I will wait to see reviews and sorts..

Nothing in the fixes to indicate I really need to uodate. 5.6 will be fine for me.

heh, me too...looking, ooh, performance increases, my x800pro will....er, wait....

Enhancements to our driver's internal memory management bring significant benefits to 64MB and 128MB framebuffer configurations in Catalyst™ 5.7.

The resulting performance gains are most apparent in high resolution, everything on modes, when running applications that use a significant amount of graphics memory. Examples include:

* 5-15% gains in 3DMark05 on some products
* 20-60% gain in Far Cry Regulator across multiple settings
* 25-60% gains in Half-Life 2 at 1600x1200 4xAA 8xAF
* 40-60% gains in UT2004 at 1600x1200 6xAA 16xAF
* 50-100% improvement in Comanche4 at 1600x1200 6xAA 16xAF
* 50-200% gains in certain ShaderMark tests at high resolution

that sounds good.

Damnit.. I can only look at those projected performance increases and curse at my nvidia card :p

From what I've heard those performance increases apply to 64MB and 128MB cards. Those of us w/X800 cards can forget about those huge increases.

benefits to 64MB and 128MB framebuffer configurations

This does refer to video ram right? Too bad the improvements are at resolutions and settings I can't play at anyway...

Most importantly, 64 and 128meg cards should't be running those res's anyway.
25-60% increases in HL2.....Well jumping from 15 to 21fps is about 60% but it won't help much.

One of my friends played HL2 on a 9800pro. It was probably 128mb. And he's REALLY picky about frame rates.

When installing I had a really bad problem with the catalyst control panel part (it simply wouldn't install) and when I try and remove it, all the files were deleted but it stays in the control panel's add/remove software list. I'm going to have a thorough uninstall and driver/reigstry clean and redownload them, hope this resolves the problem :)

Well just tried two more times and I cannot get CCC working, there's no icon or anything, it's just in the add/remove software list. Is it possible for me to use the 5.6 CCC with the 5.7 drivers?

*EDIT*

Does 'Internal Error 2753' ring any bells? I can't find information anywhere for my problem, I'll try the drivers with the CP and if that doesn't work it's back to omega 5.4's.

Those percentage increases sound sexy.
They sound to me more like a blatant attempt by ATi to boost their benchmarking portfolio! The list of programs that benefit most from the 'improved internal memory management' (remember that old chestnut?) read like a who's-who of popular video card review benchmarks. I mean... 3DMark05, Commanche4, ShaderMark, SPECviewperf - how many of you guys are 'playing' any of them right now?

Don't think this is just me having a pop at ATi - I'll bet NVIDIA do *exactly* the same shit but this is just so....shameless. C'mon ATi don't be so barefaced about your benchmarking optimizations. Now c'mon guys - show me some real gains in real games! :)

n00b of chulak, they're not going to list each and every single game that performance will increase in. Note they said titles that use a large amount of graphics memory, which isn't limited to the ones they showed.

Brent! Can you save me from the perils that is my installation of CCC with this driver set?

Did you try the Catalyst Uninstall Program that you can download from ATI?

Go to where you download the Cat 5.7 drivers, there is a utility called "CATALYST Uninstaller", it's 300KB. Give it a whirl, to make sure everything is uninstalled.

Then re-install Cat 5.7 with CCC

I've tried everything. I've ran driver cleaner, catalyst uninstaller, third-party uninstallers, registry cleaners, wiped my temporary files etc. (all in safe mode) I constantly get the error 'Internal Error 2753. atishylx.exe.' (not sure if that's the exact right spelling). Looks like I may have to wirte a 'ticket' or something :(

But I bet a whole lot of people play:

* 20-60% gain in Far Cry Regulator across multiple settings (to some extent anyway)
* 25-60% gains in Half-Life 2 at 1600x1200 4xAA 8xAF
* 40-60% gains in UT2004 at 1600x1200 6xAA 16xAF

Ok this is me with the 'new drivers' apparantly

This is only recognition I get that CCC has been installed (ignore the previous two with the AVG icon next to them, I have no idea why they are there and have stopped bothering after two months) and I therefore presume I'm using the 5.7 catalyst driver set. I've downloaded the file several times to make sure there's no corruption and if i choose to 'repair' the CCC installation then I just restart and end back at square 1. There are no icons or files for this CCC and I have no idea what to do.
I've been on rage3d, google etc. and it seems I'm the only one with the problems. I think I may just go back to the 5.4 omegas.

Hah, I ran my old 6600GT & P4 3.0E at 1680x1050. Only thing that's different now is that I can actually have AA on without sacrificing performance.

Anyhow, my 3dmark05 score remained exactly the same, as well as my CS:S stress test score (give or take 1fps).

5.7 just corrupted some of my (agp).sys files and made it such that I could not see anything (black screen) when I came into windows, not even in safe mode, I had to recover windows to get it to work.

Be wary, even if it was just a horrendous HD failure at the same time 5.7 was giving me hell.

CCC is peachy under Win64

Not here. It installs, shows an icon...but when I try to access it....nothing. I can uninstall it and it removes the tab from the display properties too....

You install .Net Framework 1.1?

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...E3-F589-4842-8157-034D1E7CF3A3&displaylang=en

oddly enough it doesnt have Win64 under supported OS, but it does work, just runs like any other 32bit app until they release 2.0 which will have official 64 support. It will also come up with a window right before installing saying theres a problem with the build, and it gives a list of about 4 steps, dont forget to do that or it may not work correctly.

I'v had a bitch of a time figuring out a safe way to remove drivers, and the catuninstallers do not work correctly on this mostly because the build is 2 years old. Safest way i'v been okay with is getting Drivercleaner Pro, updating it, uninstall all the old drivers manually through control panel, rebooting in safe mode (F8 right before windows load screen), and running Driver Cleaner for all ATI related files, reboot again to normal and installing the CCC package. This worked without a hitch.

Actually you will find that we have improved performance for 64 and 128MB cards for many different games. The memory management stuff is not just specific to benchmarks. The reason why in our release notes we highlight benchmarks is because we can actually measure scientifically the improvments. We cant make statements about games without benchmarks becuase it would sound fishy. Imagine if the notes read:

Guild Wars is now faster
Lego Star wars is alot faster,
Sims2 is a bit faster.

you know what I mean?

Don't know why, but that version of CAT Uninstaller is an older build. There's a newer build available (6.14.10.1010) that's about 40KB larger.

At those res+AA settings with 64MB and 128MB cards? :confused:

Yeah, I see your point Terry. I've just learned over the years to be sceptical when you and your evil twin (who works for the NV Forceware team ;)) release a new driver promising huge gains that never materialise in the user's actual gaming experience. When I see some independent benchmarking by users and hardware review sites showing those same gains with playable frame-rates in real games (as opposed to synthetic benchmarks) then I'll become a true believer.

Hell, I'll even send you a beer for doing such a great job on the drivers. :)
