Battlefield 3 - Official Thread

I can't see that being final. In my EA account settings I have multiple soldier names listed, including mine from BF2, BF2142, Battlefield Heroes, and BFBC2. I can go into my EA account control panel and set which gamertag my entire EA account is known as. This also changes the name that is listed in the EA forums and such also.

However, the EA account defaulted to the latest one each time I created a new one. So my latest gamertag from BC2 is set on the account. I have a feeling BF3 will be just like all games previous that were tied to the EA account... it will take the latest one you created in-game and use it as your default account/EA forum name.

yay! something else for the whiners to bitch about.

I'm sure the character select method will end up exactly like BC2, and hell even if by some chance you could only have one soldier then I'm sure you can delete it and start over if it bothers you that much.

When you actually read what Matros says in his tweet it is pretty clear on its face that they intend to lock your alias to your Origin account name:

Yellow_Coyote Ba Keitz Ogie
hi @zh1nt0 , short question:Will it still be possible in BF3 to freely choose your ingame nick(soldiername),like it has been with BFBC2? thx

@zh1nt0 Daniel Matros
@Yellow_Coyote your name is linked to your origin persona

Which is exactly how it was implemented in the alpha.

Well that kills 90% of the fun in switching to an alt that you level up with your buddy for fun. Or god forbid create an alt and hop on a noobie server and terrorize them with the starter weapon. Getting accused of hacking because you were god mode compared to the guys that bought the game off the last Steam sale was fun as hell. Especially when the server that you normally played your high level on was infested with aimbots.

A lot of players make new soldiers after reaching lvl 50 or unlocking everything.

...Are we really going to see apologists for taking this away as well?

I guess BC2 rankings are easy mode compared to BF2 rankings /shrugs

569 hours and I only made 1st Lt.

Are we really going to see whiners over something so trivial?

Is it trivial if you like making alts to start over again to level with friends, but don't want to delete your max level character? Because this change completely eliminates that replay value.

So....you play multiplayer to level your character and not to shoot people and capture objectives? This negative community reaction seems ridiculous to me.

Apart from the fact of course that I do not want to use my Origin ID as my BF3 character name. Origin is starting to have fail written all over it.

Yes lots of people do, and who are you to say how people should derive enjoyment from their games. Whilst you are at it, maybe you should go into the WoW thread and denigrate people for endlessly grinding in order to level their characters.

In BC2 I had three personas, one for when I started and was learning the ropes, a second one for the vietnam expansion and a third one for more serious gaming. Limiting users to a single persona is just a ridiculously artificial restriction, which probably has more to do with tying us down to Origin than any other logical explanation.

Thank you for bringing up my next point. This isn't BC3, this is BF3.

It wont stop hackers in the least.

It would make it a PITA.

One game and solider per account. The hacker would have to buy/obtain a new cd key and create a new account every time they get banned.
That would get old after the second time. I think most hackers do it because they saw it on YouTube and want to try it.
Casual hackers would stop, reducing the total number to an almost minimal amount.

Everyone wants it like BF2, at least most and are pissed that it looks to be like BC3. But they want to have multiple characters/profiles which I never ever knew you could even do in BF2. While we are at it lets make an FFA mode so that no teamplay is required and it can be even more like BC2!

Yup. See, I care about gameplay, not what is borderline social features.

In no game have I ever used a different character than my own. If that ability makes or breaks the game for you, then simply move right along and find a new game.

I'm glad I'm not buying this game anymore.

Then why are you still posting here?

All you are doing is calling people 'apologists' that do not think exactly like you do. Arguments in this thread woul be cut by 4/5's if people like you, who have decided not to even by this game, would stop coming in here and picking at scabs looking for a fight.

Knock it the f off and move to a new thread.

No no no no no. YOU are telling people how to derive enjoyment from their games. YOU are the one stating it is all wrong what EA/DICE/ORIGIN is doing because it needs to be played X, Y or Z way, a way other than the way the game developer, producer and distributor has decided to design their game and/or service.

No it isn't exactly clear. I read the tweet as well. His statement is more ambiguous than most of you are reading into. Everyone seems to be jumping straight to worst case scenario. I see another possibility as exactly as I posted. You create a soldier in game, it creates a new EA persona on your EA account...just like it has since BF2. Thus your EA persona is linked to your in-game soldier, just like he stated.

He made the statement ambiguous because it probably isn't finalized yet. Notice how his answer says "is linked to your Origin persona." Note the keyword "linked" which only implies some sort of connection to each other, not that they are one in the same. He used that phrasing for a reason. He DID NOT SAY "Your name IS your Origin persona."

Im currently in EA's live chat, but everytime i click on Chat where you'd think the chat box would appear it stays blank, is it that way for everyone? Does it stay blank until a representative is able to chat then the box appears? Iv used IE, Firefox, Chrome, they all do it.

Scratch that, IE stays blank, and Chrome and Firefox the chat area says "Bad Request". EA's site blows.I uninstalled and re-installed Java and it didnt change anything.

Got a code for a free game too, was going to buy me2 soon and now have a free code with my 48 dollar bf3 preorder :D.

speaking to live chat now, they are telling me that the free game/25% promo is discontinued...

argh, spoke with two reps via live chat and they are telling me that the promo is ONLY for alpha testers and the emails were sent out automatically. so thats obviously not true if you guys are getting the free game promo email just for pre-ordering bf3 via origin. i directed them to this thread but they were unwilling to read it as it 'wasn't an official ea website'
