Yes. I remember seeing a review out there comparing the two if you want to see exactly how much. Shouldn't be hard to find.
Which would be a better upgrade? The battery or 4g ram for the 1882ix?
Better for what? Vague. For performance: 4GB module, unless youre planning on handling lots of >4GB files most of the time in which case it'll matter less. Also the controller doesn't care whether or not you have a BBU in terms of enabling Write Back caching - it allows it regardless and its enabled by default.
For home environmentna lot of people skip the BBU and mitigate the 'sudden power loss' threat by running off a UPS. That doesn't cover the PSU suddenly dying and a write not being flushed and that's a slim chance but you'll have to determine for yourself if the data is that critical - ie if you're just storing media files and/or you have a backup then you may not care.
I had 3 drives fail in a raid6 (or what I thought were failures) I guess they just dropped out as I pulled them and was able to see them in another pc. This happened while I was expanding the array and adding another drive.
I ended up finding the option "activate failed drive" so I activated all 3. But what I didn't notice was it wasn't done the migration process, so it kept going (from approx 98% on).
It finished and I saw this;
If I go back to the "activate failed drive" option, it doesn't show any drive.
I pulled the 2 slots and swapped them, then saw this;
[ul]
If I restart I get back to Image 1.
How can I fix this?
You could format the two drives and rebuilt the whole array, but you're risking 1 drive dying anywhere and losing all your data again.
Looks like there is a lot of card failing at 2yrs. I sure hope my 1882 last more than that for $900.
Does anyone know the difference between the T113 battery (listed for the 1280ML, etc.) and the T121 battery (listed for the 1882 in some places, and 1680, 1880, 1882 in others). I am trying to figure out if I need to return the T121 as well as the 1882ix, or if I can keep the T121 and use it with the 1260ML.
Thanks
Yep, finally.. was playing around with 1.51 earlier today, thanks for posting up the links. Successfully tested smartmontools is now able to see through Areca 1880 + expander to the SMART info of individual disks - not just passthrough disks but even those in raidsets, perform drive tests, etc. I tested with windows version of smartctl, using the following command to print all smart info for 1st disk of the 1st enclosure (expander) on the 1st Areca controller:
smartctl -a -d areca,1/1 /dev/arcmsr0
the numberic values in the example mean the following:
smartctl -a -d areca,<drive#>/<expander#> /dev/arcmsr<areca controller# ie 0 for first, 1 for second, etc>
That is where i am at. Disk management said i have to Initialize the disk, it ask me to pick Master Boot Record (MBR) or GUID_Partition_Table. I dont know which one to pick. Its 17TB raid 6.
