Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

I'd call you a hacker too. Look at the differences there. Was there a lot of turnover? How many tickets was that server?

54 Minute round with 92 kills in the Helo. Not unplausable.

Looking at the surface then yes, potential hacker...but as tehslippery did, looking deeper you'll see that it isn't cut and dry, people playing the game would have seen deeper then the surface. I WAS a heli gunner with an excellent, consistant pilot. Their Heli pilots and mobile AA gunners were...atrocious to say the least. Level and very predictable flight patterns make for easy TV targets. Amazing pilot though, knew exactly how to use ECM and when to bug out. At one point we managed to escape both helis, the mobile AA, and an infantryman with anti-air...really can't say enough about his skills.

their admins are gay? were you not gay enough so they banned you? I dont understand?

That is not a term that refers exclusively (or even historically) to homosexual people. It has been appropriated as such by some in the past, and gained some popularity in that context, but it has never and will never be exclusively used in reference to homosexuals. In fact, its use as a derogatory term for homosexuals is arguably less legitimate than its use in reference to contemptible or burdensome people.

so was he calling the admins "old unpleasant women"? Because thats what the term refered to in the 16th century.

but lets forget about this and carry on the discussion of bf3 please.

I really have zero issue locking this thread and anything opened to replace it. Feel free to continue this bit of conversation if you would like that to happen.

So endgame...Anybody think there will be another DLC?

lol....QUICK EVERYONE...SWITCH TOPIC! lol

I just thought the abruptness of the change humorous...not laughing at you Oldie, lol.

Endgame seems like the last until bf4. It would be great if they went to work on a real anti cheat for bf4 but I am not holding my breath.

Ehhh, you say that. Everybody hates on Punkbuster until they play a multiplayer FPS without it.

Take a look at Crysis and their homebrew anticheat, they've used in Crysis 2 and now will be using again in Crysis 3. It's a joke.

If DICE attempts their own anticheat for BF4, I think we'll all be in for a rude awakening. Seriously this is DICE we are talking about, they can't even implement features they've masted in past BF titles.

Sorry. I meant to say release it with the ability for the players to monitor it more like battlerecorder and mods for competition. That has really killed it lately.

I'd really like for them to implement a spectator mode in BF4. Not just as a way to monitor potential cheaters, but to learn from other players...especially the uber pilots...I can't figure out how they do it....and im pretty good but some of them are...just damn good.

Yeah I miss that too. I recall learning a lot doing that in BF2. Youtube videos are ok but not the same.

Just played some rounds with my bros.

Went 50-1 on rush.

The hackusations were flyinggggggggggggggggggggg.

144hz monitors are too fucking good.
lol, I feel like a measly peasant with my 27" 120hz Samsung, I'm only consistently pulling 4/1 - 6/1 ratio's on the reg in scavenger mode with no medics.

Awesome round saedrin! Congrats on the 40 kill killstreak also! You just had to beat my 37 kill streak huh! Freaking 144hz hacker! ;)

Also I'd love to see 1st person spectator mode in BF3/4. I really enjoyed having that in COD2/4.

Yeah it was pretty hilarious. I'm so pissed off that Dxtory was trying to record to a drive that didn't exist...

Figures. Then I fixed that problem and played like 4 more rounds absolutely dominating, and forgot to set Dxtory to capture my mic.

The combination of a bad enemy team, fast reflexes, and really good squad mates is super strong. Last couple of days I think I'm averaging over 5:1 KDR all told, all conquest/rush. :D

Unfortunately my ratio is gonna suffer soon... Prob will start going negative and lose my 1st place spot :( Getting back into weight lifting starting tonight. Whenever I lift my aim goes to shit, but it's needed, gotta get ready for the ladies this summer ;)

Was 6'7" 265lbs and cut down to 235lbs. Been dieting and running 3 miles, 3 times a week for the last 3 months. Now I want to gain ~15lbs of muscle.

Does anyone else lift hard and still play BF3 or any other FPS?

Yup. It makes me tight and over swing my aim.

I've been doing it for the past 3 years. The only thing that bothers me is my carpel tunnel from lifting heavy and working on a PC.

Theres no magic to 'uber pilots' that you're going to learn from a video. It simply boils down to flight hours - the more you have the better you'll get. There will be many breakthrough moments, "a-ha" moments along the way where you reach a new level of proficiency that you can feel, hard to explain but it'll just happen. Example people wonder how jet pilots know how fast they're going while they're in 3rd person view most of the time during a dogfight to be able to keep it in the magic 310-315 speed range -- they dont know, they just have a feel for it having done it enough times.

I've got over 100 hours of flight time...granted there are some that probably have double or triple that time but...in all this time I still can't seem to figure out the uber pilots. It would be really nice if I could use my hat switch without the modifier key so I could follow my target as we circle round eachother...maybe thats a short coming of my jstick that others dont have...I dunno.

Regardless, I did it again...and these guys were bitching up a STORM! lol...spent the whole time in the air...they didn't even put much effort into using AA of any form...it was enjoyable.

lol

I was getting owned all over the place. Wondered why the game seem so sluggish and why my right eye was tearing up. Turns out, after I switched to 1080i to watch a movie my old 37" lcd, my game had somehow changed the refresh to 60. Even though the in game menu and windows showed 120. Turned it back to 120 and viola! I could shoot again. derp

Playable? I doubt it. E3 Maybe.

We've known about BF4 for months now.
Oh, you rather see more COD instead?

Huh? How you jumped to CoD makes no sense to me.

I'd rather see rational releases of games with continued life cycle support. Battlefield 3, to me, still has long legs. Especially considering another expansion is on the way. Yes, we've known BF4 was being talked about for a long time. The MoH beta access stuff... But that doesn't mean the game was in the production stage, just in the "it will happen eventually" stage. Now it sure seems like they are shifting focus from BF3 to BF4. Which means a shortened life cycle for BF3. That is what I don't want. Annual/Semi-Annual releases are the worst.

Battlefield is on the path to constant releases just like CoD. If the "CONGRATULATIONS YOU ARE PRIVATE FIRST CLASS 2 GOLD STICKER STARS." and "HERE'S A PATCH FOR SHOOTING A GUY IN THE FOOT" and Bow n Arrow wars didn't tell you this, then I don't know what will.

I will always preach that BF2 did it right. Real ranks that took a grind, hard to achieve medals, Actual in game VOIP with 6 man squads and COMMANDERS. Hell BF1942 was awesome just for the fact that I could beach an Aircraft carrier if I wanted to....of walk on the wing of a B17 while in flight (and then fall off and hear my guy literally shit his pants). BF:Vietnam was horrible because of the Doppler effect music in vehicles...that was just utterly terrible that it made me laugh every time I heard "Flight of the Valkyries" in high pitch when a helicopter was approaching

No infantry should be ManPADs...Shotgun with explosive rounds? Blinding by flashlight during a desert day? The Physics are cool but shit....if they just would have rebuilt BF2 using the destruction physics (and left the flight model BS that frostbite loves....Fuck gamepads) the game would have been amazing.

Maybe I'm getting bitter in my "old" age? I don't know. I just remember listening to "Reign in Blood" while playing BF:1942 Christmas day as I had just gotten both, and then playing Desert Combat a year later with a friend. Those were the good ol days that are now long gone.

Team working on expansions =/ team working on BF4 now. They are overlapping and I am ok with that as long as they bring good content. By the time BF4 releases it would've been two years and for me that is perfect timing.

With as long as games take to develop these days, you'd be naive to think that they hadn't started on BF4 after a couple weeks of releasing BF3. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they have a 5-10 year roadmap planned out hanging on an office wall somewhere.

These were definately the best days of the franchise, 1942 still ranks as my all time favorite BF game and Desert Combat was awesome...I fondly remember the two seater Mig (was it a mig) where the weapons officer could rain hell from the heavens...just an awesome mod.

Personally, BF1942 is one of those games that I think should be remade without changing the game and just updating it to modern visuals and teammate mechanics (cant remember how squads were in 1942)...of course it will never happen.

The big hurdle and time suck of creating Frostbite 2 for BF3 will pay off with BF4. I have my doubts about buying another Battlefield title at this point (lessened somewhat by Aftermath, which surprised me) but BF4 should be a more matured product at release than BF3 was, both in quality and technical production.

It would be nice if they got a new Lead Art Director, though, amongst other things. I have a hard time imagining BF4 standing out from BF3 in the sense of visual presentation, especially if it has the stupid fucking blue filter again.

A DICE dev that was very involved with the BF3 community (forgot his name) was pulled from the BF3 team 1-2 months after release.
He said that they were forming a team to start on the next project. Well, here's it is. Two years from release sounds about right for another BF game.
We just didn't expect it to be BF4, but it seems like MS and Sony are pushing for it more than the PC community. IMO, MP gaming communities die faster on consoles.

As for the COD comment. I rather hear of a better game like BF4 being announced than another COD.
By Novemeber, people would be ready to move on from BF3, especially if BF4 is a lot better.

I'd rather hear of BF4 as well. And you're probably right, people put way more time into these games than I do. So they're probably close to finished with it. And it's definitely a console driven thing. Afterall, CS1.6 is still kicking out there.

The other persons comment about Frostbite 2 maturing in BF4 would be nice. Though there were rumours BF4 was being developed side by side with Frostbite 3. Which could be good or bad.

And I'd like a lucky pot of gold at the end of every rainbow but it ain't happening. You think they're only now shifting focus from BF3 to BF4? The core team that developed BF3 were to moved to BF4 as soon as BF3 was out the door -- referred to only as "future project" by DICE devs like Alan Kertz on twitter and in interviews when they've alluded to the transition. Its just been a skeleton crew supporting BF3 since. The people that have been cranking out the maps are just a handful on an essentially B-Team/C-Team/summer interns for all we know.

Obviously the notion of annualized shooter releases sucks, but thats just the reality now especially with BigCo publisher like EA. With MOH:WF being such an utter failure and causing EA to essentially sit out 2012's holiday sales season, more pressure than ever on DICE to deliver BF4 ASAP, with more emphasis than ever on an annualized release model for the Battlefield IP.

The idea of building a game nowadays where it snowballs into a phenomenon spanning years or decades of replayability and community support, those days are mostly behind us and certainly don't look for it from one of the biggest publishers since they see it as detrimental rather than beneficial to cashflow.

They do have shotguns with explosive rounds, and they also have flashlights that WILL blind you during even the brightest of days. Does that make for fun gameplay though? Probably for whoever is using them, not the person receiving.

I'm sure a bit of the aging process is fueling your anger. Nostalgia, memories of those good ol days with the classic games. It happens.

I feel your pain, but remember the videogame market experienced a paradigm shift since the days of BF2 -- the hot pocket eater console kids are the darlings of videogame sales now - they run the show with their sunny d mustaches and cheeto smear controller. As such BF2 had to adapt as EA saw it -- meaning instant action and no break in the action, constant second-by-second reaffirmations and feedback for a job well done, full ADHD arcade mode sensory overload.

Had they merely modernized BF2 with a new engine and maps it would've been panned as too slow, too boring, too tactical/strategic and ultimately a failure by most present day metrics. It sucks but its reality.
