BATTLEFIELD 1

maybe in another 5 years they will also finally realise that map $DLC is counterproductive and idiotic.

Not while people keep buying it.

But I'm confident that if they did remove "$DLC", you'd find a way to be on the rag about it. ;)

And I am confident that regardless of how shit, broken or exploitive it may be, you will still make your snivelling excuses about why its the greatest game ever shat out by DICE and that anyone who doesn't agree is just a hater.

At least he doesn't just shit on every new 'AAA' game in the GAMING section of the forum.
However, for this once I agree with you that BF1 is just completely rehashed/reskinned garbage.
I thought DICE would at least change the formula a bit, but nope, we get modern "combat" style gameplay with a WW1-esque setting - pathetic.

No he just gobbles them all up instead, and as much as it suits your narrow minded narrative that I hate all AAA games (probably because you are insecure about people indirectly castigating your buying decisions) the reality is that my ire is directed at a very small subset of homogenous and cynical cash grabbing shite from EA, Ubi and Activision.

Honestly Premium for BF3/4 was a decent deal. It could have been better (more vehicles + weapons) but it wasn't too bad. Lots of other DLC out there that is annoying, like Sleeping Dogs and Tomb Raider skins/weapons for $1. Though I suppose they aren't necessary in those games. Otherwise I agree with schoolslave on BF1. The gameplay needed some serious reworking. Or better yet, release a modern BF with more vehicles, some big gameplay games and not be broken for 1+ years after release. And ensure your servers don't go to hell when you release a patch and the like.

It doesn't matter how much value you think they add because ultimately map DLC is diametrically opposed to the community aspects which underpin the very nature of MP gaming. The impact is less apparent with blockbusters like BF3/4 because the very large upfront sales makes the drop off in players from DLC less noticeable initially, but look at any other game which quickly died in the arse like Titanfall 1, Battlefront, Hardline and every CoD after MW1 and a common significant factor is map DLC. I am willing to wager that if it were not for DLC then there would at least be some semblance of a community still playing those games. There is a reason why MW1 still has more people playing it than all the subsequent CoD games combined, and why the practice is being abandoned in some games, e.g. Overwatch and Titanfall 2.

:D bitching and moaning about DLC. if you don't like the practice don't support it. relentless bitching on a forum isn't going to get you anywhere.

Dear god we dont need ANOTHER modern war fighter. Its so boring and has been done before. You think that if they made BF5 and made it just like BF4 that it would sell good? BF4 was exactly like BF3 and im glad i got it for free because i would have been pissed to pay for that game when i could just play BF3 and get the same thing.

We got BF4 reskinned for BF1 anyways. Tanks driving around like sports cars and automatic small arms galore. Like I said, I would've taken a modern game with some big gameplay improvements over the same game rehashed in a dull setting. You're one of those people who get attached to the visuals and think because something has a different 3D model = different gameplay. Newsflash - it doesn't. DICE pulled a CoD (same gameplay, different setting) and you're drooling all over it. But that is how gamers are in general. Very easy to fool, and they absolutely fall for marketing gimmicks.

Just imagine if they put some effort into a modern sequel. Active Protection no long is a magical force field that stops MBT rounds or autocannons. Make suppressors work based on caliber giving SMGs a purpose. Add in some penetration/deflection values to the vehicles. Add sabots, HEAT and HE to the MBTs all with various purposes. Hell, they could even have put in some body armor mechanics if they can work it into gameplay.

Instead we get the same old room clearing sniper rifles because every 13 year old needs a catch all weapon to feel special about. And a bunch of automatic weapons because making people use a 5 shot bolt action would be too much of a change. What a massive change in gameplay. :ROFLMAO:

Well being as its a completely different war, it plays a lot different. Plus ive never been a fan of modern war fighters, they are so bland and boring. Always been a fan of the old school wars. Which is why I like RO2 so much. And yeah i think new 3d models can warrant it as a new game. What big differences were there between BF3 and BF4 other than new maps? At least this time around we are getting a whole new war thats never been done.

Well the issue imo is that they seem too afraid to let it play differently. From making bolt actions scout-only, the quick movement speed, over abudance of smgs/lmgs (especially considering most mg's were crewed and weight enough that you're not going to be running around while firing them from the hip).

I understand that they have to change things for gameplays sake, like the mg's and such, but it seems like they were just way too scared to really take ANY risks to changing the BF3/4 type of gameplay.

Look at BF1942 compared to BF2, look at BF2 compared to Bad Company 2, all three of them played/felt differently, in terms of movement, mechanics, etc. The videos for BF1, although fun, look a lot like bf4 in terms of gameplay and style.

At least they are adding complete destruction back from BC2. IMO BC2 was the last good BF and i hope this one plays like it just in the WW1 setting. I am more interested in hte WW1 setting than the authenticity of the speed of the tanks or how the guns work. I dont mind things being authentic which is why i play RO2. But i know a lot of people would complain about the difficulty of it. The younger kids would hate to be in a tank that only moves 5mph or having to reload after every shot.

It doesn't. Just watch a video. Again, you get hung up on artwork and not actual gameplay. The tanks work just like in BF3/4. Again, watch a video. There are plenty of them. You'll see them ramming buildings, near instant acceleration and the like. BC2 was a console based shooter with crappy shooting mechanics made with controllers in mind. It played horribly compared to 3/4. You have no where near the level of accuracy potential in BC2. Not surprising as its a sequel to a console only shooter. Anyone who praises the shooting mechanics of BC2 is likely a console player or can't aim properly. The horrid floaty, slow bullet gameplay needs to stay back in the early 2000s. It has no place in a modern PC game.

And RO2 is a game with an identity crisis. It borrowed too heavily from Battlefield while retaining some of the core gameplay features of the first game, which makes it play horribly. Plus a lot of other gimmicks. It is not the game the first one was, not by a long shot. Its a much more mainstream entry of the series, and with luck RS2 Vietnam will lean more towards the first but I have little hope for that.

Agreed entirely. I have yet to see a single bolt action rifle that is not scoped, which is what the vast majority of infantry used in the war. I would have preferred a slower pace if they were going with WWI. But it plays exactly the same as BF3/4. Anyone who actually watched a video for more than the scripted cinematic and explosion effects would have seen this.

BTW, check your emails.

Do you generally hate all FPS games or are you just a fan of hyperbole?

What's your ideal first-person shooter? Or has this game even been made yet?

Not trying to troll or anything, I'm just legit curious

Then wtf do you want in a BF game? Im sorry but the gameplay of 1942 will never come back, yeah i miss it too and had shit tons of fun with it but EA/Dice are taking the BF franchise in a different direction to make it more appealing to the main stream. If we had a period correct and realistic WW1/2 i would play the shit out of that too. You also forget that all the footage is pre-alpha. Were you in the closed alpha for BF3? I was and in the alpha you had the ability to deform the ground with explosions and the destruction was a lot higher and that was all removed from the final game. BC2 IMO was still more team involved, i always worked with my team to win on rush mode. In BF 3/4 it felt like everyone was playing an action hero and you were the star. And its a breath of fresh air to go back to a war we never have played and its obvious thats what people wanted. Look at the reactions to the new COD vs BF1. The new CoD is announced and everyone is like "meh" its just another futuristic shooter but this time you can fly rocket ships!!!! like thats never been done before. And then you look at BF1 in its WW1 setting. Its based off a real war so everyone knows the setting and its grittiness and we can man zepplins and shoot them down in biplanes. Again they still have months to make the tanks slower, remove the modern female voice, etc.

Just my luck, no alpha invite :(, have every bf game and everything and no luck. Congrats to those that got one.

ah that rings a bell. i remember seeing that in the middle of the workday, getting busy at work, and then forgetting about it. congrats to all that get in.

Many of us who have become more and more disappointed in BF1 the more they show want a game based off what they teased, a game set in WW1.

It would be a breath of fresh air if it truly was something different. Instead the footage already looks like more of the same of BF4. People wanted the setting because of everything it brought with it, guns included. Instead we get a modern take on WW1 like some alternative history game.

I am sure the modern gaming kids will end up loving the game while those of us who were hoping for something to relive the glory of COD 1, UO, and 2 or 1942 will continue to be disappointed.

I just wonder what the next game will be Vietnam using future weapons?

I think you needed to sign up as an insider AND pre order the game. All of my friends who got it did. The ones who did not pre order did not get in.

I did not preorder bc it does look like a bf4 reskin with hardline mixed into the swill.

So you think the same dev using the same core engine since BFBC2 will create something different each time they release a game in the same franchise?
Maybe you want the COD experience, fight on earth in exo-suits then fly out of space and have astronut MP battles at zero gravity. That's mixing it up.

BF1942>BF2>BFBC2 were all quite different in terms of how they played and the mechanics.

BF3/4 have went into a more CoD style fast-paced movement action and the videos for BF1 seems to not be as much as a deviation from that style as some people were hoping or looking forward to, expecting a ww1 jump to bring something new/different to the franchise that's gotten stale in its modern gameplay.

Its pretty obvious to anyone who isn't being intentionally obtuse that some BF fans are looking for something different in terms of pacing and mechanics, it has nothing to do with recycling the core game engine. The CoD experience typifies exactly what people are complaining about, its the same shitty experience repackaged into different settings with new art assets and bombastic scripted sequences. Every CoD I have tried following MW1 honestly feels and plays like a glorified expansion. What BF1 needed to offer was slower paced gameplay closer to its roots....e.g. reintroduce the stamina bar, fewer automatic weapons, no health regen, etc.

COD and BF has something in common since BF2, consoles. BF has been made to be easy to jump into. The stamina bar, fewer automatic weapons, no health regen etc. are for hardcore PC gamers.
Now, I don't agree with the consolification to the franchise, but my question to those that want the original PC experience with any multiplatform title, "Why do you continue to ask for something that will not happen?"

The last unquie experience was BFBC2, so my expectations are low going in every time. It took me six months to buy BF4 and I have been a day 1 buyer of BF for a while.

Bingo. I've already said plenty of times I would have preferred tweaking of the core mechanics in a modern setting, but if you're going to WWI then make it play like a WWI game. Essentially zero bolt actions and giving everyone automatic rifles that were build in extremely low numbers just isn't emulating that experience. You're getting the same thing as BF3/4. Even the sniper rifles still have the same crappy CS hallway sniper mechanics.

64 players I'm in just for that hell there might be a map just as fun as Noshar Canals or Operations Locker or Zavod 311 When you crank up the speaker and use a Tommy Gun it should be great since I'm sure it sounds identical to the real thing.

They killed of the BF mod scene because they believed that the mod community was creating content which directly competed with potential development avenues for the series, and then they basically ignore the fuck out of the segment of the player base who sought more realism and a greater challenge. Killing mods was the worst thing they ever did to BF, everything has been mediocre since as they no longer have any form of pressure to evolve from their own mod scene.

Imo, mods like Project Reality represented the best of what the series had to offer.

Project Reality: Realistic Gaming Redefined

They did all this in order to protect their intellectual property in order to preserve avenues of development, and perhaps they thought that it would help secure the future of BF. But all it really did was make players like me slowly begin to lose interest. I was psyched for BF1, but after watching some of the videos I'm just feeling left flat.

I think the biggest tragedy is that although people like me have seen the evolution of virtually the entire pc gaming timeline, younger gamers did not have the same privilege. When the industry started the dev's didn't have elaborate graphics to lean on, they HAD to stimulate your mind intellectually. When they finally got enough horsepower to add decent graphics to the games of that era we had arrived at pc gaming's sweet spot, imo. Now the pace of graphical advances has slowed, the intellectual challenge is de-emphasized, and dev's cater to the twitch crowd because it's the easiest / cheapest market to penetrate.

You won't build the games I want to play, you won't let modders do it, remind me again why you think I should buy your game? /truth is they don't care, because there is a new generation of gamers born every day and you don't miss what you've never known.

Point of Existence 2 was pretty bad ass too.

Quick story,

I was sitting in my brother's garage watching YT video's with my nephew and his friend who lives next door. His friend, a good kid, was brimming with pride as he showed me YT videos of him playing BF4 on his console. He would quick scope someone in the video, and turn to me just brimming with pride and a sense of deep accomplishment each time as he had "owned" someone. But the entire time I'm just thinking "console aim assist". I mean, I was glad that he was glad. But in the back of my mind I'm thinking that I would destroy his ass in a real game. /at least initially, until his skills develop.

The point is that he doesn't know what he is missing, that additional element of challenge. People don't miss what they don't know. The more that dev's dumb things down the dumber gamers will become.

Hardcore modes are my thing. I like the challenge of navigating a map without giant orange icons atop of every opponent, I like not seeing a giant blue icon atop of every friendly, I like that moment of indecision where I have to identify the enemy from off in the distance, that moment of hesitation where my mind confirms that I'm not about to mow down a friendly, and that moment I decide to go hot. Mods like PR and POE2 nailed that feeling. The easier it is, the more interest I lose.

I really do wish they'd have kept mod support :(.

BTW if you don't know the Project Reality guys are the ones behind the "Squad" game that's currently in steam early access.

POE owned so much face. I would play it today over BF whatever the hell this is now. Death of the mods equated to the end of the game for me. Just cannot get a good, competitive scene going anymore.

Just played some BFBCD2 Vietnam. The music alone is great. Just better game play in many ways. Slower. More teamwork oriented.

Reading the past few pages, I can share the disappointment. I was hoping for a slower paced game without modern aides (lock-on, spots, etc.). But this appears to be just as fast as BF4.

The automatics, fast paced running (no cool down), melee, and 3d spotting are a disappointment.

They made some decent changes to the scoring model (emphasizing objective/teamwork points over kills), just wish they'd try some different things with the rest of the game.

It is paced very differently from BF4. If you are looking for a change I don't think you will be disappointed. Also, plane dumb bombing is back in a big way!
