Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

For those who were lucky enough to play Caspian Border and also got to fly the Jets and/or helicopters, could you please tell me if there was joystick support? If so, which joystick did you use?

Posting in the battlelog forums is almost pointless now. It is completely overrun by people that believe they are owed everything and demand the unreasonable. That is before factoring in the children that just want to start new threads on the same topic saying DICE sucks for not doing XYZ in the beta and now they are canceling.

On top of that, now it seems to be full of COD players that just want to claim the game sucks and is a COD clone, and when you look at their games you see under 20 minutes played and not playing in over 3 days.

The lack of moderation on battlelog is seriously gimping the entire point of it.

I think it's gonna calm down after release. Right now you have a bunch of little kids on bogus origin accounts trolling non-stop.

Never got to fly, but I am also not a good pilot(excellent gunner though).

i can tell you if you are worried about BF3 not being BF enough, caspian border removed all doubt from my mind.

There are seperate key bindings for Keyboard, Mouse, and Joystick so I doubt there's going to be a problem with getting joysticks to work... hopefully.

I definitely have zero doubt about conquest mode after watching the videos of the gameplay. That's why I am really anxious to know about the joystick support. I was a damn good pilot in BF2, but I cannot fly the jets with a keyboard and mouse...I just suck at it. I can fly the choppers with KB/M though.

hopefully... Bad Company 2's horrible joystick support despite being in the menus really disappointed me. I am very hopeful, but still concerned for BF3. If it is broken, I hope it won't take them months to fix it.

Thank god, I am soooo tired of Battlefield of Duty in that little park :p

The start of Karkand was so annoying. USMC just sit on the hill lobbing 'nades half the round. Although I'll admit I had quite a few 'nade kills that way myself ;)

huh, I thought they couldn't get OFF the hill from the nade spam from Iraqqi side :) (and snipers, and tank and BMP fire....)

Not the times I remember. There was always a squad that went down the water to capture the back-end of the map keeping them trapped in the first two spawn points closest to the USMC un-caps. And of course half of them ran up to the front of the hill waiting to catch some 'nades! :D

Good times. Can't wait to relive those Karkand days! Only no more 'nade spamming :(

well ya, but if that squad didn't die 5 times each the defenders were doing it wrong

Sure will be interesting with destructible environment. Snipers? drop that 12 story building on them :D

the way i remember Karkand, if the MEC were pinned down it was from nade spam by USMC. if the USMC were pinned down it was from weapon fire, particularly snipers up in the hills firing down on the USMC spawn point. DEAR GOD i can't wait to play Karkand in BF3.

Me and my friends were one of the guys raining nades down from the building above the first flag. God I loved C4 jumping up there with a squad spawning on me then just playing pissing everyone off.

The fix to the issue is simple. Fix your computer. Very few people are experiencing crashes to desktop. Its most likely an issue with your computer. YOU deal with it. Do you always pass the blame onto someone else.

Lots of people were getting the random server disconnects, but for the most part thats been taken care of. (If not, try the firewall edge traversal thingy, worked perfect for me)

I agree, it has to an issue with their computer.

I have had zero CTD's and only a few server disconnects during hours and hours of gameplay.

there are many factors when it comes to CTD's, just because you dont experience them does not mean others shouldnt either.

I've been having some jittering problems with my setup using the nvidia BF3 beta drivers. I thought I read somewhere that someone rolled back to older drivers and it fixed their jittering problems. I haven't seen it mentioned since. Anyone confirm that is a solution?

I have almost everything on low/off with my GTX-285. I know it's not an FPS issue.

the only jitter i experienced with the beta drivers happened when i was under ~50 fps. i had to lower settings to get rid of the perceived jitter.

Two more people banned from the thread. Discussing BF3 is fine, but discussing each other (in a negative manner) is not. Attacking the ideas of other posters is fine, but attacking them on a personal level is not.

two big things we havnt seen yet are the scout helicopters, I am genuinely interested in seeing those, and also the A-10.

Ooo...those both sound awesome!

Although IMO the Beta has been extremely buggy, and Metro is terrible, I'm still looking forward to this game's release.

Rejoice, I hope the physical copy key will be able to activate via steam

I doubt it will be anything more than "sure you can do this: steam click > opens origins > click to open battlelog > click to open BF3"

I still think they could have done something much more visually appealing with battlelog in game, and been rid of that clunk web interface that serves no real purpose other than to just require yet another click to open the game and prevent you from playing single player if you are not online.

This was going to be my question as well. So it's on Steam--does that mean you click to start the game and battlelog fires up? Or does Origin have to turn on?

well shit. i wonder what sort of process i'll have to jump through to cancel my Origin pre-order and get it through steam? ...assuming this comes to fruition.

Ideally you would cancel your pre-order anyways, since doing so would increase the likelihood of EA going "shit, we need to get these orders back".

The ONLY reason EA is considering this is because of the massive amounts of cancellations since the open-beta(ie. market/stability test). They know BF3 isn't living up to the hype at all, and they need to scrape back sales to make this push worth it.

i have no interest in 'playing games' with EA. i'll buy the game either way, would just prefer it on steam.

-so glad im getting release-day copy from amazon pre-order-

hopefully i can enter the key on steam by then so i dont have to tie it to origin [wishful thinking that steam might alter the log-in process]

I can't remember how I did the first time, but after clicking play on the game in Origin and it opens the browser , did we then login to that EA browser? THAT I could see as EA's purpose if not, the Origin login relays the info.

as of beta, you can either launch origin first or not. if you do and launch bf3 via origin as you did, you're taken online and you have to log in again to your EA account (for battlelog) where you'll do your server searching. since its http (not https) theres more persistent login so in the future, you dont have to relog into battlelog unless you move to a diff browser or computer. THEN once you join a server, (if you havent launched origin, it's launched) origin opens up and ACTUALLY launches the bf3 binary and the game loads up.

ty, snooze

One other note, Anyone notice a lack of mutual kills in gun fights? My most obvious example I RPG'd a guy at close range, heard explosion, but I died from his bullets :( Almost like the sudden death voided my damage to him.

They clearly see the beta for what it is: a beta. Not some marketing gimmick/people let down by the 'hype.'

I have had mutual kills.
