looks like Ubisoft has released a patch before the game is even released...

Changes in version 1.01 include a tweaking of the controversial DRM scheme so if players are disconnected they will be able to resume their game exactly where they left off

http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/17456/Assassin's Creed 2 Patch 1.01 - US

looks like they also moved up the date of release to March 9th...previously it was scheduled for release on March 23rd

probably a response to their DRM failing and that they don't want people using the crack

but honestly

even if they had the perfect release

a $59.99 price point for a PC game isn't something I'm going to shell out cause I know it'll drop like a brick before long

honestly, this would of been a 1st day buy (even at $60.00) had they just used the same DRM as the first game.

oh well, hopefully they decide to scrap it in the future :( I've heard that it's a good game

This. Fail speaks the truth.

Honestly, I think I can live with having an internet connection required to play a game. Hell, I played WoW for 3 years which required an internet connection. Most of the other games I get the majority of my gaming hours from require me to be online (multiplayer, duh). I know the game is not multiplayer but that doesn't really change the root of my argument. I'm required to be online for most of my gaming, so so what if this game gets added to the list?

I very seldom *do not* have an internet connection anyway and in the odd event that I do, I have other single player games I could enjoy in the interim. I'm a huge anti-DRM kind of guy. Activation limits is my biggest hatred followed closely by 3rd party software (securom, tages, etc)

Besides, I'm going to pick it up for $10 tops 6 months from now so who cares? :D

The standard edition is $60? Are you guys sure about that? I saw some stores listing it at $50. I think $60 is too much for a PC game when the publishers don't have to pay a platform royalty to anyone... doesn't really make sense.

They're bundling two "free" dlc's with it.... as their justification for the $60 price tag, which is pretty insulting personally.

Day 1 purchase just became a Steam fire-sale purchase in 6 months :p

Oh well, I get to save my money!

I bought TDU for $7, and still found it unacceptable when I'd play single-player missions and they'd abruptly end with the message "connection lost to server - mission ending."

I agree...most people have always on connections and are just pissed off out of principle rather then any real fear of not being able to play the game...people can decide for themselves whether to buy the game or not but once the game is actually released I think you'll see a lot more people buying it...it's easy to rant against the game months before its release but it becomes harder when the game is available and getting excellent reviews (for its gameplay)

$60 is absolutely insane to begin with, how much of that cost is this bullshit DRM?

Sorry but the install limit DRM was bad enough now we have this shoved down our throats? The biggest mistake they made though was putting this on a single player title. Meaning there is absolutely no downside to just pirating it. I just dont get what they where thinking.

Gameplay be damned if you buy this you are telling ubisoft it is OK to keep escalating this DRM nonsense. Its already gone too damn far as it is this is just a big fuck you to legitimate customers.

Why the hell are PC games now priced at 59.99, they were much easier to purchase at 49.99, or lower.

They're not all priced at that price, just a few. If dumbasses hadn't paid that price for MW2 we wouldn't have to deal with Ubi following suit.

I dont think "most" people have a "reliable" and "always on" internet connection. Perhaps most [H] users do, but certainly not most gamers in general.

I dont have a reliable internet connection but have a decent gaming system (i5 750 system with a 4870). Its always on, but is pretty unreliable. On average I get a drop for a few minutes every couple of days, and occasionally it'll drop out for several hours (maybe once or twice a week).

There's still a lot of countries which might contain a lot of potential gamers but dont have reliable internet.

I honestly dont think this game will do that well, anyone who really wanted to play it would have already played it on console, DRM + $60 price tag is just nails in the coffin.

QFT brother. To this day I refuse to pay 60 dollars for a PC game that lasts 5 hours, no dedicated server support and more cheaters than you can count.

60 = too much for so little. No worth it.

I picked the first one up for the PC the following Black Friday for $10... I have no problem shelling out $50 for a good PC game, but for more then that as a reason I skipped MW2 and I didn't miss it one bit. I can afford to skip this until it's cheap enough and most of the DRM is removed.

With all of the good games right now, I have a back log of video gaming to do. As a full time worker, who can afford these games (because I work full time)... If I was desperate for a good game maybe I would consider it, but they are not the only kids on the block and I will not be paying console prices on a ported console game... You want me to pay $60 for a PC game, then it better be something that is well beyond the quality of a console port and well deserving of the extra $10...

Price notwithstanding this isn't good enough. At least we got some kind of movement on the subject but still not good enough for me to open my wallet.

This being reliant on the Internet concept, especially for an offline single player game, is something I'm not going to support.

Staying or a chance of being disconnected shouldn't even be on the table.

Exactly. And if dummies eat up Ubi's DRM release in droves, then other companies will follow suit.

And as someone who has never been in the "PC gaming is dying/dead" camp before, if that happens I will become a very firm member and zealot of said camp like this: :(

*does the happy cracked dance* Please continue punishing people who've bought this game Ubisoft and maybe someday you'll fail. Oh wait you already have.

MW2 was $60 on PC. It's absolutely ridiculous and I laugh every time I see it on the shelf. I will NEVER pay $60 for a PC game. Thank goodness I have no interest MW2.

I don't think this new DRM applies worldwide...in countries where internet access is not as reliable I'm sure Ubisoft will not require always on connections...for example I highly doubt that India or similar places with the lack of reliable, widespread internet access will be using this DRM

Its much more likely that they simply wont release the games to countries that lack reliable internet.

When you get right down to it there is no country with 100% internet coverage and the US is not even close. Rural US may as well be a third world country if you based it on the internet connection.

Ubisoft dont care, the stupid bean counters in charge are so out of touch with their consumer base. The fact that the morons actually thought this DRM was a good idea at all should tell you that.

So $60 bucks + bad DRM (I often get 1-2 minute disconnects; probably 3-6 times a day, very annoying) + 4 months after consoles?

MAYBE I would have paid $60 if they bothered releasing at the same time as the rest of the systems, but making PC players wait almost half a year is ridiculous. And then shoveling the bullshit that is this DRM at us is only adding insult to injury.

What's the word with this DRM saga on the rest of the interwebs and other forums? Are there many other people boycotting?

yes, I am boycotting, it's in my signature, I will also refuse to buy Starcraft 2, the next WoW expansion, and Diablo 3, any "Hero" franchise game, or anything Call of Duty, fuck em all

Make a stand. Don't buy it .... don't pirate it.

Only single-player game worth 60$ was the Orange Box / Half-Life 2 plus the episodes, when it was new of course. Spent 50$ on Bioshock 2 but beat in in 2 1/2 days, talk about buyers remorse. The bad thing about PC gaming now is this: if I bought Bioshock 2 for the PS3 and beat it, I could turn around and sell it for 2/3 of the price. But with DRM I'm stuck owning the PC game even if I never touch it again. Kind of sucks IMO
Just bought the new Prince of Persia for 6$ shipped, I'll wait for a similar deal for this Ubisoft title.

So back on topic. I just saw AC2 pop up on a torrent site fully cracked and working.

Good going ubisoft you sure showed them pirates.

I see that too, but it says you can't save your game in it. Those pirates got to get back to work. lol

Steam has it listed as released already.

Really, this game really passed me by I didn't realise it was out!

I'd imagine this will be fully cracked soon enough much like Silent Hunter.

Ubisoft attempts to use DRM as a foil to piracy have been an unmitigating disaster
