All, but people basically just queue for BG's and Arenas. They do Have 'Warplots' which is base vs base, but I heard it's bugged and no many do them.

It's basically instanced PvP we've seen for years now.

All the kinds of PVP people usually enjoy will be there, but it seems to be pretty comprehensive. I really hope that the Arena stuff will not be the "be all, end all" of PVP in terms of rewards, balance etc... however it at least seems it will not go the WoW direction in that regard. Warplots and whatnot haven't been fully tested or even really implemented, but they're on the way. Likewise, more of the "siege warfare on a larger scale than Battlegrounds" type of thing. There will also be Guild Warfare and Duels, as well as a few things that haven't yet been implemented at all like Housing Plot PVP (and PVE for that matter). There will be some Open World PVP zones too. For those who want random PVP most/all of the time, you can of course roll on a PVP ruleset server.

If it's anything like Aion's instanced PVP where it's a race to the finish (Dredge). It's just a matter of time before the AFK care bears start ruining this by doing nothing at all , thus ruining the experience for the rest that wants to pvp

I still can't register with wildstar. Not bothering submitting a ticket at this point. I am certain that they are flooded. Oh well, I doubt that I would play it anyway. TOo much a BF player.

At the endgame level though, Warplots are going to be the pinnacle of PvP. It's a massive guild vs. guild battle with fortresses you build and improve as a guild and captive raid bosses and all kinds of cool stuff afaik.

There's also the part where they're giving UI modders access to every API the devs have, so literally the entire UI can be re-done by the community if you want.

I liked the look and style of the game, but was immediately collect and kill. :( Do we need another WoW clone? I was looking forward to this game for whatever reason. I played for about 1-2 hours on the non exile side (forgot the name). Maybe I should have played more.

played both sides.. a couple characters up to about 13..

it was fun.. a little different.. a lot the same. that's mmo I guess.

really looked / felt like a GW2 engine etc in general

was surprised the amount of pretty deeply knowledgeable people already in the game.. fair amount of stability issues.. but it was just a b eta weekend..

Honestly, at this point, I feel like MMO devs are in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. People are quick to throw out "WoW clone" when devs try to do what WoW does well. People are also quick to throw out "WoW does it better" when devs try to break from the mold a bit. It's really a no win situation, and the fault really lies with the genre in general rather than any specific game.

The problem is (imo) that no publisher is willing to take that risk to try something really different.

Indie developers have tried but without the budget and resources that an mmorpg requires (far more then any other genre in gaming) they have been very rough/bare bones.

I still find it surreal that the first gen big mmo's were all so different, Ultima, Everquest, Asherons call. Each of them played vastly different then the others, then after EQ mmo's just got into this "path" of following that formula and then when WoW did it it's been an even narrower path.

It seems like the economics of MMOs are really hard to make work for niche audiences. A lot of people like sandbox games, but sandbox games are only as good as the community within them. It's pretty tough, therefore, to justify investment in a well-made but niche sandbox game, because if you don't create that successful small community early on (that can maintain the organic fun and resulting non-negative user growth rate), you end up with an empty world and no revenue. It's high risk. EVE was able to achieve a sustainable community with a niche product, but it's the exception rather than the rule.

The problem then is that developers with big budgets are forced to create lowest-common-denominator theme parks containing lots of stuff to do without other players. That's why all these new MMOs tout "being able to solo" because if the community doesn't hit critical mass then at least you have a hedge where players can still play. Unfortunately, I believe the ability to effectively solo can undermine the very community that MMOs so desperately want. A perpetual multiplayer world where everyone can get together and... play alone. I loved sandbox MMOs like UO because I was incentivized to make friends, and did so with an awesome group. We then created our own adventures with absolutely no questing. But when WOW came around, I ended up soloing most of the time and when I needed to raid I'd just group with randoms. Why? Because I had no incentive to find others. WOW was a fun world with cool shit and lots to do alone, until I got bored and realized that I hadn't invested in a community to provide me with new adventures (realize this isn't the case for everyone, but I'd guess it's happened to quite a few people). That's when I quit. Nowadays I think, "if I'm gonna play solo anyway (cause I can and they make it easy), why would a want a crappy experience that's the result of so many compromises made in pursuit of a massively multiplayer world, when I could just have an awesome single player experience?" The difference between ESO and Skyrim is a great example of this... loved Skyrim but felt like ESO beta was basically a bastardized, forced MMO version of it.

I think games like Rust are the beginning of an MMO revival, and it's happening because indie devs can bring out alphas and continually tinker with the features until they hit the right mix. They can concentrate on growing a small, dedicated community by listening to and incorporating feedback earlier in the dev cycle. I've been wrong before but I'm hopeful.

Unless that happens in a very controlled environment, like Clan Wars in World of Tanks (which is on a specific schedule), you end up with huge imbalances based on participation. Those imbalances are what makes Guild Wars 2 RvR suck so hard, that unless you have constant 24/7 coverage those who do win. If both sides have 24/7 coverage then those with higher numbers (more participation) win.

For reasons unknown that clusterfuck remains fun for some in GW2 but overall the player numbers are way way down and I wouldn't be surprised if they started to merge servers this summer.

Have to remember WS has been in development since 2007 when WoW was taking off, so that's why it's basically 'WoW in space'.

If you look around a lot of new MMO's are going the 'sandbox' route now because the Theme park has been done so many times in the past 10 years.

Look at Everquest Next, Pathfinfer Online, Albion Online, The Repopulation, ArcheAge(if they don't publish 1.0) Starcitizen, and others.

Looks like Curse.com has keys for the upcoming weekend. First wave is for Premium members who can get keys right now, then they'll have open keys on the 3rd for other people.

If anyone happens to be a Premiun member who already has beta access or wont be playing Wildstar, I'd love to get a key for a friend who hasnt been able to get in yet. I wish they had given buddy keys with preorders like mine, but alas, no such luck, and I'd like to get him into this weekend when we're both off work.

Starting to really look forward to launch the closer its getting, especially after playing my medic last weekend..... love the class.

It would be appreciated greatly. I had him download and install the client last night, so he's all set now for the weekend if we can snag a key somewhere.

I plan to try for one off Curse.com tomorrow while I'm at work, but I'm guessing they'll be gone within a few minutes.

I read that Curse has a pool of perhaps 300,000 keys, and that a significant amount of them remain. So, anyone who wants in the WildStar beta weekend, give it a try today!

This game looks set to be the best MMO in a LONG time. Having been following the development closely and playing in closed beta since last year, I can say pretty confidently that the devs know what they're doing and are making great decisions. I've pre-ordered and can't wait until the 31st.

I dont know about "best in a long time"... its a "WoW in space" clone for the most part with a few changes and a horrible UI imho that I hope the things I've read about it being revamped are true.

Time will tell I guess. My preorder has been in since the moment it went live, but I dont know how long I'll pay to play it past a few months depending on what they do in patches after launch.

The new UI has already been released, it'll be in the beta this weekend, though it's not completely finished yet. Regardless, there's a full API, so the community can do anything the devs can as far as UI is concerned.

As for being a WoW clone, its has PvP and raids, which describes just about every MMO. Other than that it's completely different, from combat system to skills to crafting to raids to endgame content. I've come to realize that people saying "WoW clone" today are like people who said "Doom clone" back in the 90's. Now we call those "Doom clones" FPSs. Hopefully people will stop trying to call every MMO a "WoW clone" just because it shares some overarching concepts.

Pretty sure that WoW clone was meant as in the art style rather than the functionality.

It's actually far worse than WoW from the style perspective. The cartoony look isn't for everyone and it was a complete turn off for me. I felt like I was in a Saturday-morning cartoon which was an experience I did not enjoy at all.

Exactly. Its the same art style used to make a Sci-Fi world. Nothing really new to see there which is sad because they could have come up with a much more attention getting style than just matching what we've all seen for years really.

I'm going to be playing this weekend for sure. I'm just not as driven to play it as I was long before I actually got in to test it. The hype from the old videos was far better than the actual experience once I got into the game imho.

But the one truth of MMO's... they are always changing, so I still have some hope for WS.

I want to play Wildstar, I want to love Wildstar, but in the end I can't bring myself to hop back into a cartoon world after so many years of WoW. This will be the first case that I haven't played a game due to graphics. The art style is just that repulsive to me.

Okay guys, I've passed out the 3 I had so far to those who contacted me!

Just to let everyone know, these keys are good for only THIS current beta test, which is active now through this coming Monday morning at 3am EST or thereabouts, if I recall correctly. If you want to pre-order, you will get into EVERY beta test, plus some other fun bonuses. Anyone interesting in pre-ordering, let us know here and/or check GreenManGaming - they usually have a 20% or even 25% off coupon code that will work for the WildStar preorder, both standard and Deluxe version! When I preordered I used GMG's coupon when buying the deluxe version, and they quickly sent my key so I could register it on the WildStar account (NCAccount) site!

Enjoy! Oh, and new players - this is the VERY first time they've released the brand new UI to the public. Its a little buggy. That will get fixed. Oh, but they DID add body morphs - smart move, very smart move.

I'm not seeing any coupons for WS on GMG. If you have a spare code, I'll take a stab at the game.

Found a 20% off coupon, bringing the Deluxe edition down to $60. Wish the game would download faster. ;/

That 20% off coupon should work on WildStar, indeed. It is a "public" and unlimited use GMG code. If you sign up for their email newsletter, you'll get special codes, sometimes 25% or even rarely 30% that are limited in use, time, or bound to your email address. However, the public 20% off coupon will as you say, bring the cost down to $60 flat for the Deluxe Edition, which is as far as I know the best deal around, unless you have one of the "private/limited" discount voucher codes.

At the moment I don't have any extra codes, but I'll see what I can do. If you got to na.alienwarearena.com - they should be able to grant you one there, most likely. They still have some left. Oh, and if you've already bought the game from GMG (which it sounds like if you're downloading), and got your preorder/code in the mail etc... apply it to your WildStar/NCsoft account and you won't need mine - you're granted access to all the betas, not just the current one.

I played it on Sunday, (I pre-ordered) I had fun in the 3 hours I was in it. I think it's an interesting concept on what type of task you want to tackle. Exploring/Fighting/Scientific and Adventuring. Thats a neat idea to change it up on you.

I have a 4930K @ 4,5Ghz with a Gigabyte 780 Ghz edition and at max settings I was ranging from 60fps (I have nvidia Framesync option on in the driver) it would dip to 40 fps in heavy action areas.

Compared to the 2 hours inside Elder Scrolls online Beta, I feel Wildstar is at a better place. I never wanted to get back into Elder Scrolls again after giving it a try. It felt it was developed for the console.

I give high marks to Wildstar.

This past weekend was a lot of fun and they announced a bonus weekend this weekend (starting the 25th), I'm pretty well set on being a subscriber for a while. The Dev's are really impressing me with how much they seem to be listening and taking people's concerns into consideration without making knee-jerk alterations.

They're handing out weekend beta keys by the truckload through various partners. Keep an eye on their Twitter. I think they're passing out something on the order of tens of thousands (or maybe even 100k) keys each weekend. Also, you get beta weekend access if you pre-order, which can be done with a 20% off code at GMG. Not sure whether a guaranteed beta key is worth that to you for a few weekends of play, depends on how sure you are you'll want to at least play for a few months at launch I suppose.
