In terms of the elements and core principles it was perfect. And its still the best, although BF2142 did introduce a new dynamic to gameplay and I think it was under-rated then. A blend of these two with Bad Company 2 would be great. Already im not liking the NY or Paris settings, I think thats unrealistic, you dont see ARMA doing that.

Not to toot our own horns but if they went for realistic, there would never be a map based on any place in America. We are much too proud of our freedom to let anyone try and take it. Imagine an invading force trying to do ANYTHING in New York, they'd get torn the fuck up from all directions by everyone with a gun or the ability to make amdamn spear lol....it would be beautiful...

But to run around and blow up New York in a game would be a good time.

I think DICE would have to really work hard to screw this up, theyve had years to refine the battlefield experience and I for one would be just as happy if they ended up releasing bf2 with updated graphics or bfbc2 with updated graphics as those games have a lot of great elements to them.

Please o please newegg be right about release date.

New York a battlefield? no freaking way. What country would US be fighting that is able to launch such an attack? If Russia they would go for California or alaska, if china then they would never be able to reach it in the first place. The only faction that can feasibly invade or attack USA is USA itself. So its a civil war which is the only realistic scenario. Dont know about you guys but they might as well call BF3 2142 instead. I didnt play modern warfare 2, there was an attack on washington in it, how did that happen?

China, with the largest military in the world(more than double the US), would never be able to reach US soil?

Um, ok.

Blah, those are merely uniformed numbers...the real problem china would face if they could establish a base of operations on mainland America would be dealing with the millions of armed citizens that have had plenty of gun time with MOH, Black Ops, Battlefield lol. No really...I would be one of the first giving them a hard time...how much fun i would have...

Um, ok.

It would, IMO, depend heavily upon naval forces. I think the US would wipe the floor with the Chinese, making any landing on US soil an implausible scenario.

I doubt it would ever come to that. The economies of the US/West and China are so tightly bound together any conflict between them would assure global catastrophe.

Btw, I loved playing the Chinese in C&C Generals. :D

Wait... are you guys seriously arguing about this? It's a game! Who frickin' cares if it could/would really happen? Sheesh... I could care less where BF3 takes place. Give me a game that plays, looks and sounds great.

Ya think I did that, though wasn't the intention, I think my point just got lost in my ramblings lol.

Um, ok.

you obviously know very little or modern warfare.
1) China does not have the means to send mass troops overseas.
2) Even if they did the US will easily crush any attempts to do so.

I fucking love this photo every single time I see it.

The funny thing is it's usually posted by the person that was wrong. hehe

The more I think about it, the more befuddled I become in regards to destructible environments and bombs from jets. How are they going to implement that? Nerf the bombs to make them like tank shells? Like someone else mentioned earlier in this thread, you can't have a jet running around taking out all the buildings and cover in the first two minutes of a match. That ain't cool.

lol u'd be lucky to have a single squad listen to the commander's orders, let alone having the entire team under his control like chess pieces.

Sounds like you played on crappy pub servers. Most clan servers (pub or private) had much better team work that what you described.

I was thinking about this too. I wonder if they've finally made it where the aircraft have to land and wait in order to rearm, not just fly over the landing strip. That would solve the "I'm being bombed every 5 seconds" and make pilots think twice before bombing a single sniper instead of going after a heavily armored convoy.

PS. I miss shoulder-launched AA missiles of Desert Combat...

So whats the deal with the MOH BF3 beta codes that IGN mentioned? I bought MOH new and in the box got the slip that says you will get the BF3 beta. Has anyone gotten their beta email or anything?

I want drop C4 from a transport copter all over the map as I get resupplied from a squad mate.

all you would need was a guy playing support in the chopper with you. then you heave out mines or c4 and automatically get resupplied.

Quoted for truth. I like realism in my games, to a point!

off topic a little,
But does anyone still play BF2? Im thinking about buying it again just for the hell of it.

^^ Haven't played it for about a year myself, if you do decide to get it grab yourself the deluxe edition. Deluxe includes bf2 & special forces add-on and all is patched upto date......makes installing a breeze and removes the need to multi-patch the game :)

BF2 deluxe edition - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Battlefield-2-Deluxe-PC-DVD/dp/B000G1SZTQ

Whether or not you have the deluxe version doesn't matter. EA has opened up all the expantion packs for anyone who owns the original. They did this around the time MW2 was released IIRC.

Yea it was in the 2gb 1.5 patch. I just bought the regular edition for 5 bucks so i cant complain. (best buy had the last copy marked down) :)

Off to play some BF2.

Bonus, even better.......might even grab a copy again myself :)

I still play it from time to time. Hell I even bought the Steam version of the game back in the Steam holiday sales. My Disk 1 CD was scratch to hell. And what ever you do, dont buy the Steam version. The game doesnt recognize your game Key let alone PB kick you cause of the Steam interface.

Steam blame it on Dice and Dice say they are working on it. There are several "work arounds" on the BF Steam forums http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=733 about the key issue and thats if your lucky it works. Dice never fixed it. One of there developers even refer to the work arounds lol. I end up buying EA classics Battlefield 2 collection DVD version from Ebay. I cant remember if I had to download the last patch.

The missiles/bombs themselves will probably be somewhere between the ordinance of the Hellfire and Mortar strike in BC2 if I had to guess, so it's not like they are dropping nukes or even bunker busters out there... so it'll likely take a couple hits to completely collapse a building. It's also likely that they will make you land before re-arming at the very least. I'm sure they will make an effort to not have them be overly effective to the point of taking away from the gameplay. Then again, I've been wrong before.

Did you every try launching the game without Steam being on? Just go to Steam>steamapps>common>battlefield 2>BF2.exe

That way, no Steam interface. If able to work around the key issues, then it should work fine I would imagine.

This next part is off topic a bit, so some of you may want to TL;DR. Fair warning ;)

China, with the largest military in the world(more than double the US), would never be able to reach US soil?

Um, ok.

Largest standing army, not the largest military force, most advanced equipment or the largest defense budget (remember, the US spends as much as the next 14 countries combined, more than 6 times what China spends). Their naval power is relatively minimal, as is their air force. They have the makings of a good occupying force, but lack the means to engage other nations in mechanized combat or even deliver that occupying force into a theater that isn't immediately nearby. This isn't 1886, or even 1942. Man power means very little when they are incinerated by a cruise missile from 500 miles away. In fact, the Chinese army would have trouble even taking Japan because of these limitations, and the Japanese don't even technically have a standing army (though their defense forces do many of the same things), not to mention the southern tip of Japan is only about 500 miles away from the coast China, where as the west coast of the US is closer to 5,000 miles away, and patrolled by the Pacific fleet. The Chinese forces are mainly geared toward keeping people out, or attacking neighboring countries. Not launching an attack over seas.

besides, China needs the US economy to keep from slipping back into an agrarian society (which is largely what it still is today), so an attack is unlikely anytime soon.

Not that any of this actually matters in a video game... Hell, Crysis had North Koreans developing Nano suits and Space Aliens who's ships could be taken down with .50 cal sniper rifle. Realistic, it was not.

And now I should thank the strangest and most off the wall PolySci class in the history of the world for teaching me these tidbits that I would later put to absolutely no good use on internet forums. So thank you Professor Dave. You thoroughly wasted my time, just as I have wasted everyone's time who has read this post. You did help boost my GPA though. :p

Holy hell I forgot about how weird the accuracy is in BF2... It is gonna take a while to get used to again..

I hope the guns are more like CoD in BF2.

I've started playing BF2 to get warmed up for BF3 and the sniper rifles feel like an inaccurate BB gun.

If anything people should warm-up or practice for BF3 with BC2. BF3 uses Frostbite 2. BC2 uses Frostbite. BF2 uses its own un-named engine. Me thinks BF3 will feel a little more like BC2 than BF2. The gameplay structure could very well be more like BF2, however. Speculation is fun. :)

Eh Im just more or less, replaying BF2, since I haven't touched it since the good old 6800GT era. :)
