once shows up only on the minimap, the other shows up as a triangle on the player's head.

3d spotting encourages blind spamming at the little icon that shows up when someone is spotted.

Minimap spotting just puts their red dot on the minimap and full map. It gives you a very good general idea of where they are, but you can't blindly fire at them. It's also more challenging as you have to translate their positions on the 2d minimap into the 3d world in your mind. It takes practice to be good at when just glancing at the minimap, but that's a good thing imo.

I am a big fan of spotting. Not sure what "3D" spotting means, but spotting encourages gameplay even without using voicecoms. Also, less game-ruining campers prone at 500 yards between someone else's asscrack.

BC2 is an amazing game. Better graphics, bigger maps, and more vehicles is all I would honestly add to it.

People look at BF2 with ridiculously rose-tinted graphics. For me, that game was nothing but an opportunity to point and laugh as I bombed the shit out of infantry and vehicles in my airplane with impunity, racking up 9:1 KDRs. I imagine that wasn't fun for anyone on the ground.

The funny thing is one of the biggest complaints in BF2 was about the jets. While in BC2 it was no jets. The most popular map in BF2 was Karkand, which is similar in style to most BC2 maps. The most popular map in BC2 is Heavy Metal, which is closer to BF2's map design.

Yeah I honestly don't understand why anyone likes Heavy Metal, aside from helo pilots whose craft is magically immune to bullets. It's one of the most boring maps in the game, in my opinion. Might have been better with 25 vs 25 gameplay, at least.

Sounds like they should have balanced jets instead of removing them.

Also: they should round up all the maps from all their games and release them together. Having like 10 maps per game has always been quite retarded imo--or if they're going to get lazy on designing maps, fucking release an editor and have your community do it for you.

I think we can all agree that BF1942 DC and FH have/had the best MP we'll ever see :)

..

Desert Combat was AMAAZZZIIINNNGGG....

I still remember getting in the helos and hitting the throttle and immediately flipping upside down....I was always like fuck these things, gimmie a jet....awesome mod...just awesome.

OMG I loved the blackhawk in DC. Used to fly that thing like an F16 through those city streets, barely clearing the corners and shit. Ahhhhh good times.

Jesus, more of the same here....always......narcissistic people bitching for no reason about the "gameplay" of an unreleased game based on a few minutes of preview footage....unbelievable...

I mapped my logitech 3d pro in DC and I don't want to brag... but it was pretty much game over if I got the little bird or apache

Clearly judging by every video and screenshot thus far, it is being built to take advantage of the power PCs can bring to the game. The gameplay can only be judged once it is available. Anything else is just much ado about nothing.

So you're saying we can't figure that it will be more like BC2 than BF2 based on a preponderance of game play features being included from BC2, and literally 2 or 3 from BF2?

GTFO. Your comment makes no sense.

+1 Clearly the engine on PC is going to be graphically way more demanding then the console version. To call it a true "console port" is not going to be accurate. I'll bite that removing commander, a feature which would be very hard to use on console, does water it down a bit. But in no way is this a "console port."

How about auto health regeneration?
How about 3d spotting?
How about no ammo magazines?
How about vehicle health regeneration?
How about auto knifing?
How about 4 man squads?
How about squad leader spawning on squad members?
How about no mod tools?
How about no confirmed Commo rose?

The list continues to grow daily, and that's what I can come up with off the top of my head after a long work day. Those are all attributes which are friendly to consoles, and are backsteps from the advanced gameplay of BF2, 2142, and their respective mods. Those features are included in the game, not because they are advancements, but because DICE is considering what will work on both platforms simultaneously. The only known differences between consoles and PC so far are the following:

-Server population limit (in conquest)
-Graphics
(I'll add more if you can think some up)
So far the only difference between BC2 and BF3 in terms of platform differentiation is the graphics... which doesn't mean a damn thing.

Honestly, when the gameplay is going to be very similar to BC2, who gives a shitting fuck about graphics? Gameplay>Graphics

Someone answer this question please: If the only new difference between the two platforms (since BC2) is graphics, how is this NOT a console port?

PS: 5 seconds after posting this I thought of another - How about infinite stamina?

Why do you guys beat off to comma rose so much.

Also there is no auto knifing in BF3.

Because it allows you to communicate with people whom you otherwise could not communicate with. It's omission is another sign of consolitis. If they could implement it 6 years ago, and everyone loved it, then the ONLY REASON TO OMIT IT IS DUE TO CONSOLE SIMPLICITY. This is a console port. Just because they improve the graphics and say that the PC is the lead platform (literally the only two ways they've shown PC to be the lead platform) doesn't mean its actually the lead platform.

And yes, if you are behind someone, you can auto knife them. It is a well established fact.

They should just stop releasing games for PC. They can do nothing right.

Yes, way to be mature and have a reasonable discussion.

Where is the link confirming regen health? I must have missed that announcement.

Google.com

No offense but I am not going to spoon feed you guys evidence. Spend a little time considering the realities of what they are changing and how similar the two games will be.

Feel free to feed me some humble pie by finding a list of differences that proves this is actually not going to be a console port.

Yes, way to be mature and have a reasonable discussion.
.

Swearing and throwing bitter comments at other members isn't quite the way i'd go about making a "reasonable arguement". Perhaps you just need a break from gaming. You seem jaded.

Fact is, this game will receive more attention for the PC than any other popular FPS in the last 5 years (maybe with the exception of the Arma games, but even they have their own problems). Gone are the days of your precious PC exclusive shooters and for good financial reasons.

Was BC2 a bad game? hell no. It rips the hell out of any CoD/CoD clone out there, but the attitude of some PC gamers late has been unbelieveable.

Apparently, a PC game needs to be a masterpiece in order to be fun, otherwise it's shit.

no teamwork, not one thing that will enable teamwork. TDM will be the most played mode and the maps will only get smaller, if someone told me in 2005 that BF3 would have no commo rose, no commander, smaller maps, 3d spotting and vehicle unlocks, i wouldve laughed out loud.

I was accurately characterizing the person's comment as immature. If his only response is to sarcastically propose a ridiculous solution, then its immature and detracts from the argument.

Good financial reasons? Its called selling out to make a buck. Its what I am proposing is bullshit. At least you are willing to characterize the game accurately, and not follow the hype that this is a remotely PC-based game. My main gripe is that they are making this BF3, and not calling it BC3. Why does that matter? Because it officially kills off the spirit of Battlefield games. It eliminates any hope of a proper sequel to BF2.

As a whole I think it was mediocre at best. If you remove the frills (graphics and destruction) it was horribly shitty. No community or core fanbase has really coalesced. In BF2 and 2142, competition was ripe, clans were exclusively formed for the game and they lasted for years. Hell, 2142 had competition clans and an active core community until late 2009.

As an example, BF2 and 2142 had my gaming "squad" playing it exclusively for the better part of 3 years. BC2 had them playing it for about 4 months before they all went off to COD. The horrible lack of teamplay and run-and-gun Bullshit had me fed up after about as much time as well.

Apparently, a PC game needs to be a masterpiece in order to be fun, otherwise it's shit.

There go the immature comments again. I suggest you read the following post to understand where I am coming from.

You do realize that they aren't going to make two completely seperate games and call them both Battlefield 3 right? They are going to have similarities above and beyond the name. No Mod tools btw has to do with $$$, not consoles. They want to sell you DLC. The important factors of what makes a PC game a PC game are there. Graphics, dedicated servers and player count.

I'm also pretty sure BC2 doesn't have jets and the maps are quite a bit smaller. So go ahead and add that to the list of differences as well.

Was reading about the health regeneration, and I don't think it will be as bad as some think. We are not talking CoD-esque where you can regain full health in mere seconds. The regeneration will be either very slow or you will only be able to regenerate to some minimal level (say no regeneration past 50% or so). Maybe the health issue won't be as bad as some are saying.

As far as the 3D spotting, I hope there are server options where that can be disabled. Same for kill cam, there is so much wrong with kill cam...

I was refering mainly to the "GTFO" after a user stated a simple fact: that BF3 will utilize a lot of PC horsepower. We have yet to see much full scale MP footage so it's a lot of speculation at this point.

I'd prefer it to be PC exclusive as much as the next guy on this board, but developing a AAA game these days costs a LOT of money. At the end of the day, they are a capitalist company and need to do what is best for that company. To deny this game is receiving a lot of PC attention is a lie. I do agree that a name change would have been a better choice though.

Matter of opinion. Take away the icing on a cake, and it's going to be a subpar cake. The physics are a massive part of the gameplay experience IMO. Nothing is more satisfying than taking out the entire tower a sniper is resting in. Also, I still game with the same clanmates in BC2 as I did in BF2.

As an example, BF2 and 2142 had my gaming "squad" playing it exclusively for the better part of 3 years. BC2 had them playing it for about 4 months before they all went off to COD. The horrible lack of teamplay and run-and-gun Bullshit had me fed up after about as much time as well.

Switching to a game like Arma2 I can understand, but your friends bailed on BC2 for CoD primarily? The amount of teamwork required to capture or defend dwarfs anything in the CoD franchise. I can't help but feel you had some diminished experiences with BC2.

There go the immature comments again. I suggest you read the following post to understand where I am coming from.

Immature is far from the best choice i'd use. Snarky would be my choice :p but I can admit that. The Pc gaming community has some pretty silly expectations for games these days and although I can see many valid points in your arguement, the times have changed in gaming and we simply will not see the attention we once had on the PC. Yes it sucks, but I still enjoy my PC as a gaming platform as much now as I did 10 years ago.

No, they are making almost the exact same game for the consoles... which totally negates their bullshit assertion that PC is the lead platform. How is PC the lead platform if literally everything but two features are compromised to make it playable for thumb-monkeys?

Also, Graphics, Dedicated servers, and player count were the only notable differences between PC and consoles on BC2... which was a console port. Again, how is this not a console port?

Jets, prone, etc are going to be in the console version as well. I am asking for differences between the console version and PC version that weren't differences in BC2. Window dressings like better graphics don't count.

Higher player count was a difference in BC2
Graphics were better in BC2
Dedicated servers were in BC2.

I'm a little confused as to why these things are inherently bad. Yes, they may have come from consoles, but that shouldn't automatically make them bad

3d Spotting - It hurts camping snipers more than anyone else, and almost everyone hates camping snipers. I'm fine with 3d spotting.

Magazines - Having realistic magazines punishes good players far more than bad ones. I regularly kill 3+ people before I die, so that could easily cause me to run out of ammo. For some scrub with a 0.5 KDR, it means nothing.

Squads - Keeping it to 4 makes sense when you can spawn on any of them. I don't really see how it's much better or worse than a larger squad who can only spawn on one person.

Commo rose - It would be nice if they included it along with the current system in place. Both have their advantages, and PCs certainly have enough buttons to handle both.

Health Regeneration - Similar to magazines, health regen helps good players more than it does bad ones. I'm all for it, as long as it's slow.

Okay well you can keep complaining and getting mad at videogames or learn to accept that things tend to change over time. Do you really think all this bitching will get you anywhere? Or that DICE will scramble to make the PC version an exact clone of BF2?

Not being BF2 isn't an inherently bad thing. Not to mention that game had its huge share of problems which BC2 for the most part rectified.

Being mostly similar =/= console port.

I'm not so sure you know what a "port" is.

Developed for one platform, then adapted to another. Generally speaking a port will include the bare minimum of changes, sometimes as little as removing the controller picture from the control settings, and sometimes as much change as entire game modes.

I disagree on all counts. Prone was left out for "balance" issues in BC2, DICE even said they listened to the community and reintroduced it. Go to the BF3 UK forums and check out some of the petitions (commo rose for instance will be one thing, if included, that is purely a result of community outcry). Simply gobbling up whatever horseshit they produce is what leads to Call of Duty syndrome (yes I just coined that).

Also, I am not sure what BC2 improved on, except graphics and destruction... which when removed would make BC2 a pretty pathetic game.

Being mostly similar =/= console port.

Then how was BC2 a console port? If the differences between the platforms are identical between the two games... then how is one a console port, and the other a PC-to-console port? Hell, I can see more console-inspired features than PC, so if anything this is definitely a console port.

Like I said, the Console version is also called BF3... It's the same game, why wouldn't the consoles have jets? Are you fucking kidding me? It's not like the consoles are getting BC3 and we're getting BF3. As mentioned in a post above mine, none of the things you mentioned scream "console port" not a single one. You're crying about the most retarded shit imaginable.

Just don't buy the game, simple enough.

I'm a little confused as to why these things are inherently bad. Yes, they may have come from consoles, but that shouldn't automatically make them bad

It doesn't make them bad as a rule, but generally speaking it dumbs the game down and shallows the experience, as seen in the difference between BC2 and BF2.

3d Spotting - It hurts camping snipers more than anyone else, and almost everyone hates camping snipers. I'm fine with 3d spotting.

So you don't mind being shot through cover because someone randomly pressed "Q" in your general direction while you were in the open? You ever wonder why sometimes it seems like the whole enemy team is firing at you? 3d spotting allows snipers to be more effective, simply by targeting the lower corner of the triangle you get a headshot. It is the worse gameplay mechanic I've ever seen in an FPS. A vast majority of people in polls vote against it.

Magazines - Having realistic magazines punishes good players far more than bad ones. I regularly kill 3+ people before I die, so that could easily cause me to run out of ammo. For some scrub with a 0.5 KDR, it means nothing.

Exactly, it promotes strategic use of ammo. You have to balance the need for a full magazine vs. the immediate need to shoot or conserve bullets. Its a depth feature which, when removed, dumbs the game down... to console levels.

Squads - Keeping it to 4 makes sense when you can spawn on any of them. I don't really see how it's much better or worse than a larger squad who can only spawn on one person.

Why change it from 6 then? Its for the 24 player cap on consoles. 6 player squads allows up to six friends to join in a squad. If you have 7 people on Teamspeak, then you can split into a 4/3 squad setup and still have two squads capable of teamwork. If you have 5 players you can all be in the same squad. If you have 8, then you have two squads of 4, which is also enough for team play.

With 4 player squads my "clan" always was stuck with 4 people in one squad and one man out. Or 3 and 3, which was less effective than all being together, or 4 and 3. Plus, with 6 player squads the squad as a unit is more powerful, thus encouraging squad play.

Commo rose - It would be nice if they included it along with the current system in place. Both have their advantages, and PCs certainly have enough buttons to handle both.

"Q" had no advantages, it forced you to find a player with a certain attribute, then aim at that player and press "Q". With the commorose you can "call out" a need and wait for someone to respond. It was more effective in every way. "Q" was only to cater to console players with limited buttons and intelligence.

Health Regeneration - Similar to magazines, health regen helps good players more than it does bad ones. I'm all for it, as long as it's slow.

Health regen renders the medic class useless, as seen in BC2. It is a shitty gameplay mechanic (including bloody screen) which is way too reminiscent of COD. If anything they should have made you bleed out unless a medic intervened. Its another console kiddie way of getting around teamwork. Same with their planned vehicle partial health regen.

All of these dumb down the game for the console audience. Further proof that this game is being designed with consoles in mind, while throwing a few bones to the PCs to keep many of us from being disappointed.

Wow, I know its late, but read a bit more thoroughly. First of all, I never even mentioned anything that would lead a sane person to twist my words to say that the consoles wouldn't get jets. WTF are you reading?

This is *supposed* to be a PC-based game with consoles getting it as well. That would be what "PC is the lead platform" means. This is literally BC2 with Jets, prone, and 64 players in conquest. The changes in BATTLEFIELD 3 should be compared to its predecessor, BATTLEFIELD 2.

Dumbing shit down like no magazines, Unlimited running and jumping, health regen, no commander, are all BC2 qualities. BC2 WAS A CONSOLE PORT. WHAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND???

I am guessing you've never played the earlier real battlefield games on which this game is supposed to be based (simply by virtue of its fucking namesake).

Dumbing shit down like no magazines, Unlimited running and jumping, health regen, no commander, are all BC2 qualities. BC2 WAS A CONSOLE PORT. WHAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND???

WTF does that shit have to do with being a port or not? Those could be gameplay decisions, based on what's fun (to everyone except jaded PC dinosaurs, which I thought I was one of until I saw you...)

It has dedicated servers, a high end DX11 engine, 64-players and looks fun. If BF2 is the be all end all of games for you, go play it till you drop, nobody's stopping you. What do you want that BF2 doesn't have, because as we all know, "gameplay trumps graphics" n all that jazz, so you should be perfectly happy sticking with BF2 forever.

I like not having things like non-regen health. It's retarded when you just want to have fun, to spend all your time searching for health packs n shit. Unlimited running and jumping, could care less, I mean how often is THAT an issue, you just make up shit to whine about. no commander, never cared for it in BF2 so I won't shed any tears.

Console port to me, means shit like non-dedicated servers, lame-o server browsers, inability to use all keys on a keyboard, bad graphics, etc. BF3 has (probably, judging by what we've seen and BC2) none of this. This is why PC gamers don't get good games, too many PC gamers want to go off on phony ass crusades over the little-ist issues instead of just enjoying a good game and being grateful for such high end graphics. Other developers see this and think we're childish, and not worth the effort, trust me.

I own 1942, BF2, skipped 2142, and own BC2.

This is BF3, not BF2. It's going to have differences. the CORE components are all there. BF3 also has larger maps which you're failing to mention, so it's literally NOT BC2. And i'll say it again for the thrid time. It's the same game as what the consoles have, they are going to have similarities. What part of that do YOU not understand?

And you should really refrain from using the term "console kiddies" since you're the one here crying up a storm over stupid shit. At least when they complain, they are complaining about the player count, which is a core component of the gameplay unlike the trivial things you're throwing a tantrum over.
