AoC

Game is becoming frustrating. I'm hating nothing more then clearing to quests only to find out that they are broken.

ANyone getting close to 60 and find the game kind of... meh? Now before anyone goes "It's your fault for powerleveling through the game's content so fast.", I played a lot the first weekend but I never took a day off or any of that silly nonsense. I played about 3 to 4 hours a day after I'd come home from work and with a group I had no trouble at all completing quests.

I'm about level 58 now and my quests have dried up for the most part. The ones I do have are in a dungeon which is a hot spot for level 80s right now since there are decent drops that can be sold for cash. This particular dungeon isn't privately instanced so between the lv 80 farmers and other groups fighting each other and all that, this place gets old fast. The only other option you have is to do the old school grind which I really can't take anymore. :(

And as for when I actually get 60? Well, it gets way worse I'm told.

^^ thats my concern

AOC seems shallow some reason even though I like it's combat it seems it would get old quick.

Maybe because I already played WoW and MMO's are kinda blah it seems lacks staying power.

agreed. I am debating if I even want to go past 20 right now... it's just boring.

Yeah been hearing that upper level content is lacking still. They are aware of it and working on new quests.

Turn off 3d occusion mapping, and the texture collision problem should go away. At least thats what solved it for me.

The texture collisions were helped quite a bit by turning that off, but the poor texture rendering and lighting/color issues I have in some areas are still present. These issues are even present in SM2.x and SM2.0 modes. It's the 9800GX2's drivers I think. I've got a friend with an 8800GTX, and my girlfriends machine has an 8800GTX, and none of those machines have the issues that I do with the graphics. However clipping issues and bugged quests still abound for all.

I have the same problem as you as well, and I'm on an 8800GT, what drivers are you on? I'm using 174.74

Do you guys know of where I could aqcuire a buddy key or something of the sort? I've been a long time WoW player but AoC is really starting to pique my interest.

I would like to get this game but I have a few concerns. First off WoW was the last MMO I played and that was 2 years ago so I'd more then likely be a relearning the MMO experience . Second my computer isn't exactly up to date so I don't know if I could even play with the rig I have now. Finally I don't want to be playing a game that forces me to group up to do quests i enjoy soloing sometimes

computer specs are

P4 @ 2.9GHz
1.5 GB Ram
7600gt
plenty of harddrive space

You could run it, but not well. Aside from that, there are plenty of solo quests and several quests that are designed for groups. However many of the group quests I've done solo. To do those I simply have to wait until I'm several levels higher than what the quests' toughest enemies are. Once I'm there I've been able to go back into those areas and do what I'd ordinarily need a group to do.

I've played World of Warcraft and Age of Conan. Between the two I find Age of Conan FAR more engrossing and engaging. There is no comparison. One feels like its' for little kids and the other for adults.

Last time I checked, the buddy keys aren't being released to the public yet.

I have to say the only issue I've experienced so far is the occasional disconnect and version mismatch.

I had that problem a few times when I first got the game but Funcom seems to have fixed that. At least for me.

Not sure if you're aware, but the game was just released. Pretty much everyone is a noob.

That is not what the way I meant it. I was trying to call people that sit in OOC and bitch 24/7 noobs. People that instead of helping somebody new, will flame them. I have seen folk ask simple questions becasue they were new; just to get flamed in OOC channel.

I like the game, but I do not think I will play it too much longer. First 20 levels are fun, even though the areas are confined. Past that, game gets different, unpolished. Quests are not animated anymore, which is expected, but is a letdown. Quests also feel dry with the story lacking. Zones are still small and very very dry and get boring fast.

Interesting, for those that are thinking of not continuing after their 30-day free trial, what are the reasons?

I am playing 1 to 2 hours a day, my toon is lvl 24, soon to be lvl 25. I am mostly doing the quests. Are there instances in this game like WoW? I took awhile getting to lvl 24 in WoW so I am surprise the speed of my lvling.

One of the interesting observations I made while playing is that unlike WoW, where each area was set for a certain lvl, with AoC it's hard to tell what lvls are for you. Once I got out of the starter town, I went to my "home city" and took some but not all quests, some of them required me to travel to other places, which had additional quests, which required me to travel further.

I am not sure about the mechanics of AoC since I didn't play beta, but is it like WoW where once you get a certain lvl certain NPCs won't show up as quest givers?

Sorry for the slight rambling. My concern for the game, is that each area that I go to seems it has low level quests, which by the rate I am going, I would either have to start a new toon, or just miss them all together is this correct?

All in all, I was thinking of continuing playing AoC until WoW expansion comes out.

P.S. Is there any good loot out there?

Yeah its rather interesting how some of the quest in the starter town (Old Tarantia) send you all over the place before you even know your way around the town itself. I think the trick is simply NOT to accept any quests in the far away places. Just run back to Old Tarantia and keep doing those quests, eventually you are forced to go to Wild Lands/Tesso, then you can pickup everything there and its an appropriate level.

Well I've done many of the more simple and easy quests in areas that are a bit too high in level for me. But really I generally follow your line of thinking. I milk an area until its' dry, and do all the far away quests last. Those quests usually lead me to my next quest hub.

Just got a taste of nubs spawn camping, but atleast i was able to pick one off by himself. 2 healers a bear shaman / a PoM and a conqueror or barbarian. Sigh, they are now on my KOS list.

If anyone on Deathwhisper sees Phranq or Beeyah, kill them, as I will too. They are nothing by themselves.

So far so good, Age of Conan seems to be behaving just fine for me up to this point.
Great client performance, no patching problems, no crashing / instability problems.. even my server's performance is good (and not overcrowded or anything crazy). I have to say, I think this is one of the more (not most, but more..) smooth MMO Launches that I've seen in quite a while. ESPECIALLY for Funcom, given their previous launch was Anarchy Online and it was a disaster.

QFT.

Really the downtime has been minimal, and if you have the rig to run it, it runs like a champ. I've had zero crashes. A few bugs here and there, but overall it's been a great launch.

Now we just need funcom to start patching in the content.

Honestly I've been real impressed with the number of "break-fix" patches that Funcom has already released.. and we're not even a week after launch and they are already trying to address balance issues. While someone could complain that there is lots of "server downtime" from patching.. there are worse problems to have in an MMO.

Every patch fixes something, and they are doing a pretty fair job at the repairs pace. Only thing we could wish for now is slow additions of new content.

If they add new quests for 50 and up levels and fix and complete the crafting before the free month is up (next 2-3 weeks) FC will put themselves in a very good position. This imo is their window of setting a lasting good first impression. I say that because of WOTL and Warhammer are just waiting to seize a missed opportunity if FC drops the ball on this.

from the official forums:

We know right now people are feeling like all armor in Age of Conan is the same and brown. I assure you this is not the case, for along time now we have had a "GM area" where we spawned lots of NPC's that had all sorts of armor appearances so we could tell when art was completed. Good news. Theres a patch being released today as well. Funcom is doing a good job of bringing everything together in the first month.

Compared to other MMO launches I have been in (EQ, EQ2, WoW, DAoC...), so far AoC has been downright spectacular.

The biggest thing I hear my friends bitching about is that the game just runs like shit and does not scale very well on older hardware. While its fun and all to see the game on a higher end system, one of the things that keeps a lot of people playing WoW is the fact that is runs fine on pretty much anything, and still looks decent due to the art style (this is also why tons of people still play Source engine games too). Also the video options in AoC are poorly utilized and do not seem to correspond with the performance very well. Go put the settings on "Low" and the game basically looks worse than an original Playstation game. The default low setting should be something that looks a lot better than that

I dont think one month is enough time for them to fill out 45-80 with quests. Yes I ran out of quests at 45, I have nothing but repeatable grind quests left, which suck because thats all anyone else has too so the spots are camped. I just started playing mass effect instead and am thinking of canceling until they game stops sucking :(

The simple fix would just be to make the quests in the game give more experience. They could hotfix that in without much of a problem.

That would increase the leveling speed by about 400% at later levels, and also screw anyone who had already completed the quests. Perhaps making all kill related quests repeatable would help, instead of just the wanted posters.

MMOs always screw people who get things done first. Not to mention the really fast leveling people likely had an easier time since they did not have to deal with other plays so much. Now a glut of players is clogging up the repeatable quests.

Just to make sure, AoC is a monthly based subscription game right?

This might sound dumb, but higher level armor is just uninspiring, and kinda doesn't make me wanna level. I know the game is more realistic then most, but I do like the armor model of WoW; although, over the top they just look cool to me.

I think they just mean that until you reach the higher levels you'll have to wear shit that doesn't match and makes your character look like a douche.
