Anyone overclocking their 9070 XT?

it's kinda all over the place tbh. when at 100% gpu utilization 32 to 3300's. If under 100% though it'll just run at the game clock of ~2500mhz. In these current drivers they don't let you set the min clock, which is weird. I actually liked that feature a lot and was very usefull for me in the past.

*So looking at it a bit more right now - @ ~85% usage it'll do anywhere from 2500 to 3000mhz. when it gets to around 90% + is where it'll go to the max boost of 3100mhz and plus with the voltage tweaks. All of this is at a stable 60 fps with R&C: RA. This is not really all that precise, but it's a good estimate.
I'm figuring out the card responds to different titles in different ways. This is what my base model pulse is doing at -75, +10 with varying degrees of ray trace when possible:

Cyber Punk 3050
Diablo 4 3275
Black Myth 3150
Warhammer SM2 3125
3DMark Steel Nomad Stress on 20 loop 2950

I don't have RC but I watched the preview on steam and it looks fun. I'll get it and let you know.

R&C is a breath of fresh air to me and am finding it very well done and just fun to play. I had my reservations at first thinking it would be to easy or that it's a game made for furry fanatics lmao. I initially set the difficulty to the max thinking how hard could it be, it has been adjusted down a bit :)

Yeah man! That game is awesome! Gonna put that one on the TV for my grandson.

I have a dual monitor 1440 setup but games like this are about to make me buy a 4K for specific titles. I was pushing 300 to 400 fps at 1440 with FSR.

I think you have to look at a couple more games to get your feel for your card.

I've been at this for a long time and this is the AMD card that makes me feel as I did with the 9700/9500 set back in the day. I wish we had RDNA4 at the ROPs and unit counts of the 7900 XTX. at about $1K. AMD would have destroyed the market. We need our mf Halo yall :)

I honestly think amd did us a huge favor tbh. Those that payed $600 for some models got an absolute banger of a card for that price.

One thing I'm kinda po'd about though is why did they remove the minimum clock frequency setting in the drivers? I hope they add that back in in future releases. I'd much rather just set my min clock to something like ~3300mhz and max @ 3400 or so and call it good to go. Less fluctuation and a more probable steady framerate.

I would buy an 80 CU RDNA4 halo card if they made one. Don't care if it beat a 5090 or not but the extra FPS at 400 watts or so would make it a beast card.

Grrr... so I was hitting some dungeons in Diablo 4 and playing with ray trace settings. Got the card boosting to 3350 but it locked up. Down to -65 now.

For the gamers - this has served me well for gaming/daily driver:

Over a full round of Fortnite (finished top 3) - over 3000 MHz core clock average:

Messing with my ASRock Steel Series 9070XT. So far it has been pretty fun to mess with. Testing using Port Royal I got my best results with offset -140mv, +400 max frequency, 2780mhz memory clock(standard timing), +10% power. Lower offset or higher memory lead to smaller score. Not sure if I'll get a better score once I install my 9800X3D sitting in front of me, still have my 7700X in there. My 4080 Super's best score was 19230.

https://www.3dmark.com/pr/3337721 - 19594

My score at stock was 17885, so 9.6% increase with OC. Not bad for a cheaper model.

I've been watching a lot of '9070 xt vs anything & everything' vids on youtube. Pretty cool to see it get about 5fps less than a 5080 on Horizon Forbidden West at native 4k and max settings. Minus a few oddballs they generally perform on par with with a 7900xtx, plus and minus a few frames here and there. Now though you get a little better lame tracing perf and FSR4 support, kind of a win-win

They do surprising well in VR as well. I'm currently maxing out the resolution on my Quest 3 and hitting 60+ FPS with good visuals in MSFS 2020 over NYC at low level. Very impressive especially for an Amd release driver. 😁

After testing for stability, I had to dial back my voltage offset to -85 ...anything less and i would crash in Steel Nomad.

Speaking of drivers...I 'upgraded' to the newer one (Mar 20th, or w/e it is) and man what a shit show. Constant hitching and framerate all over the place and terrible feel all around. I rolled back to the release day drivers and everything is smooth sailing again. I don't know if something went stupid during install or what (seemed to install normally) but I'm gonna be sticking with these for now.

Digging the color coordination with the steel legend. Easily gives an extra frame or two. 😁
I went with orange on mine, easily a 5fps gain :p
btw nice routing with those water lines from the aio, I wonder if I could do that to mine on my other comp 🤔

So far my XFX Swift OC non-XT seems to be holding a -80 mv undervolt and getting up around 3 GHz in modded Skyrim VR, 3.27 in AMD’s stress test. Skyrim VR is the only thing I’ve tried that can even make this thing break a sweat. Wanderer and Half-Life: Alyx barely make the fans spin, and the card is only clocking itself at 2 to 2.2 GHz to max them out at Virtual Desktop’s Godlike resolution (~6K render res, ~4k display res).

Last year I briefly tried a 7900 XTX when I saw an Amazon Warehouse deal for $707. I thought it was a good deal at the time, but that thing really put out a lot of heat! It was supposed to be more power efficient than my 6800 XT on paper, but it didn’t seem like it. I was relieved when it developed a DisplayPort signal defect and I had to send it back. This 9070 is a totally different ballgame. It seems just as fast as the XTX, but it does it effortlessly and without turning my SFF case into a howling furnace.

I can finally “set and forget” in VR games, and not have to endlessly tweak everything to try to get it to look good and run well like I always had to do with the 6800 XT. Video upscaling is ~80% faster, and I no longer need to use a special underclock profile so the card doesn’t melt itself. Even the CPU is in its happy place, now that the rest of the case is cooler. Especially considering that I snagged the first 9070 card I could, I’m very satisfied with it.

Coming from a 4790k with a 1080Ti, I am building a new pc around the 9950X3D. Got all the parts...only case and GPU left. I was really set on the MSI Suprim Liquid 5080. It is CDN$2400, only stock available for now. Even thinking of waiting for it to come down to its original $2k.

I am now actually considering an Asrock 9070XT Taichi for about CDN$1000. Its definitely the smarter move....why am I still so torn? Is this a good board? Seeing an Asus Prime OC and a Gigabyte Aorus Elite for slightly more.

I would not hesitate to pick up the ASRock myself. Super happy with my Steel Legend 9070XT (so much so I just picked up another for my son) and the Taichi is the better version.

Yeah, just make so much sense. I was going to delay upgrading the monitor (currently a Dell 2408 from 2008) for a few months....instead, for the price of the 5080 liquid, i can get a 9070XT AND a great monitor.

I can also attest to the Gigabyte 9070 XT OC. Good card with vapor chamber and 2 slot design. I passed my pulse to my son as I was able to get the Gigabyte card at MSRP and the 330 watt model definitely boosts GPU freq 100 to 200 Mhz higher than the spec model at -50mV and +10 power. I'm gonna try to get a 9070 and flash it because why not? next. Should be fun.

That is awesome. Which MSRP? The $600 one or the new $730 price the OC model has? Still a solid deal for vapor chamber plus 3x molex power.

The $730 for the Gigabyte. Yeah I think so. I actually paid the same for the pulse... Damn early adopter's tax.

Sk3tch noticed my OC post on the 9070 flash thread, he wanted me to come over here and flex a bit so here you go:

Gigabyte 9070 XT OC
+10% 360W Power Limit, +100 max freq offset, -50mv voltage offset, VRAM 2748 MHz Tight Timings ON

Screenshot 2025-04-14 225041.jpg

And the AIDA page... with that low latency you were guessing at Sk3tch. It's way under 70.

Screenshot 2025-04-14 223410.jpg

This whole setup actually has no exotic or overly expensive parts. Everything air cooled. An affordable 6400 MHz DDR5 kit, running at 6200, and all I did was turn on low latency mode, set the 4 primary RAM timings a little tighter since it's only running at 6200, and set the RAM optimization mode to Legacy.

The particular major decision for this system build was to target a 2066 fclock, which had a high chance of working with most 9800X3D CPUs, unlike 2100 to 2200.

So it has even dividers between all the busses. RAM 6200/3100, fclock 2066 (6200 divided by 3), uclock=memclock. This keeps performance high and latency low without having to go for really exotic high speed RAM.

A simple all core curve optimizer of -25.

It's built to use, not tweak all day.

Hopefully the 9080 XT is real! But yeah the 9070XT sounds really nice so far.

If you can find one for $750 or less after owning it a couple months I still think it's the absolute crown of price/perf this gen.

Cheap 5070 Ti cards if you can find one well under $900 at the moment are the only other choice if you must have stronger RT, but I'm still not caring this gen. Ask me again in December when all of this years new games are out but I still am not missing out on anything currently, and the OC is stable on everything so far.

I have no idea what I'm doing here on my new Steel Legend 9070xt.

So, straight off the bat I set my Voltage Offset to -80 and my max frequency to 2800 and everything seems good. I suppose this is a decent undervolt.
What is my ultimate goal here?

you lower voltage while raising speed until it doesnt work. then lower speed or raise voltage till it does work repeat until youre at a temp/speed/voltage youre happy with.

How does the power limit and max frequency offset play into this?

Quick recap on undervolting:

Everyone discovered early on that undervolted 9070 (XT) cards can have wildly different stability depending on the game or application it is running. Very random. -80 is a very large undervolt if the goal is 100% stability in every game or app.

A lot of people use a specific 3DMark test, Steel Nomad to try to simplify testing. If you can pass 2-3 runs of it in a row with no crash, it's "probably" stable in just about all games.

I can pass it at -50, but that's the bleeding edge. Anecdotally the overlclocks I've seen from people who seem to know what they are doing put -50 as a better than average fully stable limit and a lot of cards won't do -50. -25 is not uncommon as a fully stable limit.

Yours COULD be stable at -80, but you need to do some serious testing to make sure. Or if you start playing a game and get crashes and all your other games don't, remember you set -80 and back the undervolt off because that's almost certainly the issue.

It's no joke extremely random game to game. One game may run all day long at -100. Another may crash instantly or in a few seconds seconds at -40.

That's been my experience as well. It's really just a crap shoot as to what works and what doesn't work at any particular undervolt.

If you don't want to mess with as much uncertainty about instability. But still want to lower power use: you can try skipping the undervolt and instead try overclocking, while also limiting the max power.

The point being to maintain approximately default performance level, while using less power. I've never had a good time with GPU undervolting, despite the insistence of many youtube videos. However, power limit + Core/VRAM OC, has worked out pretty well with both Nvidia and AMD cards.

Very good points.

I have found (over several 9070 XTs) - that undervolting is VERY stable as long as you go gradual. It is almost like these cards need it.

If you want to have a stable UV, definitely have one for benching and one for gaming. Don't feel bad pulling back to maintain stability. Like the 5080 (which has to be OC'd there is so much on the table) - it is very worth it for the 9070 XT to UV and OC. The crappiest 9070 XT will OC like a beast (in fact the overbuilt cards are a total waste of cash generally - just get a Reaper or a Steel Legend and go crazy). A lot of times I get a card, tinker, and then leave it bone stock (since I play online MP and don't want any crashes due to OC) - but with these cards today it is very worth it. Hell, I even OC my 5090 SUPRIM for Fortnite.

Unless something has changed since launch, don’t touch the frequency slider, just find your undervolt and leave frequency at +0. Setting an increased frequency slider will actually reduce your in-game clocks, according to early OCers after launch. My 9070 non-XT hits 3 GHz at -70 mv, sometimes as high as 3.3, so an XT should clock itself at 3.1 to 3.3 with a stock power limit and a similar undervolt.

Is there any way to know if your undervolt won't crash ever or is it a crapshoot on a per game title basis? I haven't bothered with it at all, but I'd like something stable.
