The game is out now at many places and I was just wondering how everyone felt about it. I'm still playing the demo (My full-game is still in transit) but there seem to be a few things that stand out as good and bad with the game.

Pros:

-Teamwork actually pays off now (Rewards for assists and medical care are given)
-Good graphics for a game that supports as many players as BF2 does.
-Wide-variety of vastly differing classes to choose from.
-Improved physics engine
-Semi-destructable environments (Most of the things that can be destroyed don't seem critical, though...)
-Commander mode has a lot of potential
-VOIP

Cons:

-Helicopters and Airplanes control terribly. It is especially frustrating in the planes because they are fast but they aren't very maneuverable.
-Friendlies are always displayed in blue. This is good for those who are new to the series but everyone else is going to be confused at first (I killed 3 or 4 MEC players because they had blue tags...in BF1942, the Americans always had blue and the enemy always had red).
-Most weapons are extremely inaccurate.
-All weapons are underpowered.
-Aiming the weapons feels awkward and jerky.
-Jogging speed is too slow. It should be in between where it is now and the Spring speed.

Overall, I'd say the game has a lot of potential. As it stands, it seems very...average.

I agree about the planes. I don't even bother with them becasue of that fact.

It would have been nice if they made the map a little bigger for the Jets. Like a Zone that wasn't in the "AWOL" area for Jets but was for Everything else. Just so you could actually make a turn and really get lined up.

I disagree about the weapons...they're plenty accurate, and powerful enough. I mostly use spec ops, and their gun will kill just fine at a range of 100 yards with 1 or 2 headshots. Making infantry guns too powerful is a sure way to making online play suck.

Making the weapons too weak makes the online game suck. If you sneak up behind someone and start shooting, they shouldn't be able to turn around and shoot back.

Grenades are much weaker. You pretty much have to roll them right up to a standing target to kill anyone. Where's the shrapnel?! The grenade launcher is like shooting firecrackers out of the gun. Pretty fun... but harmless.

I hit a tank 3 or 4 times with an anti-tank gun before the tank got me. Uhmm.... I thought just one American anti-tank round would kill a tank. And it was from behind if that matters anymore.

Anyway... keep the patches coming and it could be pretty fun. Otherwise I agree... it's average. And BF42 is MUCH funner.

I've been playing all night Circuit :) Gotta work tomorrow.

The AT class is a prime example of how weak the weapons are. It takes about 4 rockets out of a kit of 6 to destroy a tank.

The Spec-Ops gun is another good example. I put five shots into the torso of an enemy and he lived long enough for one of his companions to kill me.

I prefer Desert Combat Final to this, but I do see the potential in BF2. I had a blast playing in cohesion with my squad tonight.

It's just an FPS. There isn't a charge to play online.

Another con...

-You don't seem to have the ability to switch positions in the vehicle anymore (Ala BF42 or DC)

The biggest con I've seen so far is...oh, that's right, I haven't seen a con with the final game, since not one solitary store in the area has it, and some are saying as late as Thursday! Oh well, it's not like I was looking forward to it or anything......

F1-F6

I love the helicopters. I am addicted to teh AH-1Z and Mi-29, I have been flying them all day and never crash, even with only my mouse (sensitivity at 5.00). I have even figured out where to stand and hole E and get into driver's seat. I usually don't die unless the enemy is on all the AA.

this is a great release compared to when bfv was released. Anyone remember the deadly rambo m60?

Try adjusting your mouse settings, planes are nice and twitchy for me :)

Dano.

My final evaulation of BF2 is that it stands a great game, on its own. My problem, and from what I've read it's a fairly common problem, is that I went into it expecting Desert Combat 2.0. There are a lot of things that DC did very, very well that BF2 falls short on. The planes / dogfighting being the most obvious example. The more I play BF2 though, the more I realize that the game is very, very fun and also very well balanced. The infantry combat is head and tails above anything else in the Battlefield series, and better than many fps games that focus on it exclusively. It might not be what I was hoping for, but it's a very well polished shooter that will keep me busy for a very long time.

i don't have the full version yet but in the demo the planes feel just fine in the meneuverability department to me, heli's felt a little odd compared to DC at first but i got used to it and it feels fine now too.

Some classes such as assault take more hits to the body to kill because they have body armor. As for anti-tank - next time try to hit it from behind and it will take less, if you hit the front or sides it will take more as its more heavily armored.

Good points and I agree, however, the only destructable objects are bridges.

You might need to adjust your settings because the helos and jets are very controllable and better than previous versions by a lot.
I agree on the friendlies being blue, it gets confusing but that should change with a bit more exposure.
Weapons are just about right, I am glad they are not like UT2K4, go prone more and use burst mode at range.
Weapons underpowered? See above. Tank does need a bit of work though.
Aiming? See above
Jogging speed? Heck yeah, way too slow.

The accuracy of the sniper rifles should be increased.

I'm not too fond of how the jets handle, but that is because I try flying with mouse/keyboard. You can usually tell who is flying with a joystick as they can rack up some serious kill points.

I have said this before and I will say it again, a lot of the top clan players use keyboard and mouse for everything (I was shocked at first too). I have learned to use it myself and like it a lot.

It is amazing how easy the choppers are also. You can let off the controls when level and hover without touching the controls for a long time. In DC, you would flip and crash if you tried that.

Is it true that for long distance shots, you have to compensate for gravity? I read that it was supposed to be implimented but I have not heard a positive yes or no. Maybe this is giving the appearence of poor accuracy.

I think this is pretty cool. More realism/more skills to perfect.

Yep, it is in the game. And that is a very good point why people think aiming sucks.

The planes control fine...I can do flips and rolls upside down with just my mouse. The only problem I have is they go so fast it's hard to stay on the map. I can't control helicopters well but some people are awesome. I like when someone takes it and hovers over a flag to capture it and moves on to the next.

The weapons are very accurate if you switch them to single shot mode. I always switch to single shot when I'm in an open field or at a distance and back to auto when I'm close range. You just have to re-select the same weapon while you're using it to do it.

They also do plenty damage but everyone's wearing body armor (some heavier than others). If you hit someone in the head (not the helmet) it's a one shot kill.

Can't believe I didn't fiddle with the F buttons.

People do realize that it comes with a manual right?

It is that booklet with the BattleField 2 logo on it, look at that one, it isn't just another ad.

;)

Flying the jets is just frustrating. But that's just because I suck.

I think the infantry combat is good. Better than previous titles. One of the reasons I never played the others. They just seemed to be all about the vehicles. Now it seems that you finally NEED the infantry to win. Plus I don't feel so dumb running across the map. Yeah it may take a while but there is plenty to do in between. If you're Spec Ops, maybe you can just stake out and C4 a well traveled road. Or camp out as a sniper or anit-tank. Makes walking fun. I am pretty much a strictly infantry guy and this game allows me to have fun.

The Stingers... what the hell? What am I doing wrong with these things? I sat on one for near 10 minutes and only got 1 kill. This makes the helos seem a bit too strong. Anyone elses thoughts?

I have gotten a lot of kills using the stinger missiles, though I agree they are definately flaky.

One very annoying problem with them is if you lock onto an enemy vehicle...and a friendly jet or helicopter is anywhere near it, it will veer off course and hit the friendly vehicle...just about everytime.

Some good tips for using them..

When you get a lock on..don't fire right away, wait until they drop their chaff and then get a lock on again and fire.

Try to aim and fire when they are heading in a straight line away from you.

It'd be nice if they could make the Helo's as responsive as DC, and have auto-hover on a key.

It would also be nice if they completed the sniper system buy including some binocs with a laser range finder, and having the ability to set the angle on your shot joint ops style. The sniper rifles at hand need some tweaking as well... one shot from the m95 .50 cal rifle should kill anyone on the field as a 50 cal defeats any body armor in use... and both sides can use the rifle once they get rank.

I hope they add unlockable micro-assault rifles like an xm-8c or an armor defeating smg like the p90 for the engineers and anti-tank kits, because shotguns and an mp5 aren't cuttin it too well.

The game also crashed on me 4 times in the space of 6 hours when i first got it. I haven't had much time to play it since.

The game lacks a supported coop mode (even though you can manually join people's SP games) and the metric ton of singleplayer options that bf42 had.

But so far my biggest miff, is the lack of singleplayer support. everything else i can really live with as i think it'll get fixed or rebalanced. SP though, i can't believe they didn't think about the people out there that like to play bots or coop modes... especially when the bots are as improved as they are. I would think a lil bit of modding to the AI and it would be comparable to fightinng noobs, and with other players, it would probably be more fun.

I'm actually starting to get used to this game :)

I love messing around in the F35 ( american jet )...I racked up about 21 kills before I died yesterday :p I kept going to any iraqi base and lighting it up with my machine gun haha. Then I usually mess around with thier airfield and shoot anything down before they can get off the ground :p

The helo's are actually fun once you get over the fact that this isn't DC. I can still do a lot of moves, which is supprising. One thing I like is how the helo actually has a chance against a plane, unlike DC.

How about try hovering in a heli without losing altitude, now thats shitty

Now thats what i call a reply! I Totally Agree.
Hopefully dogfights will be better on bigger maps.
I was hoping they would have morters like in DC but i guess not.
:(

Mortars would be a nice addition.

From my view, the guns are pretty good. The only thing I don't like is that the Anti-Armor seems to be a little overpowered from my perspective. I like how they have a gun, better than just a pistol, but I commonly get killed by MP5s (most people seem to like this class) when I am assualting with the M4 in close proximity battles. I thought the M4 was more powerful or is it the anti-armor has more body armor?

Zero

I think the sniper rifles are ok as is. I get enough kills with them and if they were more accurate, they'd be overused. Everyone would be like "omg sn1pr WH0r3!"

AGreed but just a little bit I don't want people to be able to snipe from across the map

now my major Con. I haven't been playing online but in single player holy crap my team keeps running me over with tanks trucks etc! They don't stop they just power over ya!!!!

Few observations..

1. People are expecting DC 2.0 .. its not that.. so this is their first mistake.
2. Some weapons appear underpowered, but this probably balances the infantry classes out. If sniper rifles were the ownage, well why be anything else ? The game isn't even out yet (well today) and people are complaining that weapons aren't easy enough to master right off the bat ? (even demo)
3. Jets are hard to fly ... GOOD.
4. Heli's are a blast to fly and a 6 man Blackhawk crew is the shit.
5. Textures on high eat ram/cpu/resources
6. This was just a demo

Basically who wants a game you can master so quickly ? I enjoy the challenge of having to learn new things ... I really do think some people expected to load and login to BF2 and pickup where they left off in DC or whatnot... this is a whole different game, but shares the same mechanics.

Overall though I really like this game. I wasn't to thrilled about buying it until I played the demo ... and taking a step back this game is as close to simulated modern combat in a video game as it can get. I'm picking up my copy at lunch.
