Battlefield 3 Patch Coming Tuesday

My work firewall is blocking the link, I'll have to check it later.

Will this fix single player? The game crashes each time I try to launch it.
I know single player on this game is supposed to suck, but I'd like to at least try it :p

Here you go:

DICE will release a massive update for the PC version of Battlefield 3 on December 6.

This, the developer explains, will coincide with a separate update it will undertake with the game's servers, which will bring down the service "for some hours" from around 8AM UK Time.
It'll be a whopping 2GB (because it includes data for the Back to Karkand DLC Pack) and will be mandatory due to its incompatibility with older clients.

Here's the full change log:

Bugfixes

Fixed a problem with spawn timer now showing blue border on startup and lost spawn point

Fixed a problem where player who joined queuing on End of round got spawn screen stuck on screen, but unable to do anything with it untill next round loaded

Fixed stat references on several dogtags

Fixed for surveillance ribbon not counting TUGS

Fixed a missing combat area lines on the minimap for Grand Bazaar conquest small

Moved a tank spawn in US base on Caspian Border so it would not be destroyed by a falling tree

Fixed a problem with the Kill camera acting up when suiciding from parachute

Fixed air radar was showing to much. now lasertagged, heatsignature above threshold, enemy missiles and capture points are only visible on air radar

Balance Tweaks

Fixed several weapons so they are properly suppressed and hide the player on the minimap when fired.

Tweaked Tactical Light so it is not as blinding over longer ranges.

Tweaked the IRNV scope so it is limited to usage only at close range.

Reduced heat masking effectiveness of Spec Ops Camo.

Fixed a bug where Ammo spec would give additional 40mm grenades instead of Frag spec.

Increased the number of additional 40mm grenades from Frag spec.

Fixed so AT mines only live for 20 seconds after a player dies to prevent infinite mines. (We want to make a different fix in the future, it's in JIRA).

Increased the Time to Live on sniper caliber rounds to allow extreme distance shots.

Fixed several weapon descriptions, calibers, and fire rates. The weapons themselves have not changed.

Fixed so the M9 and MP443 pistol can be equipped by the opposing faction when it is unlocked at 100 kills.

Fixed Laser Guided Missiles missing their targets if the target is moving too fast.

Reduced the effectiveness of Stealth on Air Vehicles.

Reduced the effectiveness of Beam Scanning for Jets.

Reduced the damage done to Armored Vehicles and Infantry from AA guns.

Increased the damage RPGs and Tank shells do to AA vehicles.

Slightly decreased the accuracy for all weapons on fully automatic, burst fire is now preferable at mid to long range.

Increased the effective accuracy of long bursts for LMGs when using a bipod.

Slightly increased the range of the 44magnum bullets.

Increased the close range damage of 4.6x30mm and 5.7x28mm bullets.

Increased the reload time of the Mortar from 3.5sec to 4.8sec and increased the time it takes before a shell hits the ground.

Reduced the aimed accuracy bonus given by a Suppressor for the MP7, P90, PP2000, PP-19, and UMP45.

Increased the range and FOV for designating targets with the SOFLAM and vehicle Laser Designators.

Decreased the effectiveness of 12g FRAG ammo when equipped on semi-automatic and automatic shotguns.

Slightly Increased the power of Fighter Jet Cannons against all vehicle targets, especially Helicopters.

Decreased the power of Miniguns against Jets and Helicopters.

Increased the power of Stingers against Jets.

Flares reload times for Jets and Helicopter Gunners have been increased.

Tweaked the AN94 so its burst fire better conveys the real world advantage offered by this weapon.

Added Single Shot to the AN94 as an available fire mode.

Slightly increased the recoil on the M416 and removed the Burst Fire mode (this weapon incorrectly had burst fire, which was not authentic).

Tweaked the spawns for TDM on Kharg Island, Grand Bazaar, Caspian Border, Seine Crossing, Operation Firestorm, Damavand Peak and Noshahar Canals

Moved a tank spawn in US base on Caspian Border so it would not be destroyed by a falling tree

Tweaked the Gas station Capture area on Conquest on Caspian Border

Tweaked the max vehicle height on Noshahar Canals

Min player requirements

Also, it will once again be possible to reduce the number of players required to start a round to 1 both in ranked and unranked mode. We changed it back after getting a lot of negative feedback from both individuals and the RSP companies.

Our plan is to introduce a warm-up mode, where players can move about and play the game, but with scoring disabled; then, when the number of players goes above the threshold -- that's when the real round starts.

At least they are working on the game. Unlike other, very popular, fps games.....

Anyway, fun game. Not serious about it. Just fun blowing shit up thanks.

The flashlight and irnv is dumb though. Hope that changes.

People really are split it seems on Battlelog. Some people hate it, some people love it. I'm in the love it field. I can browse for servers while talking to people and working on other stuff and then find a server and load it while doing other stuff.

I like it, personally.

True, but the complaints with the taclight and IRNV were almost immediately apparent, and they released at LEAST one other patch where those issues were known but not addressed.

I agree that not all of the issues could have been fixed immediately, but some of them really should have been a patch or two ago. I doubt most balance issues are much more than tweaking some variables in the code somewhere.

Wow if its that easy, why don't you offer your expertise? Because it seems you know how to develop AAA pc games. I guess they could use all the help they can get right?

Damn, DICE's devs must suck. All they had to do was change a few variables and the game is teh balanced!

Dammit, did not know they first quote was stuck in memory. RE: Crest

I agree. I like Battlelog as well. It's like a souped up version of Gamespy from back in the days. I do think that people with single monitors will not like it as much as people with dual+ monitors that they can just leave the Battlelog on the secondary screen.

The only thing that really annoyed me are the shotgun frag rounds. I got sniped with it well beyond the average shotgun range. Recently, I've been seeing more and more people using the UAV aerial drone other than its real purpose. One server, there were too many drones to count flying around really fast changing altitude and slamming into people. It's like shooting down a pesky fly.

Being able to be killed by the MAV is ridiculous...a flying toaster oven shouldn't be able to kill me. And I don't think that it should have quite that speed, either.

My system runs it fine. My brother's can't join multiplayer, he gets the dreaded "You have been disconnected from EA Online.".

He's running FIOS with a wireless router. I may have to go to his house and mess around with port forwarding or something. I did work fine though, and there are tons of people bitching about EA breaking something with the last patch that is causing it.

Don't be a douchebag. Do you really think changing the brightness or range of a light or scope is more than a few variables?

With balance you have to do a lot of playtesting to figure out the best. Obviously they did not because the IRNV was completely OP, and the taclight was a concern in the beta, yet they still did not address it until now.

I'm glad they moved servers back to 1 player. My 16 man SQDM was basically DOA after the change. It was so bad, I quit playing the game. Went to Skyrim, got Batman too and SS3. So they can take their sweet time fixing all the dumb shit.

I won't be playing for a few more weeks at best, SW drops on the 20th.

I'm just pointing out the silliness of your statement with a response to match. Unfortunately in every thread about gaming patches there is some expert that talks as if its just some variables to change to fix the game's balance. But that person never lists any games they coded to give us a source of this insight. OR any project management experience that shows their skill at dedicating resources for game design, development, and testing. We get it, you are not happy at <game issue that affects you> but to simplify the issue as just a few variables.. Cmon now...

So try not call people names when they disagree with you. I hear you can get banned for that sort of thing.

It most likely is a few svars and cvars....

And boom...INVR dismantled.

There is some justice in the world. So tired of seeing people who just killed me with that scope on a day map. Happened so often last night lol. I was talking smack saying enjoy your last night with your precious lol.

Yay!

I would love if [H] can do a Q&A with DICE like they did with AMD on matters like this. I think the information could be quite useful and entertaining for the readers here. What do you think?

Battlelog is awful. I would have an easier time bartering with a prostitute for a 10 dollar hand job than trying to attempt to explain how to join a party/enable voice chat/join a game.

I love how the ESN Sonar voice chat never actually exits when you close out of battlelog and your game. Stupid design.

I agree but good luck. Dice won't really talk to anyone but their ranked providers. Maybe kyle can get something to happen.

its like....4 mouse clicks...

sometimes, I have to refresh battlelog to get my party to show up, but I leave it open ALOT, sometimes all day

I'd rather have VOIP ingame for team/squads, but it does work pretty well for what it is. and I have very few issues finding and connecting games. its miles ahead of BC2 whose server browser wasnt as good as at launch battlelog till either the april or may patch

Not really, you have to launch origin and log in. Then you start BF3, which starts a web browser, then you start party chat which starts ESN. Then you find a server and join that. When you are done you have to exit out of the web browser, the ESN server and Origin.

Think about that from design standpoint. What a fucking nightmare.
