For those of you interested, Apple will be livestreaming its iPhone 7 event at 10am PDT. I guess I'll check in to see which rumors about the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 plus, iSight Duo, AirPod case, Control Strip, Touch Bar, Smart Button, etc. etc. come true.

How about those of us who are not interested? Should we just laugh at the announcements?

This one may be my first iPhone ever. Got tired of Android and got a Windows phone (Nokia Lumia 1520). Nice phone but app support sucks. I may be finally falling under the Apple camp. Never thought I'd say that.

They always say they aren't interested, yet they are always the first to post and start derailing the thread into a shitfest :)

Not interested in a phone that the only new feature is the removal of the headphone jack.

I'm not an Apple fan, but I'm always impressed how they can take minor tech improvements and make it sound like they just landed men on Mars. Scratch that, they can make something like REMOVING a standard feature (like a headphone jack) sound even more impressive than starting a Martian colony. Their marketing is the stuff of legends.

damn... just goes to show how uninteresting phones in general have become. Had no idea this was even happening today and I've been an iPhone user since 07

Unfortunately for you, using dated Robin Williams quotes belies true intellectual depth.

I am in the same boat as well, but hoping this announcement drops the price of the iPhone SE. I love the build quality of my HTC One M7, but Google's system of releasing new OS versions to the phone OEM, then letting them to decide if they should update existing models, then sending the update the ISP, then hoping they decide to release an update for your phone, then letting the ISP load the update with ISP crapware, then waiting for 6-8 more months for a release is complete lunacy and I'm done.

    Hmm.

    Two camera lenses?

Some sort of dual 3d VR camera or something?

Or maybe multiple focal lengths by using two lenses?

    Weird.

Sounds more like a gimmick than anything else though. They will probably sell it like the second coming of Christ. (or the 7th coming of the iPhone? :p )

I didn't have his quote in mind when I wrote it. Think you are so smart? How about bringing some substance to the discussion instead of belittling at what words people choose to use?

Well that opening with Cook doing carpool karaoke singing Sweet Home Alabama was cringeworthy. Let's hope we get something better than Super Mario on the app store.

Seriously Apple should the extra 50 cores that a typical Android comes with because that means better performance.

Really? Because I have a Droid Turbo provided by work and a personal iPhone and my iphone is superior in every single way. Battery life, speed, doing simple things like scrolling a page, accuracy on my screen, app loading times, website loading times. Everything. My droid is a piece of shit. Both phones are 100% bone stock using stock apps. So it literally is an apples to apples comparison. Don't even suggest that I root it, because I shouldn't have to, it just shouldn't suck shit out of the box.

The only nifty thing about it is I can wave my hand over the screen and it turns on the screen. Other than that its a huge piece of shit. Once I upgrade my phone I'm going to ask my work to make my old personal iphone my new work phone.

So its a gimmick on the iphone, but not on an Android?

    How is that better?

Complaining about Trolling an Apple Event on [H]ard: Easy
People complaining about people trolling a Apple thread on a PC Enthusiast forum... priceless.

I have an iPhone, always have in fact, tried Android at various times, just can't stand em, but this new iPhone is likely going to be a miss for me, I hate bluetooth, hate charging earbuds. Hopefully they don't drop the headphone jack...

Seriously, they made their brand on being a portable music player, seems to me apple is(has) jumping(ed) the shark.

    Are you not entertained?

    I had to :D

I don't know, so far I'm not sure what the point of it is. Doesn't seem to have had much of an impact on the G5.

Nah. Android used to have some real technological leads on Apple.

Back when Android had Copy and paste and Apple didn't, this was a big deal.

Back when Android had decent sized screens and Apple didn't, this was kind of a big deal too.

These days, who cares really. The differences are minor. Apple has higher end chips in their phones, but they don't seem to result in any real world difference.

My biggest selection criteria when I go phone shopping these days is the O.S. and how well patched it is. I'm happy to guy a slightly less than top end Nexus phone over a higher end Samsung/HTC/LG/Motorola or Apple phone because I know it will receive security patches at least monthly. Apple was pretty impressive with their recent IOS patch coming out very quickly after a security exploit was discovered, but they haven't been this proactive in the past so I don't really trust them.

Don't get me wrong. Monthly Nexus patching is still pretty weak. We need to get phones to where computers are from a security patching/update perspective, but as of right now, no one else is doing it better.

Yeah, I can't remember the last time I used a headset with my phone, but I would be peeved if the standard 2.5mm jack went away. I certainly won't buy a phone without one.

99.9% of my phone use time is talking on the phone, text messages or web browsing. (not in that order). I don't need a headset for any of these. on the rare occasion I want to play some music, I like plugging it into something with an amp and speakers. The 2.5mm jack comes in handy then.

I won't ever buy a headset I have to charge. Same reason I don't have wireless mice or keyboards or cordless power tools. If it has batteries I'm out, because they always seem to be dead at that moment you need them the most. Something you plug in never dies.

They don't even a USB port!!!! How is that possible?!??!?!

*I am interested in their reasoning for getting rid of the port though.....if water resistance is their reason, that's lame. So is the notion that lightning port allows for better quality sound.

The primary use for the dual lenses is for low light pictures. Since the distortion, focal length, position, etc is known, you can do math on the two images and remove some blur and do a lot to reduce sensor noise.

With the right system stats and software, you might be able to do some tricks with panoramas and other image stitching tasks.

If they can be forced to different focal lengths, you could do depth of field stacking for really broad depth of field. Not sure that is meaningful I'm such small sensors.

The reasons you stated is exactly why I moved from an iPhone to the Note 3, then back again once Android had zero competing leads over the iPhone. I think I'll stick with my 6S+ for a while.

In a office environment you see TONS of headphones. Where I'm at, I rarely see a headphone that doesn't have a cord attached to it.....but then again, the average age here is probably 35-40.

I'm actually surprised they would put a wall between themselves with the audience most likley to have liquid cash for products like this (the business professional).

yes, by far. Apple has a long history of leaving known exploits unpatched for months, and in some cases even years. They are also extremely opaque when issues are discovered.

I don't trust OSX or iOS in the slightest.

people THINK they are secure, but I maintain that Apple has some of the weakest security protocols and procedures in the software industry.

I'm not even going to google for you. You can do it yourself. Known vulnerabilities open for 2 years after they were published, Apples own Security lead criticized them after leaving in 2014 for not patching iOS vulnerabilities. The list is exhaustive.

Yes, Apple took a great stance against the FBI in the locked phone case, but the inability to unlock a locked phone is not the only aspect of security and vulnerabilities.
