Battlefield: Hardline

Well dice wants to assure us that everything will be a ok.

note i bolded several years because that is a load of shit.
they probably started developing this game close to the release of bf4.

it wouldn't have really been possible for them to have started working on it near the BF4 release, just not enough time to get it into the state it is now with all the actors and motion capture and facial capture that was needed to be done just for the video we saw let alone the fact that the leaked video was an old video which means development had to start long before that.

most likely pre production and concept ideas were started around the time Deadspace 3 was finished and then they got under way on the writing and such for the SP shortly after.

but that doesnt mean they wouldnt have had closed meetings before then for the future things they wanted to work on.

Deadspace 3 came out in feb. 2013 which leaves them a perfect dev. window to be at the stage they are now.

I would have been more excited for a 2142 remake. I will just pass on this unless the game ends up being decent.

He has a point...they shouldn't have strapped the Battlefield name to this game. Although, it looks like it's going to be a lot more "Battlefield" than this type of game probably should be...

i refer to my poker table as a 'battlefield'. the term is ambiguous and the name branding is clearly becoming ambiguous. which i'm fine with, i don't care what they call it.

Despite all the trash talking, I'll still probably buy Battlefield: Hardline and be disappointed, that's pretty much how games have been going these last two years. But who knows, maybe it will be a special gem. Sims 4 though, maybe that will re-boot my trust in the gaming industry.

I haven't enjoyed a Battlefield game since '42 but this game doesn't look terrible. But I said that about every iteration after '42 as well...

you didn't have fun with BF2 or 2142? man i thought they were an improvement on 1942 in every way.

It is a single player game, slapped with some multiplayer, to keep up with the COD franchise.

It reminds me of a first person GTA V. Which in itself is fun open world with good multiplayer. (havent played in in months tho, dont have my ps3 hooked up)

I doubt the levels will be any bigger than BF4 levels. This isn't going to be open world. If it was, it'd be cool. But I do think they should have gone SP + minimal MP. Co-op and asymmetrical PvP. Keep it smaller. Its hard to do MP if both cops and robbers aren't on equal footing. Heck, maybe try out 12v12v12? Two gangs, and the police? Without the random spawning of the squad-dm of BF4.

Essentially, do something new.

You are the bane of all that is wrong with the gaming industry today.

...maybe that will re-boot my trust in the gaming industry.
If you want a gaming industry reboot, stop incentivizing them to churn out half-cocked, rehashed, poorly-written betas.

what does battlefield have to do with cops and criminals??? lame. the name branding here is not "ambiguous"; it is being used to bring in an already established fan base... to think other wise redefines the meaning of naive.

I think fixing BF4 before announcing a new game and micro-transactions for the existing broken one would have gone a long way.

Reading comprehension goes a long way. They didnt announce a new game. A video was leaked.

It was going to be announced at E3, I don't think BF4 is going to be any less broken in a couple of weeks.

Am I the only one who's slightly excited for this game?

The past two battlefields (3 and 4) were disappointing to me (I thought from BF: BC2 the next two were a step back in terms of detail and just "fun").

I hope this is something different , we need more mp games that are different then just BF/COD, a good game like Payday but on a larger scale with vehicles and things might be interesting.

I think it's way too early to judge the game yet, let alone to compare it to the main "Battlefield" games, it's obvious this is an offshoot and isn't even made by the main Battlefield guys nor will they stop making the "big" battlefield games, this is just something different that is using teh name to attract the attention/fanbase of an already established series.

CTE is making serious progress. They might well have it much more playable in a few weeks. My team Armored Fist had more people playing CTE last weekend than we have had since bf4 first came out. It isn't "fixed" yet but it is a hell of a lot more fun than it was. Plus, they put out a patch about every week now. The LA team is MUCH more proactive than the shitheads who were previously in charge of fixing the game.

i mean it could be a perfectly fine game... but man they're milking that battlefield name til its tits fall off

I was hugely into piloting in '42. I just about played through every season of CAL and TWL during the games tenure. I never liked the BF series as a shooter personally, and after '42 the air combat was unappealing to me.

yeah after 42 the flying was pretty meh.

i mean the helicopters were fun in vietnam, but the jets in vietnam were so floaty feeling it just wasn't as good as it was with the prop planes in 42.

even bf2 wasnt that good with the jets but it was a huge improvement over vietnam and then we get these console port games like bc/bc2 which didnt even bother to include them or BF3 and BF4 where the jets are like lemmings that are useless compared to how they once were.

This is why BF1942 has had the best flying in any BF game:

It wasn't about gadgets, it wasn't about lock-ons, it wasn't about cheap tactics -- it was all about maneuvering! Dog fighting was the best in 1942 because you could focus on pilot vs. pilot fighting without the 50,000 Stinger missiles coming at you. Getting land kills was all about lining up, diving down, and releasing a bomb at the right time to kill that tank. And, you could motherfucking wing walk!

This would honestly be boring. Unless the game is realistic like SWAT (which it won't be) there will be zero differences from a military perspective if all you do is shoot people as soon as you see them. It will essentially be Battlefield without vehicles. Even SWAT, while keeping a realistic perspective/gameplay, still had to exaggerate and portray missions in which you go up against multiple gunmen. Which essentially never happens in the western world.

You had the first three R6 games which were based on CQC anti terrorist type stuff and then GR which was outdoor infantry combat. After those titles the series went downhill. R6 Vegas/GR Future soldier are essentially the same as Battlefield, minus the vehicles and different perspectives. So I guess you can say Ubisoft did already do this. :p

BTW, Tom Clancy was only associated with Rainbow 6, after which he said he didn't care about video games and sold his name to Ubisoft.

I'm a long time R6 fan and the game went to trash after Rogue Spear. R6 series is nothing like Battlefield whatsoever. BF series actually have objectives and many types of game play. R6 is a pure shooter that's team oriented because when you're dead, you're dead... No revives.

I heard Ubisoft was going to make a new R6 to pay tribute to Clancy, however I'm sure they will fuck it all up like the rest of their new stuff.

When Redstorm was the studio making Rainbow Six until Ubisoft got their hands on them, the games were great.

I saw this coming after BF3 came out. EA releases are going to be repetitive dog shit that will be no different to Activisions COD's.

guess it is going to come down to how the objectives turn out, like points that need defending/interacting with like hostages, vaults, loot ect and how that plays out in an actual gameplay setting.

it could still be fun. but it does need a lot of polish still.

My main concern is it looks so similar to the military themed games. Not very imaginative, IMO.

Side note, it seems like they are using some American civilian market weapons opposed to military ones. PTR-91 instead of a G3 (semi auto clone) and a Saiga 308 (might be the Americanized "sporter" version?).

Video down, can't find it anywhere now.

The main thing this game needs is a reason/gameplay that focuses people to work TOGETHER.

The chaotic "lonewolf" style in BF3/4 doesn't lend itself well to a game about this.

They need to find ways to bring players together through gameplay elements that rewards them for sticking together and using taictics.

Another video of leaked beta footage:

Undoubtedly a quick re-skin and cash-in on BF4, and honestly something I would expect the community to whip up with as much polish in the same amount of time if EA/DICE weren't so fanatically obsessed with milking every last cent from their customer base. Well on their way to completely torpedoing the BF brand.

The concept of teamwork runs contrary to DICE's current ethos of accommodating the lone wolf mentality. They have removed all mechanics which previously punished anyone who didn't work as a team because of their desire to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, not because it enhanced gameplay but in order to generate maximum profit.
