Keybinding is annoying but.... the settings seem to be taking place now after having rebooted! Game looks a lot better.... and it's fun now that I've spent more time playing it. I'll post some screens later... they need to fix the HUD though.

EDIT: And oddly, performance swings from 30fps to around 55 occasionally after respawning, then finally settles in after a small hitch at 55... game's also maxing my VRAM.

Getting lots of flickering blue flashes at times too with low fps during those periods :(.

Right.....looks like a classic job of EA rushing a title out the door to try to maximize sales.

Granted, it's VERY buggy for what amounts to a glorified demo, but it is fun when it works properly, and the graphics issue being sorted out makes it look niiice :D.

Do the nvidia beta drivers released yesterday mess up the game or something? I was playing earlier tonight and it was fine (was usingt he 280.24 whql drivers) then I decided to try the 285.38 betas, and now every server I join, players and objects sink through the ground, especially when prone...

Anyone else getting this or what?

Same issue here.. My game is all jittery when I rotate and stuff. All kinds of artifacts. I'm on a 260 GTX till my SLI 570s arrive tomorrow :(

Played for the past hour with buddies. Was totally fun, I prefer the close combat battles in the subways...

What's the difference between watching amateur basketball and playing it? /sarcasm

Bad analogy.

You're trying to indicate that watching a live stream implies that the person(s) watching lack(s) the skill to play the game.

That has nothing to do with what he stated, he said that his impression from directly observing the game was that it appeared to be Call of Battlefield 3: Modern Company.

To him, it appears that DICE figured out since they couldn't beat Call of Derpy, might as well join them. If that's the case, then it appears that they sold out the loyal Battlefield community in favor of catering to the Call of Derpy casuals.

What he said was a perfectly valid statement. Playing it himself would yield very little tangible benefit opposed to directly observing the same thing.

Amateur... basketball, can be played by virtually anyone  . P.S. Why are you referring to yourself in the third-person viewpoint? You're the guy I had quoted!

so the open beta on the 29th, do I have to have bf3 pre-ordered to get in or is it for everybody?

Read D_Bo's post, and all subsequent posts, and all will be made perfectly clear.

What is that hanging off the front of the ak near the bottom? Its not an attachment, just looks like some little pipe thing connected by a wire.

Bipod, when you are standing in front of a waist high object like a wall or if you are in prone you can setup the bipod for better aiming accuracy.

BRB i will get some screenshots and maybe a video!

Play it first, then come back.

That's what I'm afraid of. Spend money on Battlefield 3 to realize I have already played it over the last several years.

I know the genre is what it is, but watching the live feed didnt give me the wow factor that I had hoped for. I am hoping it was just the map or the game mode that I disliked. I'm definatly not writing Battlefield 3 off for good, just going to give it the wait and see approach.

Open beta is free.

So far the game plays fine. I keep getting placed on teams full of snipers; so you know how that is going. I wish Bulldozer were out so I could not lag every time a building or wall loses a chunk of concrete. I hate dual cores processors. Running an AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition that refuses to be stable unlocked until Bulldozer is released.

I've been having a hell of a time staying connected to a game for more than 10 minutes. What's worse, when I'm disconnecting it looks like my stats aren't making it to the server. I've gotten probably 2 hours of game time in and the server only shows me with one kill logged.

I've reached rank 1 at least 3 times now...

It's odd because it doesn't seem like I'm getting disconnected from the server, but that I'm losing my internet connection completely. When I get booted from the game, the network icon in the bottom right twirls and re-finds my connection (I'm wired, not wireless). GFWL used to do the same thing. When I would attempt to connect to GFWL my internet connection would reset. This looks like it's doing the same thing, albeit 10 minutes into the game.

I don't believe you can accurately judge a game by watching a video. Can you get an idea? Maybe. Real knowledge... no.

so is ultra = ultra?

To be perfectly honest, no one can answer that atm, i think not...

Looks good... even with lots of JPG compression ;) (trees sway in the wind, with the shadows from their leaves & branches moving along with them on the ground & other objects, it's impressive stuff) :

Got the graphics issue sorted it seems, Ultra settings 2560x1600:

Much, much better...then before!

Does it look even better irl? :D

youll never really get the sense of the decision making or the teamwork or taking and making a shot/kill by watching a video. If those are some of the things you like in these games try the beta and hopefully youll like it

I can't remap any of my keys, mostly specific to what I use on the mouse. Anyone else have the same trouble?

I really hate when a guy is prone and I shoot the only thing visible... his head. and he doesn't die.

Still can't get a key. I have been waiting for five hours in the cs que.

Okay, get this.

I was bitching earlier about shitty graphics, performance issues, etc. When the AMD beta driver hosed my windows install I got so pissed off I ran out to Microcenter and bought SLI GTX 580's and installed them.

Now I can't find my SLI bridge, so everything I'm about to say is with ONE GTX 580.

WOW. It's a totally different game. First off, a singe GTX 580 is way, way, way smoother than 2 6950's flashed to 6970's. Second, the IQ is way better. It's night and day. There are effects that simply weren't there with the ATI cards - particularly volumetric and particle effects. The smoke looks amazing.

Tons of other issues are gone too. No more texture tearing or flickering. No more orange flashing. The game doesn't force me into a window in between each round!

For some real performance figures, for 1900x1200 a single Zotac GTX 580 AMP can play Ultra with 4x AA but it DOES lag when particle effects happen and I'd say an average around 25-30FPS. So if you want 60FPS on ultra, you WILL need two GTX 580's.

That being said, knock everything down to high and you're 60+fps all the time.

A lot of the ingame settings don't get enabled till the game is restarted so thats probably were all the missing effects went, dice have been working with both amd and nvidia on drivers for this, i can't see ati drivers are come out specifically for this and not render effects.

The flickering is something thats cropping up for both ati and nvidia users, probably a beta isue more so than a gfx card \ driver issue.

Nope, they simply weren't present. I played for a few hours on the ATI cards all the way up to level 11 this morning and they just weren't there no matter what I did.

Well im not experiencing any issue with effects missing from what i can see, not sure why you would have been.

Can anyone else get on the beta? Neither me or my buddy can get it to launch.. Once we click on the beta in origin, our chat goes offline, then nothing happens..
