Tried this today, the BIOS update and DRAM training process remain tests of patience: the update process itself went fairly smooth and was able to apply the saved settings on usb drive, but ram training on expo took 2-3x longer than previously and initially kept going into a boot loop, then a window .efi missing file error on boot (didn't like that one bit), finally rebooted again where it seemed to train ram again for 2 mins, then threw the error again so I selected recovery but thankfully it just rebooted to regular windows this time around. Wtf is the process so arduous still (and one reason I have reduced updates to once in 6 months on my end)? And having to RMA memory or SSDs in this environment also means placing outrageous holds on credit cards for 'current market value' while the process plays out (should you need it), not fun...

Just applied 4005 to my machine (they had numerous updates for my x670E since Aug, some that remained in beta for a very long time, never a good sign for BIOS releases, others that had a lower AGESA than the prior beta indicating issues, 4005 was the first clean release in a few months) but this thing remains a test of patience even for experienced builders, they changed the sequence and tones the mobo produces when flashing and while it accepted my previous settings just fine, actually training and booting from it took a long time , then I got the dreaded winload.efi error after 3-4 automatic restarts, turns out it changed the secure boot method from windows to custom by default causing the issue. After 6 + years on AMD systems AGESA based BIOS updates suck even when things go right (would easily have wasted a few hours if it did end up corrupting my boot drive). So far my experience on the media rig with an MSI 860 board and Intel 1851 platform has been far more positive, for one, the BIOS updates are less frequent and the boot up after an update is much much quicker than on AMD systems. On the bright side, 2 years into this platform I can probably safely switch to a yearly update schedule unless a truly big issue comes to surface/needs to be addressed.🤞🤞🤞

Man.. I have pure problems with tuning when I run the latest. I get all kind of problems running anything written in the last year lol. I am back to 1.2.0.3a and it is smooth sailing.

I am only running this version because I upgraded from my 7800X3D to a 9950X3D and this was the earliest bios that supported it.. Glad I did not get X3D2.

I had this problem running some early hi-po ddr3 on my R3F. Newer bios versions were just problem after problem. Old bios, could overclock with 3 different kits of ram lol.

IIRC: memory tuning is a bit tougher in general, after the late spring/summer updates which change how bank refreshing works by default. It plugs a security hole. But...means certain sub-timings are either no longer valid or a lot more sensitive, etc.

You should still have the option to change it back to the old way for refresh. But, there could still be some other changes in the new BIOS, which still result in less wiggle room on timings. Even if you change the refresh mode back.
