i might actually pee my pants in a fit of crazed joy if they announced this game would take advantage of 6 cores. I doubt it will though :(

Honestly, there is little need to ever go beyond 4. I can name maybe 3 or 4 enterprise grade back end applications that actually do this. The need for 6, or 8 cores is non existent and will probably never be required.

Perhaps if you're running a SQL 2008 server cluster or VMWare farm you might be interested in that many cores and stacked memory but for gaming? Nah, nothing to see here.

Hey guys, more news!

"BF3 will have the new experimental J10-X Fighter. Any enemy fighter caught within the visible range of one will instantly ignite into flames. The F35B Mk2 will also make an appearance. It will kill the pilot upon takeoff to save him the pain of trying to fight in the 'flying coffin' ":p

LOL. FINALLY!!!

i like the idea of prone just not the dolphin diving that results from it. i think they should add a 1-3second animation to it so people dont smash the prone button and it would make infantry combat more interesting then 10 guys all laying on there stomaches shooting each other on immediate site of.:p

I giggled. :D

I wonder if the f35b will have the new WTFWYSA radar, it takes a good lock and guides the missile conveniently in the direction of the nearest friendly aircraft

I can't support that, medic was my favorite class in BF2. I don't see myself standing over someone for 5 seconds, or even 3 just to revive someone. Rambo reviving was never a problem in BF2, if you managed to revive someone in clusterfuck situation and not get killed than the opposing team sucks, not the guy who goes in there to revive someone and gets away.
I don't about you dude, but IMO that were the most intense moments when playing as a medic, get in there in the middle of a hot spot, revive someone and still get couple of headshots before getting gunned down.

Also, the dragging your pal thingy is just an invitation for snipers, it won't be used much either. Maybe it does sound great to some but it's not practical in a game like BF.

Completely, 100% agree with this response... and I like the way you worded it, as well... good descriptiveness of the intensity of BF, how it's supposed to be, and the role/actions of a medic in all the chaos.

It's true, there's no time to stand even for three seconds without getting whacked, unless the other team does indeed suck. You need to "get in, get out", re-take a position somewhere and/or push forward or retreat, and there's only a moment to take all that action and make the decisions.

Also why I personally loved BF2, especially. Frenzied, chaotic and split-second decisions/twitch reactions were almost always needed in a good fight.

BF3 should be even more-so given the fact that, yes, destruction is not only an aspect of the game/new engine, but a main aspect, to add to realism, tactical work/thinking and general chaotic fun, which will make it all-the-more chaotic and enjoyable in the end.

I cant believe they're moving so fast, though. It seemed like we weren't going to see BF3 hit the light of day for quite some time, and they only recently dropped the DLC and 1943 remake to "focus more on BF3". No sooner did they just make that announcement/decision, then we're seeing a massive influx of info coming, and already, a release date!

Been playing the franchise since it's inception, so I absolutely cant ****ing wait!

gotta love futureshop....

So it seems the GameInformer mag is in the hands of a few people out there:

Okay, so going through the article:

-Aiming for CY Q4 2011 release
-Concept for BF3 has been in the works for years, waiting on proper tech to seamlessly come together
-Frosbite 2.0 is the culmination of this tech, entirely re-written
-Lighting sounds neat, one "probe" contains more lighting information than an entire BFBC2 level.
-Level destruction is going to be "believable" but basically everything is destructible.
-Character animations powered by ANT, what EA Sports uses.
-AI characters and multiplayer characters have different animation sets
-No more "gliding" animations that look off, animation realism is a focus
-Captured their own war audios (bullets, tanks, helicopters, etc) at different distances to ensure realism
-Better audio cues for certain actions, more easily able to listen for threats
-Plan on better, more immediate post release content
-More unlocks than BFBC2
-Dice trying to find a good balance between customization of your character and not having "pink rabbit hat(s)"
-4 classes
-Will talk about squads "later"
-Looking into a theater mode but can't talk about it
-Will have co-op
-There will be a kill-cam but it can be turned off
-BF3's team is almost twice as big as the team for BFBC2
-They want the pacing of the single player mode to be balanced, with highs and lows. Makes the comparison to a song vs a guitar solo.
-Part of the single player mode takes place in Sulaymaniyah - Iraqi Kurdistan.
-"Fuck" will be used often, so M rated for sure
-There will be an earthquake in a level. The destruction sounds very impressive. 7 story building collapses, looks very well done
-Significant narrative that goes with the SP mode
-More than one setting, you're not in the middle east for the whole game
-PC version is lead version
-Why 64 players for PC only? No complains from the console crowd.
-No mod tools at release. Maybe none down the line either. Frosbite 2.0 is complex and mods tools would have to be dumbed down, so does Dice really want to put their time to that or would it be better spent elsewhere?
-Original story, not based on Bad Company at all.

Edit: SCANS!

What I still want: C4 and vehicles. I hate tank whores.

Ditto, I've always been an AT fanatic ever since BF1942 and it's mod Forgotten Hope. Give me a modern AT weapon and I will go straight to fucking town on some tanks. :D

If the game has more accurate and realistic explosions (dust up, debris & sound), I'm gonna have to upgrade...EVERYTHING.

;)

I'll wait for a actual in-game screenshot that doesn't look blurred out (non Magazine scan that is) before I say anything about the graphics, though that shot with a AT4 and dust looks very convincing. I'm curious to see how far they push destruction.

Either way, looks like a overhaul is in order either way - I think my Core2Quad will choke and die at this :D

I have a Q6600 as well, I was hoping an upgrade with my video card and a SSD would be enough but I might have to build a new PC.

Where am I going get the money for that now, thanks a lot DICE!:(

When are those supposed to come out? Last i read, the 28nm cards are coming out late this year or early next year. Would be nice if both hit during the summer. :D

I believe late this year or early next for nvidia's 28nm and intels new socket.

Scans look great, particularly that dust coud, but I'll still reserve judgement until I get my hands on some quality high-res screenshots. Also, those screenshots look like they're from the SP campaign.

Wow, those scans look incredible! I hope those are in-game. Nice to see developers make pc the lead platform, for once.

For the love of god. Please don't put any recon class in this. I would love to see one fps without sniper or recon.

Highly doubt that will ever happen, the concept of a sniper is forever engrained in our minds. But it's a valiant thought for sure.

I'm hoping by the end of this year December. I know BF3 should be out before but I want to experience all its glory with the more up to date system.

I just read the scans that Superhuman linked to, and I must say, BF3 appears to be on-track to becoming a massively successful game- on PC as well as on Consoles.

As a budding game developer myself, I can respect their decision to focus primarily on creating the game they have envisioned now, then examine the possibility and feasability of making mod tools widely available to the public in the future. On the flipside, it would be rather short-sighted of them to ignore just how successful mods for BF2 are, and how much they have helped extend the longetivity of it. It would be a shame if they spent all of this time developing Frostbite 2.0, only to not allow modders to get their hands on it and see just what is possible with it, simply because they feel that the current tools are too complicated. I think they underestimate the modding community as a whole.

Don't forget BF1942. I still see constant updates and release of new mods for that game and it came out seven years ago. Obviously mods help extend playability so hopefully mod tools will come out at some point down the road after release.

Of course, BF1942 as well. Also, I believe it was released back in '02, which would make it Nine years old, not Seven. ;)

Good quality scans with more images: http://battlefield.gamersverse.com/articles/655/game-informer-cover-issue-including-scans/

The description of the single player demo that they were shown sounds incredible. This game is gonna be epic!

Thanks for the link, that was an interesting read.

Sounds like the game is shaping up to be the best multiplayer we've yet seen. Destructible environments sounds like it's taken to a new level.

Can't wait, I really need a DX11 card!

I'm kinda disappointed they're only allowing 4 classes and no commanders. Mostly the fact that there's no commanders. First, the top down view of the whole map was awesome. Second, it gave the game variety so that you're not only walking on foot and shooting each other in the face. Though the commander mechanic wasn't without its problems (ie. people only going for arty strikes, spot spamming, not providing supplies, etc), but they weren't issues that couldn't be fixed.

With that said, I don't particularly like the hud either (reminds me of ghost recon/ medal of honor)

Even then, I can't wait to see the game in motion. I realllllly hope this game lives up to BF2. There was so much breathing room there than Bad Company 2.

Since the word 'fuck' will be used in this game, I shall use it here.

NO MOD TOOLS?! FUCK!
Dice, y u no fucking understand

I'd complain about them limiting the server size to 64 player, but if more than that were allowed, it might limit the number of populated servers.

Yep, but DICE is still discussing how to implement modifications, modding as we knew it is no more. Too complex for the modding community apparently

scans look great. it's a shame to have this much excitement for a game so many months before it's released....tests my patience.
