Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

It could be implemented much better. As it stands now you get good-try-sonny points for spraying in an enemy's general direction while your teammate does the hard part.

not exactly

supporesion can render the enemy a sitting duck because you cant shoot for shit while being heavily suppressed

Btw, is it just me, or am I the only one that likes suppression?

Agreed, I think it's a near-perfect implementation. You shouldn't be able to simply step out into a hail of incoming fire and aim perfectly for a HS. It makes covering fire a valid tactic and it should be rewarded.

Also, hardcore is the only way to play BF3 / BC2. The 3D spotting, HUD clutter and ridiculous amount of damage you can take in normal all suck.

i wish the random bullet spread would die, and they would amp up the blur and slow aiming

heaven forbid I still line up a HS and it misses, I get PISSED

You should Mount and Blade Napoleonic wars. Pretty much you aim in the general direction and hope. Then start the 10 second (sped up) reload. :D

Well since we got to wait a bit for Aftermath. I went through all the information out there that I thought was interesting, and made a video basically breaking down all of the info from the DLC and all of the info from the patch itself for balancing and bug fixes. So if you guys are curious about anything, take a look!

it is very far from "near perfect".

You get random deviation when suppressed, aka your bullets dont go where you are aiming them. So it rewards the ones that are missing shots, and negatively impacts the person who can actually aim. Put scope sway in, make the screen blurry, but dont make the bullets not go exactly where im aiming at.

Anyone switching to PlanetSide2 from BF3? Me do. Even though BF3 is beautifuul it miss teamwork you have in PS2.

I'm starting to return to my opinion that this game's MP is garbage. There are just so many bad decisions in how it's all set up, and the latest thing to piss me off is the flat-out awful spawns in Squad DM Mode (I was spawned directly in front of the enemy LAV four times in one match, as well as spawned directly in front of enemy players, resulting in an immediate death) and that team auto-balancing isn't very good. Add this to the problems I mentioned earlier and there are just a laundry list of dumb ideas and shoddy implementations of them.

The other thing that make me not enjoy this game that isn't the game's fault is the fact that Punkbuster is utterly worthless in detecting hacks. I play late at night due to net congestion during the day and evening making the game unplayable. Admins aren't on at that time to deal with the dozen or so hackers I have already come across in the week I've had the game.

Waste of $45.

Man, I've never had the problems you describe. There are times when you spawn in front of the enemy, but that's in TDM. In SDM, you can always spawn on your squad mate.

There are servers with fairfight and pb running that seem to catch more of the douchebags now. Still, the game is seriously flawed and not to be taken seriously. Just have some stupid fun with it and don't stress.

Thank you - was going to say this.

I can't stand normal mode. Shoot the red triangle!!

Generally this is good advice, but there's one reason I still prefer normal to HC in both BC2 and BF3: HC's ease of killing means that you get so many boring fucking corner-squatting holes just farming their KDR instead of contributing or challenging themselves and you. I like HC a lot in theory, but every single server I join is populated by the most boring players utilising the easiest and cheapest approaches to rank their shit. It's hard to call because I hate shit like a modern battle rifle taking 4-5 shots to kill someone, but at the same time if you're someone who actually plays the objective and there's some boring turd sitting in a dark corner waiting for people to run past, you can save yourself with your reflexes and aim. Actually being a better player tends to work out in normal, whereas HC is sadly where the shitters tend to congregate so that the one hit out of a 30-round mag they do manage to land can get them a kill.

I don't really know where my loyalties lie as I like elements of each, but HC seems to normalise the bell curve a bit. If someone's successful in normal/regular/core/whatever we're calling it now, it's because they have an understanding of movement and positioning and flanking and are able to get more shots on target in a smaller amount of time than it is because of the floating triangle bullshit. If someone's successful in HC it's often the case that they just found a sweet spot to set up with their DMR and managed to get one shot on target after missing you 19 times.

Normally those people who just camp in corners only get me once or twice, because once I know what spots they are using they are generally toast every time. The only occasional exception to this is fucking Scrap Metal or whatever. 4 people can pretty much dominate the top of the map camped out sniping. I've had a few matches where after dieing 6+ times to the same guy sniping I still couldn't figure out where the hell he was leading me to believe something cheeky might have happened.

Generally I really like HC though. I can't go back to normal, it just feels off

I play both modes depending on my inclination at the time. When I really want to get absorbed in the game and focus on it exclusively I play hardcore and use more intelligence. When I want to play while listening to a podcast or thinking about something else, I play normal and go Rambo for the most part.

My game freaks out and looks like my gpu is failing when I play the game now. Every other game runs fine but not good ole bf3....typical. Probably the drivers. My 670 is barely oc'ed at all and runs a heavily modded skyrim all day. temps at 71C in bf3 and skyrim.

I have. The battles are so much more epic. I can deal with the bugginess of PS2 right now, its no worse than BF3 when it came out. I do miss the semi destructable environments of BF3 though.

I agree with this 100%.

play more hardcore :) its more balanced in that way

Hardcore in my experience has never been anything other than a daycare center -- the main hangout for trolls and griefers .. Took 20 minutes sometimes just battling own team before you even got to fighting the enemy team, what with all the TK'ing, TK'ing for vehicles, ghost riding, etc. And then there's the whole !punish, !forgive server-side script bullshit that get abused by these children. Somebody gets blasted by a friendly tank or aircraft round because they decided to jump into the line of fire with say a swarm of 10 enemy on Hilltop Caspian, they get hit and its boo effing hoo with the !punish.

Lot of good times in BF3 but, in general, one of the worst "communities" I've ever encountered in any game, Battlelog forum is no greater proof of that. Unfortunately almost no one on my friendslist seems to play anymore, and haven't in 4-6 months, whenever I log in for a few minutes hoping to find someone on since playing with pubs is a test of nerves, especially if you're a vehicle whore like me.

Find a few good servers and stick with them; I have a few good ones, play HC only, and very rarely deal with TKers.

I honestly don't think I get TK'd too much either. I mean sometimes shit happens, and sometimes I'm a dumbass and walk in to a line of fire, but for the most part if you aren't walking around blasting your team I don't really see that many TK's.

I generally play Close Quarters

On my capped-speed Internet at the moment (256kbps), the update won't download...it just sits there at 0% and a 0K download rate. Does Origin require a minimum speed to even download or something?

No idea but I am going 1.75- 2mb per sec atm. Going to take about 46 minutes total.

Servers are up with some new maps. Nobody in them. Must have just popped up.

Try to join one and it says you need to dl and install. I just did that. restarted origin. Nothing yet. Must still be initializing the system or something. They are playing it in europe though.

Yeah I will vouch for those. Polite and friendly is a well run server. They mean it.

I have had to download several multi-gigabyte patches the last few days. Something tells me Origin is messing up and re-downloading Aftermath each time I start it.
