Think I'll buy the digital copy seeing as I dont even have an optical drive on my rig anymore hah.

Not a problem You can just register the retail CD-Key on Origin and download it from there.

Bottom line: Buy whatever version is cheaper.

No kidding, its bad enough now being sniped out of a helicopter when your waiting for the engines to get up to speed and pick you up off the ground, imagine adding even more predictable motions to it.

Wouldn't matter, it's way easier to shoot a perfectly still pilot out of the cockpit rather than trying to snipe a awkwardly animating enter/exit vehicle motion.

Either way you should be clearing enemies away from vehicle spawn areas, for the most part in BC2 if they can snipe in to your spawn your team is doing something very wrong.

Easy solution: make the player invulnerable to attacks during the animations.

I'm not saying it's a good solution, I'm saying it would've been an easy solution.

Unless there was some sort of immunity during the animation until you're in/out of the vehicle.

What he said ^^

As realism compromises go, I think I'd rather just have people "teleport" into vehicles rather than have a realistic looking enter animation during which they are very unrealistically invincible.

Isn't this kinda like saying you shouldn't be able to damage the planter, while planting in CS?

I realize this is a game, but I feel you should be vulnerable when doing things like entering/exiting vehicles, climbing ladders and interacting with the map.

I agree. I'd rather see enter/exit animations and people vulnerable during that time, it's the most realistic possibility. People in vehicles already have a great advantage, seems every other map my team is getting raped by helicopters on atacama, and unfortunately I don't know how to fly nor do I like it.

I am in the minority here also...I would love for the game to have little realistic things like that..

It won't make me not buy it...or anything like that since I have bought every BF game there is. But, I can't wait to find a realistic game that doesn't have horrible controls...Arma 2 is the closest, but the whole AI thing is stupid. :)

Did anyone notice the "My life" video when the commander is giving the squad a new objective, he says "spin some meat market"? I hope "You spin me round" is going to be playing in that market!

I just said that this is irrelevant, if a sniper can snipe the cockpit it doesn't matter that you can enter the vehicle safely or not, anyone with even an ounce of sense is going to wait for the clean shot where the target is stationary

The issue isn't getting in/out of vehicles, the issue is that there's snipers and enemies which can see into the spawn point putting you at risk in the first place, if anything needs to be fixed it's this.

Personally I think animations are fine especially if they're fast, it lends something to more realistic shooters like this, I quite liked them in Planetside where you'd get a 3rd person animation shot of you getting in/out, it worked well.

I'd like to see a recon snipe a tank driver ;)

With the size of BF3 maps are you really worried that some jerk recon is going to spawn kill you in an helicopter? And that is assuming DICE allows a clean line of sight to the vehicle from outside the base.

Recon just drop mortars with +explosive damage onto tanks, if you're lucky 2-3 of the first mortars get direct hits and the tank dies, since most people camp in tanks it's actually pretty trivial to do.

BC2 has numerous spots where snipers can easily see into the bases, in fact a great deal of the maps in rush, the attacking base's UAV station is visible from the battlefield meaning snipers can actually take out the UAV pilot.

Sure tanks (and APCs) are safe to sniper bullets, but most of the vehicles and gunner positions aren't, all these have snipe-able driver positions:

Quad
Humvee
Vodnik
Cav
Cobra
Truck
Apache
Black Hawk
Havoc
Hind
Jetski
Patrol Boat
BAKHCHA AA (gunner position only)

I'm not worried about being spawn killed by a sniper, it's other people who have made this complaint, more than likely I'll be the person behind the scope, I was a massive fan of sniping in BF1942 and BF2, less so with BC2 due to smaller maps and more known attack spots, but BF3 I'll be all over the sniper rifles, bolt action death from miles away, bunny hopping on the runway while camping for planes isn't going to save you from me :)

BF3 Limited Edition is available for preorder on Impulse. Only good news with this is that EA is looking outside of Origin for digital distribution. Still hope for Steam.

Thing is that we shouldn't be as worried about EA not putting Battlefield 3 on Steam as much as Steam allowing Battlefield 3 in its library; as that's really the problem right now.

I hope they go F2P with this game that would rock.

Maybe 5 years from now...

And on that note, how would that be a good thing anyway? F2P just means the game tries to shovel microtransactions at you. These games aren't free out of the goodness of the developers heart.

If Steam gets a cut of every game sold through its service, why would they not want to sell what is going to be one of the highest selling PC games of this year?

It has something to do with some "violations" or some crap like that with EA using Gamespy Arcade for their multiplayer and Valve just wasn't having it. I'm hoping some sense will be knocked into them and they'll allow Battlefield 3 on there...

You do not have to buy anything to play the game though. If you lose interest in the game you can just move onto another F2P game since it costs you nothing.

As much as I would LOVE to have BF3 on Steam, I am in agreement with Steam, Gamespy Arcade sux balls, and I dont want that bull crap installed on my system when I use Steam as my game content manager, friend system as it is! I dont think I should have to open Steam to have it open GA to have it open BF3, doesnt make sense. Either I just open GA to get BF3, or I just open Steam to get BF3, shouldnt have to do one to get one to get one!

OH god no! Do not use any gamespy tech, did they not learn from bf2? That shit still sucks balls even after all the patches. Gamespy needs to die in fire!

Discussion about sniping people out of vehicles above made me wonder - is there any information on the cockpit/canopy glass in BF3? I much preferred the BF2 model where only the Barrett could penetrate the bulletproof glass, compared to the BC2 mechanic where a bb gun can.

Just read that BF3 will have 2 player co-op and MW3 is to have four. I really hope both have four. Has anyone else read or confirmed either of these claims?

Yes, I'd hope that a shotgun slug from across the map can't snipe me out of a helicopter in BF3 like it can in BC2.

hmmm....to me, what would put the finishing touches on what seems to be a great game, is if they.....GOT RID OF SNIPERS.

Given the map features, new details and everything, I think snipers will be much, much less of an issue than in bfbc2. Bigger maps means camping is a lot less viable as a strategy (while in bfbc2 you are basically always within range of either spawn in rush mode). A bigger emphasis on vehicles, ditto (snipers are much more of a problem in nelson bay than in oasis, for example). Add scope reflections, more emphasis on controlling "breathing," stability and etc and I think that we wont have as many "strafing snipers from spawn" problems.

If Snipers were taken out, you would be complaining to get rid of the next thing that killed you the most...

God I hate whiners about snipers..

OMG lets get rid of tanks! They kill people to easy!

Sorry not personally attacking you, just venting in general...

well apparently ingame FXAA is Nvidia's implementation, and I think SRAA could be also.

I didnt even hear that AMD has any plans of SRAA, and Nvidia is pretty deep in it already

was just wondering if any1 knows more on the subject

FXAA and SRAA are vendor independent. Even MLAA, if Nvidia decided to take the effort, would work on both brands. They're post-processing using DX standards, so as long as the card conforms with that it'll work.

what does it mean for FXAA:

~1.3 ms/f for 1080p on Geforce 580

penalty for using it in increased time between rendering 2 subsequent frames?

Just balance the classes and guns snipping half a map away with a shotty was idiotic. The engineer was way overpowered the medic was ridiculous carrying a saw, and the helo was stupid in bfbc2.
