Anyone have pics of Westinghouse 37" LCD??

Personally I think the 37" is a better fit for a monitor (at this resolution) than the 42". The pixel density on the bigger one would probably be a bit to light for me. AA would be a requirement for anything to look good on that thing at all.

I am really concidering getting a Westy 37. I would reconfigure my desk, would 3', 8" be far enough back from this beast, to comfortly stare at it for 12 -17 hrs. straight? And are my duel 7800 gt's going to be able to play games efficently?

Go check out a floor model at bestbuy or somewhere. Turn the backlight down to less than 30 and then try sitting back from it. Then you'll have a better idea.

I think (2)7800GT's should be good to drive most games at 1920x1080 though some will not be smooth w/AA turned on. Depends on the game.

3.5ft is the minimum distance for me. What makes it uncomfortable to stare at for long periods are white backgrounds at the default settings. You really have to play around with the brightness, contrast, color temp, and backlight.

My settings: 57, 50, 2, and 12 respectively. Whites feel good at these settings without messing up other colors.

For those that are having eye strain with white backgrounds try color temp 1 or 2. 3 makes whites too bright for me.

Thanks a lot guys, for the quick response. How sharp is the text, in regular windows apps."? I don't mine the fact that it will be a bit larger than I'm use to, but dont want it fuzzy. :D

Daaaaaaaaamn clear at native resolution for text. You will be surprised at how good it looks.

The only thing I don't like is that pgr3 (xbox360) doesn't look too nice, but it's ok. A bit of jaggies. Haven't tried anyother games yet. If only it looked as good as it does when hooked up to a computer...

looks so much better with out the speaker

the only problem is when you take off the speakers you have these 2 gaping mounting brackets you stare at just below the monitor in the middle..

it would have been nice if they would have made them a little more hidden with the speakers off..

kind of an odd question...

can the monitor be turned off by the video card? (I.e. screensaver --> monitor shuts off)

yea its fully compliant..

when no input signal is detected it turns off.

Sorry I've been slacking guys. I'll try to get some pictures up before the end of the weekend. Me = lazy. lol

I think I might put some jinx stickers over it...

This display is becoming more and more irresistible! There is still one thing which is still possibly going to bother me. I've read reviews that s-video and composite inputs have terrible de-interlacing artifacts. (Which I would use for video game systems and standard def tv) How bad do these inputs look?

do a search through this thread for my posts, i have pics of the Xbox and PS2 going over the component and composite signals (i didn't test Svideo)

I got one today for $1,679. Turns out the box was too big to get in our vehicle so I have to borrow a truck from a buddy. It would have fit in the there flat, but the warehouse guys said that wasn't a good idea to move a LCD laying flat. Well, is that true? Seems I recall my current Dell getting shipped flat...

Flat is fine, as long as it's not moving around. I got mine home laying flat in the bed of a truck (won't fit my car either).

Yeah BB was all paranoid about it sitting flat when we bought ours. I wouldn't worry about it either but they might throw a fit and not honor the warranty/service agreement if they see you drive off with it like that.

And yes it's silly.

This is because of the nature of LCD.

I got my Westinghouse for $1,300 dollars and some tax. They would NOT allow me to leave with it laying flat. I said, you are kidding. They said, store policy. This was Nebraska Furniture Mart near Kansas City.

If they were making a big deal of it it to the point, they wouldn't allow me to take it home laying flat, there has to be some REAL issues.

It eventually went in sideways.

I later found out, laying it flat "COULD" damage some of the pixels, screen etc.

It's total nonsense.

LCDs are shipped all the time on their sides. My company orders 17-19" models by the hundreds and they always spend some time sitting on their side stacked up in the stock room one on top the other. There are no noticeable problems that arise from doing so.

I just put my center channel speaker in front of it.

me too

best buy near me didnt even help me load the tv into my car.. in fact, he check my receipt at the door and told me have a good night... I was by myself with my work mini-van... it was a bitch to get in there. and would only go in sideways... Dont know what i wouldve said to BB employee if they told me how to load it in my car.. probally woulda gotten a swift "fuck off"

Picked up a 37 Westy saturday and so far all is good. Don't know if anyone has mentioned this about the base. You can remove the speaker and the entire base unit and you will be left with 2 3/4 inch steel rods protruding out of the bottom of the screen. I have a medium sized wooden desktop so I drilled 2 - 3/4 inch holes with a hole saw and inserted the screen into them, added a small strip of thin foam insulation under the bottom bezel and a small piece of thicker foam behind the bottom of the unit directly behind the stel bars. Works slick as heck. Don't have a digital camera or I'd post a screen. Anyone that has this unit can understand what I mean. :)

Trying to picture this in my head... A picture would be helpful.

I also want to see this....
You dont have a digital camera but yet you have a $1600 lcd screen ??! :p

Strange but true, I like to prioritize! Here's the next best solution. If you look at the picture in post 410 page 21 you will see the base clearly, without the speakers. Just imagine no base whatsoever but rather 2 steel rods sticking out of the bottom of the monitor pointing down towards the desk. Then imagine the holes that I drilled to match where the 2 posts protrude. Result is having the monitor standing upright on your desk at what I think is the perfect eye level! The foam is to protect the bottom bezel and the piece behind is to adjust the angle front to rear. hope that helps. :)

When I was playing COD2 for about 15 mins, the right side of my head started getting really warm. When I left for school, I felt really hot. It took 2 hours until my head started feeling normal. How far do you guys set away from the monitor? I'm thinking about either getting a wall mount of another desk so that I can sit far far away from the monitor. If I set far away and I still get head pains, I'm returning it. It's literally a health hazard for me. Any of you guys have problems when you guys sit to close or is it just me getting use to the monitor? I've only had it for one day so far and I'm running at the max of 1920 x 1080.
