music and so did the American version called the JVC X-Eye. It never came out on Europe so that's a console I never knew existed before today! A quick spy on eBay shows me they fetch a pretty penny too so must have been pretty rare.

My first console was a 2600 followed by an NES and then a Genesis, SNES, PS1 etc.

I vote PS1.

I like the SegaCD v2 startup but I spent more time with the original Playstation and I liked how its bootup sound was very full and deep sounding.

I would have to say the NES when you didnt insert the cartridge correctly, then you would have to use that awesome blow the cartridge trick.

I like the Dreamcast sequence. The 360 sound at the end of the startup is awesome though.

Ahh...and then the square enix logo that followed when playing FF7. :D
Squaresoft, not Square Enix.

PS1. I miss that console - never heard the happy jingle, mainly because I'm deaf.

PS2 for the second place, naturally.

Woah,. I forgot about that one, but that totally brings nostalgia. I never had that many PS1 games, but I totally recall that, followed by NHL99. That was the game I used to play the most with my dad. Fun times. He was more obsessed then I was, he made sure all the players were in the proper teams to match the real NHL.

I'd have to say though, my most memorable is the Nintendo "bling". So simple, yet it brings back so much memory.

Not to mention Super Mario World intro. Ahhh, fun times.

Gamecube! Very mischievous.

Edit: Close runner up, original NES which included start up sequence where you must blow into the cartridge 3 times.

Though I never owned a PS1, I actually like the PS1 boot-up.

Gamecube comes close second because of an option for alternative sounds (kid's noise for two players and ninja for four players; forget the code refresh my memory?)

Segas start up screens are definitely better than all the others it seems.. With the exception of Gamecube I don't think anything holds a candle to them.

The music is what does it for me. It's saying, "This machine is really powerful and you are about to play some great shit."

I can remember when Blockbuster rented out consoles, and a long time ago we couldn't afford game consoles so we rented a Playstation and firing that thing up and playing the demo to Metal Gear Solid for the first time. Epic experience.
