Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Could you guys PM me with the names of some of your favorite servers that are populated. I am having trouble finding good 64 player servers. Specifically I am looking for a server with a community and some teamwork.

Actually I would be interested in any server where the game is being played as intended as long as there is some kind of map rotation.

I was playing on a server called " Nice and Friendly 2" but it died out recently. Perhaps my filters are set wrong I will try tonight.

Post up your filters if you don't mind. At any given time of the night I can find a server to play on that's pretty much always populated.

Yeah I've never had a problem finding a server thats full or almost full. Search for your game mode and set free spaces 1-5 or if you're playing CQ add 6-10 to the list and you'll find enough servers to play on

I play on the Hostile Takeover servers pretty regularly, they are always populated, Pretty good for EST players. Only downside is they don't stream to PBBans, and their clan founder is a cheater

But otherwise, solid rotation. lol

I think it's more-so that the majority of the players don't experience cheating so they show apathy to the vocal minority that do.

Also, You know what I do when I get jet raped? Switch servers. I learned that back in BF2.

never bothered with vote-kicks because people just don't like to vote. <insert election reference/metaphor/joke here> :)

I think the problem with the vote-kick system is that it's practically non-existent in BF3. Some servers run plugins, but if it was tied into the actual GUI like other MP games, it'd get more use.

DICE phoned it in on the traditional multiplayer stuff (spectator mode, voting, voip, etc).

I've been looking to join a solid competitive clan for a few months now but I would never even consider playing on a server of a clan with a known cheater as a leader. F that.

I'm always on HT servers, especially on their 24/7 Karkand server. They've been my go-to servers ever since another server banned me for going 10-3 with an EMR.

Just posted up another Weapon Review. This is my 6th review, and the first one I've done for an LMG, so I decided to do one of my favorites, hope you guys like it!

you got banned for going 10-3... That server must end up banning a ton of people. Yes thats a great KDR, but it's a pretty common one.

Yeah, thought I don't play often (rarely) due to the sound issue I have, when I do try to play, it's almost always on an HT server.

That was a particularly good night for me. I think one round i was 70 and 15 on the same server. I also think I killed the admin one too many times.

Got to love when that happens. Kill an admin a few too many times then you just get kicked.

So I've been bored enough of mmo to venture back to FPS land.
Was going to pick up COD FLOPS 2 but it seems like a cluster F with poor surround support (2.5 monitors anyone?)

Any how, is it too late to pick up this game and join in on the fun or are n00bs getting slaughtered left and right?

Also,
Am I in correct in seeing that the BF3 premium edition is the one to get which includes the original game and all 5 expacs for $60 on origin?

While there are definitely some advantages to all of the unlocks and different guns, mostly it is on the margins. The default guns with ironsights are just fine; in fact it's mostly a matter of preference and playing style, really.

I will say a lot of the BF3 style of mil shooters don't seem to have core FPS skills; small area tactical movement (dodging), "slicing the pie", etc. So if you're decent at FPSs, you'll do fine.

+1 this. When I started BF3, it'd already been out for a little bit, and people were already colonels. I was still hitting MVP as a lowly rank 1 though, due to my history of competitive CS.

I haven't played BF3 in seven months though.

I really wish more attention had been paid to rush mode. I know the purists hate it, but it is by far my favorite mode. 99% of conquest maps turn into ring-around-the-rosie; constantly capturing and recapturing the same points. I enjoy attacking and defending somewhat fixed positions, but the maps generally just aren't made in an optimal way - primarily favoring the defense, but in some specific instances they will favor the offense. I'd like to see larger areas made open on each segment of the rush maps, to allow for greater manueverability and more players (64). Make each stage 4 MCOMs, but only require 3 to be capped to advance...this gives attackers options, spreads out the defense more and gives each stage a bit more gameplay variability. Too bad there are no mod tools. :(

Bad Company 2's maps were much more suited for Rush. In BF3 most of the Rush modes seem to have been hastily thrown in.

Yeah rush is where it's at. Even noobs eventually understand their role in that mode.

It's much more stick/carrot to me. I take out or defend a MCOM, I feel rewarded. I take or defend a flag, and 30 seconds later it's flipped anyway.

Tried out some CODBLOPS 2 today. Dear god. Travesty doesn't even begin to describe it. Made me appreciate BF3 SO MUCH! Even though my audio constantly crashes in BF3, it's such a better game it's ridiculous.

There is a deal you can find in the hotdeals section where you can get BF3 Premium edition for $30. Check it out.

Agreed - so much more dynamic. And way less twitch-gaming.

If you're having audio problems I will ask if you're running onboard audio. It seems to have problems then a dedicated card. Creative and Asus seem to have less issues.

In my case it's always been a case of me and one other player dying endlessly trying to hit the MCOM while the rest of the team sits back farming their KDR, whereas at least on conquest one or two competent players can have an impact or turn the tide. Except on Damavand, what a pointless map for CQ.

Is there some jet hack that is allowing people in jets to easily kill infantry? I'm getting like shot from full health to death in a short burst all the time by jets on that snowy mountain map from like impossible angles.
These jets do not belong in this game and they totally ruin the meta balance. They're allowed to slow to blimp speeds without stalling out to shoot someone and then speed off like nothing a few seconds later. You cannot hit them with stingers, they'll flare it away once and then fly off, no matter how many people you have shooting stingers and anyway why should I have to depend on other people to set up shop with stingers all over the map when all it takes is 1 person in a jet working alone to kill me. If they really wanted to make it realistic they should've made the A-10 and it's counterpart as the only air support planes, atleast they have realistic speeds.

I've had to deal with some people recently that would actually go about 60-1 in a jet. They pretty much can't die. And they can snipe you across the map with machine guns... yeah bullshit haha.

The most i've gone in an F-35 was 35-1. I was American and their pilots were awful. I think I took down 8 attack helicopters over the course of that game along with a few jets and various ground targets.

Yes actually. I'm running onboard Realtek 7.1 with my ASUS P8Z68-V Pro/ Gen 3 motherboard. Both MOH:Warfighter and BF3 have audio crashes (game still runs, but sound in the engine just stops). Audio outside of the game works fine (IE: BF3 audio crashes, but I can still hear anything else running on my computer: system alerts, music, videos).

It seems to be specific to the Frostbite 2 engine. I re-installed Bad Company 2, to see if it was a problem with Frostbite 1. BC2 worked fine though, no issues.

I swear to god I've ran into two people like this the probably 10 matches I played that had vehicles. Funny though, the guy that was 60-1, his team still lost.

I know it's believable because I've seen it plenty of times also, very frequently the past weekend, but I mean is, is it legit. I can't even see the plane one minute and the next minute I'm shot dead and left wondering how the fuck is it possible that he killed me dead on in one pass.

Does anyone know the release date for Aftermath?

following the usual schedule it would be:
PS3 Premium: 12/4
PC/260 Premium: 12/11
PS3 General: 12/18
PC/360 General: 12/25

No idea if they will adjust it due to Christmas

I would think they would kick it ahead of week to do:
11/27
12/4
12/11
12/18

EDIT:
looks like I was right based on BL and some tweets from @battlefield

@mrlux It did not. PS3 Premium members get it on the 27th of Nov. Premium xbox and PC on Dec. 4th. ^JW

You should look into getting a dedicated sound card. Most people I have read that have had audio issues almost always are using onboard realtek. But when you use a dedicated card they have almost no issues.

If you use headphones you can get a Xonar DG/DGX for like 30/40 bucks

I just read on battlelog that PS3 premium is now 11/27. That would make PC 12/4 would it not?

for 40 to 60 you can get a USB DAC that will blow those away

HM-101 USB Dac by HIFIMAN EXPRESS
E7 USB DAC by FiiO

As an Amazon Associate, HardForum may earn from qualifying purchases.
I may get a dedicated sound card. It's hard to justify it for one game, but seeing as Frostbite 2 is proliferating throughout the EA lineup, I may come across another game that I can use to justify it. : )

(Also, turns out my lady bought me some Corsair Vengeance 2000s for christmas, so I can just use those and shut off the onboard.)
