Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

ROFL!

The beta put me off. The external internet server browser idea to launch the game is just plain STUPID, what the hell was the benefit of doing this as opposed to using the tried and true way of ingame browser? Why fix what wasn't broken? Oh wait I forgot no one at DICE knows how to create a fully functional in game browser based on their past failures anyway.

I was once excited about this game, now I just ask myself why I pre-ordered it.

The Beta was more than just a Beta, it was definitely being presented as a marketing tool especially when those tools from Dice post shit on twitter like be prepared for a surprise tomorrow giggitygiggitygiggity and then put up a few 64 player conquest servers and "leak" the password and cry about it. This whole thing was an epic fail. For those of you that think otherwise, don't be so naive.

Sorry, but it is a beta, not a marketing tool.

The fix to the issue is simple. Fix your computer. Very few people are experiencing crashes to desktop.

LOL. No. The game has CTD issues, I have them occasionally, and I know every one of the 7 people I play with have occasional CTD's too. Not server disconnects, crashes. Just because you don't have problems doesn't mean there aren't problems.

It seems the settings / quality of the servers makes a night and day difference in playing this beta; hopefully that isn't the case at launch. Sorry to keep spamming the same post here, but I'll say it again for those not having a good time in the beta - set your filter to Gameservers.com servers (TX/CA/IL Gameservers.com #xxx). It no longer feels buggy as hell and the game feels pretty clean, although you will still get the occassional dead person in the floor who can still kill people. :(

And I guess I don't get the hate for Metro, although I'm sure playing it 24/7 doesn't help. I think it's a hell of a map; it flows really well from outdoors > indoors > outdoors with really unique and different feels between the phases. I think it's great.

i agree, i like the map in spite of it not offering the typical battlefield formula (wide-open areas, vehicles etc.). i'm only getting sick of it because i've sunk about 15 hours into it.

The problem is regardless of what DICE intended for it to be, it is a marketing tool right now because its free for all and everyone are trying it out and these people are going to judge the game based on what they are seeing right now.

We could all argue about the definition of beta but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what it really meant. What matters is the beta's influence on the potential customers out there, those are real and we can't change that.

A friend warned me about throwing grenades near bushes, but it's something you don't appreciate until you try it yourself.

While hiding in the shrubs, I toss a 'nade which travels about a foot before becoming MAGNETICALLY STUCK TO A LEAF!???!? OMG WTF RUN !

The nades absolutely suck in BF3, my biggest complaint. You throw like a 10 year old girl and the explosion radius seems miniscule. Plus, a glowing red dot and a 10 second fuse? Last night I threw a nade in between 5 people - in bc2 and nearly every other game it would have been 2,3+ kills, and I was already talking shit in Mumble, "Incoming 4 kill nade!". It didn't even hit one person, no x at all.

Some people were worried about this game being little more than BC 2.5 on steroids but in some respects maybe that's the way it should have been.

Overall, I really like the game and I know I'm going to have fun with it when it streets but I'm hoping there's some tweaking and fixing that'll happen on some of these issues.

I found a bug where you can smash concrete barriers to smithereens by throwing medic kits at them. I was trying to heal myself by hiding under a barrier and bouncing the med kit off it onto myself. I thought I was under attack by a 50 caliber sniper rifle that was chipping away my cover! Then I realized it was me!

I agree. Not being able to cook grenades is a step back I think. The most frustrating thing for me when throwing a grenade, is the inability to effectively bounce it off of walls!

In the third section of Metro on the right hand side there is that room with two doorways that offers the defenders a vantage point of the escalators and the A MCom across the way. Coming up those stairs on the right as an attacker you are in a perfect place to bounce a grenade off the door frame and into the room where there are almost always three to five defenders hanging out. Instead, the grenade hits the door frame and just drops almost straight down.

I'm not looking for rubber grenades, but I would think a grenade would rebound a bit better than that in real life!

Bounce off the wall, not the frame, WORKS

I was looking forward to BF3 until I tried the beta, man, it just sucked so bad. I'm at a loss for words... Even BC2 plays better, this felt just as arcadey and uninspired as COD MP. Not what I was expecting at all, certainly didn't give me the feeling that this was a Battlefield game.

Haven't gotten any word of anyone actually being banned, and there had to have been hundreds, if not thousands, that joined the hacked servers. Probably more of a scare tactic to try and avoid it getting out of hand before they could fix Battlelog.

the nades do suck balls but if you hit 5, you'll equip the nade. hold fire to cook maybe? i ask because when i played it took me a while to get used to 3 and 4 switching from bc2 (kit/defib) and i'd hit 5 in the moment under fire and have let a nade drop thinking it was a defib. anyway, someone can try 5, +fire to cook a frag?

Also, in regards to the nades - I think by not giving you infinite nades from the supply box, that was nearly all the fixing that was required from BC2 > BF3. I will admit to being a massive nade spammer in BC2; give me a rock to hide behind and a planted MCOM and I go shock and awe on that bitch. ;)

BF3 definitely fixed that, you get your 1-2 nades and perhaps 1 more eventually from a supply box. They didn't also need to nerf the throwing distance, fuse timer, explosion radius AND put a blinking red "RUN AWAY" light on it that you can even see through walls.

i'm happy with the way grenades handle. makes for less nade chucking and more weapon firing.

has anyone tried partying up and joining a server?

did it spilt you up into diff squads teams?

I do wish you could cook nades, and by default having just one kinda sucks, would love 2, and 4 with the perk enabled

i agree with the sort of fix with the nade spamming but really? hit a wall or bush and fall straight down or instantly stop rolling? i've had to run away from my own frag so many times its just blah

i haven't partied up...but i joined a a buddy's game invite and it put us on different squads. same team though.

ha same here. like someone said above, i've done the whole "throw nade while hiding in a bush, watch it stick to a leaf in front of your face, spam space bar and run like hell" thing.

Does it also seem to anyone else that bushes sometimes stop bullets, as well, if someone is "deep" in them? If someones on the edge and visible, I don't have a problem. But seems like if I spam someone after I just lose sight of them (probability that they're still in that spot or similar very high) I can't hit them.

THIS! at the beginning of the map when defending, i go and cover the wall on the right side, i throw nades or shoot into bushes along the wall afte ri see someone dive into them and i NEVER hit them. gotta freakin wait until they stand up or peek before i can kill them. stupid force field bushes!

Dumbest thing about grenades is the fact they can get stuck in the grass if you throw them from the prone position. Then you have to haul arse the opposite way to avoid a suicide.

they ahve tweet'd that they are aware of the issue and are working it

I'm getting intel that on console you cant even join on a friend at all

I find it hilarious the the bushes are bullet-proof, yet the rocks might as well not even exist.

I've been shot out the bushes and vice versa

in the openeing stage teh sticky bush grenade trick can work wonders

squad spawned in the bushes by one of the small circle plazas, stick a grenade :)

I've had two do the join friend from list and one was on my team diff squad, and one was on the other team, but with a full squad and server I expect some of that to happen

I am guessing no one has really tried to party up and join due to the load on server, good luck finding a server with 5 or 6 slots open

So children will not buy the game? Works for me.

I would hope they don't ban people due to the excitement we are craving to try and play Battlefield, not just a BC2 rush map.

Would be some pretty seriously bad PR on their front, not that they are winning any awards in that arena atm anyways.

This is one of the worst open-beta's I've watched in a while. Just terrible decisions all around.

Maybe the sky isn't falling?

Yes he did leave it open for discussion and assumption but that is due to the fact he wants the designers to be the ones with the final outline on how squads will work. We should have that for everyone to read and have a clear picture of how squads work soon.

Thanks for the suggestion. I feel like I tried that without luck, but I could be wrong; I'll give that a shot.

I think what they meant was that playing on hacked servers could lead to the player's accounts being compromised, and that compromised accounts which were used for malicious means would be banned.
