Battlefield 2: Pros and Cons

heres one specific complaint I have. i was playing as commander of my team, the other team was down 2 players at one point, I died, and was switched over to the other team, leaving the other team commanderless. very gay. auto balance should NOT switch over a commander.
yes i've had this happen to me too, very very annoying. it should not switch you if you're commander or on a squad at all. What you were on a squad with your clan, then you got switched? that's just wrong...

this needs to be fixed asap

I can agree that a commander shouldn't be switched, but it should be able to switch you if you're in a squad. What if your whole team is organized into squads? Not likely I know, but it's possible. In that case it would be unable to even the teams.

Really? cuz the quote i saw said "Full multi and single player support" not "you n00bs need to get a real intarweb."

Given that the AI was upgraded, and I can join someone elses SP game as a coop shows that the netcode for the AI is there. Ya know what that means? It means they were going to support it at some point but just dropped it.

They haven't "always" said it was going to be an MP game, so don't even try to tell me that.

Their original thought was to construct the games SP as they did with previous games, but they cut it because they claim only 2% of the servers were actually coop. Nevermind all the coop servers that are actually out there, and the fact that there are SP only mods for people to play.

As with the rest of the game, they took some of the communities suggestions, used them, and ditched the rest of the community. This is an EA staple, and its sad that DICE had to start playing that ball.

Sorry, this is a MP game first, just like all BF games have been. SP is an after thought and is the weakest part of the game, it has always been stated like this.

in that case then it would make an exception, but only in that case. I'm sure its possible to impliment.

True, it should look for lone wolves first, and if none exist it should pull from squads. It seems like it would be the most effective way to keep the teams fair and keep everyone happy at the same time.

maps are decent. Biggest complaint i still have is the same I had with the demo. Cant remap controls at all STILL. All i get is the duplicate error, and its crap because not 1 single default key resides at the "delete" key, which is what i always remap reload to.
Being left handed I have never ever played the default way, I use the left hand on the mouse and right hand on the arrow keys and use the surrounding area to map out. So far no luck, anyone has a workaround, I'd be interested to give it a go. ;)

Workaround

"Making the weapons too weak makes the online game suck. If you sneak up behind someone and start shooting, they shouldn't be able to turn around and shoot back."

Modern Armmor is way stronger now dude:)

So are modern bullets:D

Pros:
Good performance considering draw distance and amount of activity
Infantry combat is fun and vehichles support infantry combat, not the other way around
Well made, balanced maps
Comes on DVD
Every class has a purpose
Aircraft are easy to control so almost anyone can start flying right away without much difficulty

Cons:
Assault class is basically useless - spec ops have a better scope and C4 is SIGNIFICANTLY better than a smoke grenade
Shadows could be a bit better
Spawning 1 inch in front of an incoming tank and then dieing 0.25 sec later is NOT fun
When you're tossing down C4, if you get too click happy you'll blow yourself up
Intro movies (at least there's a work around)
Stupid integration with Gamespy and external server browsers won't work with the game (supposed to be patched)
Weapons are a bit random

Damage to helicopters is completely unrealistic. No helicopter can fly away after direct hit with 120mm tank shell. In BF2 it takes *3* direct hits from a tank to down a heli. Bloody ridiculous. Desert Combat got it right, 1 hit from a tank to anything that flies usually kills it.

That is one of my biggest complaints about the game since tanks are my favorite vehicles.

I shot a helicopter twice (Both were hits) and only ended up getting an assist after another one of my teammates finished him off with a rocket.

Uhmm...that is what an assist is. You set it up, someone else finishes it off. That is what you described....you described an assist.

I think he was complaining that a 120mm tank round (2 of them) did not cause the helicopter to crash in a ball of flame, not that he got an assist.

Exactly.

It shouldn't have been an assist. The helicopter should have never survived past one round, let alone two.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned in the thread yet, and I'm not sure if I view this as a pro or a con, but it seems like the voiceover just doesn't give a shit.

Maybe it's just me.

And they paid the guy $300/hr to do it, too.

They should have gotten R. Lee Ermey to do it... especially when the commander voice over is yelling at you to work harder. I am sure he would have been down for that!

pros
great graphics
fun fun fun

cons
single player mode
maybe I don't know how to adjust it but it looks like max 16 bots for single player
i don't see how to adjust time, unlock weapons, etc on sp maps

INTERNET interface
a lot of zero pings
when scrolling the list hangs up
no favorites list or history

getting ammo
commanders never drop it ... and i request it many times
sometimes u will get it from a supply guy
best way to rearm is to pick up a kit u dont want or die

i think u should be able to rearm and heal at a spawn
also, supply crates should show up on radar .. can never find the thing if u dint see it drop

hate how its instant death when u crash a vehicle into the water
also if u stand on a vehicle and it moves .. your dead

also i do have the occasional crash to windows ...

its a great game .. glad i bought it ...

It's just an FPS. There isn't a charge to play online.

Another con...

-You don't seem to have the ability to switch positions in the vehicle anymore (Ala BF42 or DC)

You change positon in a vehicle, hit the F buttons at the top of the keyboard. Like F1-F4 will do just about every position in a vehicle

He has been told a few times already in this thread. :p

Biggest con for me: Too easy to TK/kill yourself with vehicle. I got out of a car on a slope and the car instantly slid down and killed me with a nudge.

One time I ran up behind a supply crate that was on a slight slope and ducked down to avoid incoming fire...and the crate slid back a tiny bit and killed me. :(

These random crashes to desktop are making this game more frustrating then fun.
Even after a format and reinstall of my OS and BF2 they are still present. Just plain unacceptable.

All the same things I disliked about the Battlefield series so far, is still there in this one. Engine is sloppy, weapons are underpowered/inaccurate. This edition certainly looks better, and is a bit smoother, but it hasn't quite hit the mark yet. I may buy it, but I'll wait till the "awsomeness" of has worn off.

Create a mod for the weapons then. :)

This is hands down the most balanced I have seen the weapons in a BF game. I think the DC team really helped with that aspect.

I have to agree with you, it is better, but I like DC a lot more. As far as making a mod for this, I don't really have the desire, time, or skill to make one worth playing.

Jets always take 1 hit to destroy with the tank, and helicopters i've always seen destroyed with 2, never seen one take 3

As much as everyone hates BFV, I think in some cases damage was a bit better as for Tank vs Helicopter is concerned. Generally it seems that 1 tank round messes up a helicopter pretty bad and IIRC will take one down in most cases. I think the damage would be fine if:

1= Small arms remain the same, maybe a slight increase on the .50 cal sniper rifle.
2= Tank main cannon damage increased
3= Helicopter and airplane armor reduced (helicopters large factor, aircraft marginally)
4= Reduce damage caused by slow moving vehicles
5= Faster yaw rate on helicopters (IMO)
6= Better TK rules. I think we all agree on that.
7= Faster reload on stinger missiles
8= Increase in damage on Anti-Tank weapon
9= Audible warning when you are a gunner or passenger in an airplane or helicopter and the pilot bails out. *damn I hate getting killed because thepilots wants to jump out over a flag and I'm too busy shooting*

You can't increase weapon power and decrease armouor, you may as well shoot papaer targets.
And although i agree that a helicopter would prolly not survive a direct hit from a tank's main cannon, that's not exactly going to happen anyway, so it's not somehting they can test extensively. And btw, attact helicopers like the Hind, Cobra, Apache etc are all designed to be the air equivalent of tanks anyway, hence the name "gunship". Because you can't eject from a chopper in an emergency they're designed to withstand a high-speed crash landing and still alow the pilot to walk out. One fagging stinger missile is not going to take out a helicoper gunship, tbh. They wouldn't exist if it could.

Actually there are some choppers such as the The Kamov Ka-50 Akula that you can eject from.

One of the most unusual features about the Hokum is its K-37-800 rocket-assisted ejection seat system manufactured by the Zvezda Research and Production Company. This allows the pilot in an emergency to actually eject from his helicopter. The ejection sequencing includes explosive separation of two out of six of the main rotors immediately before the seat is ejected. The system consists of the seat, control unit and a pullout rocket motor. It provides safe ejection during inverted flight (at speeds 0 to 330km/h with zero vertical velocity) at a minimum altitude of 90 metres. The pilot is ejected in a maximum of six seconds. The seat is unique and is the only single seat attack/anti-tank helicopter in the world so equipped.

Didn't read Black Hawk Down, I take it? They were taking out helicopters with RPGs, by aiming for the rear rotor.

Anyway, even if a single man-portable missile can't take one out, certainly a round from a tank's main gun should be able to put one down.

Helicopter are not the tanks of the sky that most people thing they are. The parts that make a helicopter fly are all very much exposed. Helicopters usually give off a rather large heat signature as well, so it is easier to lock onto them.

The whole benefit of a helicopter being able to hover, is also its greatest disadvantage, as it is then a sitting duck.

It is true that new cobras are using a covered tail sections to cool the exhaust before expelling it, to lessen this problem. The new cobra is also much more manuverable then previous helicopters as well.

Exactly.

A single stinger can take down almost any aeronautical vehicle in existence. There are a few exceptional airframes (Such as that of the A-10) that can withstand punishment, but no chopper can.

A 120mm tank round would fucking annihilate any helicopter in existence and still not slow down for miles.

And dudes... I just got flamed in my other post for complaining that stingers were too weak...

All in all, BF2 still rocks with all these minor "bummers" in my opinon...

bf2 is fun IF I COULD GET ON A SERVER

theyre all either full or they crash after i do manage to load

Use the in-game server filter to exclude the full servers. That way, only open servers will show.

Ya the A-10 is a little different. Armor was a major design factor right from the begining. They wanted the thing to fly slow so they needed it to be hard to destroy. Hell they have gone so far as totally enclose the cockpit in Titanium now.

Battlefield 2, in my opinion, is meant to be only semi-realistic. I'm glad that everyone understands that a tank round would destroy a helicopter or one stinger would take it down. What you have to realize is that it would be absolutely 0 fun if after finally managing to snag a helicopter you were shot down by one stinger, especially when on 64 player servers your instantly lit up like a christmas tree. Dice and EA made a game that is based off of reality but not bound by those rules. So please do not bitch and moan about how in real life they would die because your paying for the game to play in their world, not the real world...

You make an excellent point! And I agree, as a whole, that this game is freakin' fun!

Why would you wait for the awesomeness to wear off? So when you do eventually get the game it'll be boring..?

Also, as a guy who almost automatically takes the Anti-Tank infantry guy, the fact that it usually doesn't usually kill in one shot makes the kill that much more rewarding. You get a little surprise each time the thing actually wastes a vehicle.

No, I'm just addicted to the game. (and I got some head stash.)

But yeah, I enjoy the wire guided mayem in the right circumstances. I'm learning that if you are smart, you'll take other dead guys kits when it suits you anyway. Dead medic? Just take his stuff and revive him. THen switch back. Or need ammo? Pick up that dead support guys stuff.
