Antec P180

I use a Sunbeam also, main reason for me is the difference in ambient temps between winter and summer. I don't have AC at my house so the temperature difference between December and July is very large in my house.

Hey nice rig dynamiks.

I've been wanting to get one of those Zalman coolers but my current mobo (gigabyte crap!) won't allow the space me thinks.

I usually try to limit the lights on my comp because it's in my room and I like my room dark at night (already frustrated by the blue glow from my Antec Phantom... but the acoustics make up for that).

I really wish all the drive bays weren't black plastic but rather nice aluminum (a la Cooler Master / Lian-Li). That would finish the case of nicely IMO.

nooooo..... :(

its okay Lian-Li... you will have your day again...

I have seen the CM stacker and was not impressed. It is large, but that is about all there is to it compared with other high-end cases. The P180 is impressive and much more groundbreaking than the stacker. The only reason I would ever go with the stacker compared with the P180 is if I was watercooling.

Just ordered my p180 today. Gonna start working on case mods now for my computer buy in November.

I used to own a stacker before my P180, and trust me, unless you need all that extra space, then definately the P180 is a better choice. For a not watercooled PC without a million components, it beats the stacker in every way. The quality of the P180 is just superb. The CM Stacker isn't built with as much quality. Although I still like the Stacker, I must agree I definately love my P180 much better. Especially the fact that is much more quiet.

Well I just picked one up at Fry's. Haven't opened it yet, just got off work at 12:30am but tomorrow will be a nice day. :p

They just got them in. I really like the design, very smooth. That sidepanel does take some work to put back in place though. Aside from that I really like it, now I just have to get my PSU and all the other parts of my computer and I can start building! :p

The Fry's in City of Industry also has them in stock.

The Fry's in Arlington, Tx has the Silver case for $160.

Damn.... that's $60 more than the silver one (at techonweb anyway).... sheesh---
So what? A portion of every sale of the black goes to Silent PC Review, and that website has had a major hand in the whole process of pushing Silent PCs over the last few years. If Silent PC Review did not exist, then there's a good chance this case might not exist.

If it's too expensive, don't buy it. Besides since this is a hot case many sites have raised their prices, and Techonweb is out of stock.
The cheapest place is Monarch with a price of $153 shipped, they're out of stock.
Zipzoomfly and Newegg both want $165 shipped.
If you have to pay tax like I do to Techonweb, then by the time you add tax and shipping you're only $30 or so away from the price of the black one.

Shipping kills it, though, if you're in the US. May be a good deal if you're in Canada, though.

I put in an order at TriTech (cheapest I could find, $140 shipped) but it became backordered right after I ordered it. I'm tempted to cancel and go with the SPCR version because it looks better imo and it's actually in stock...

Even though techonweb is out of stock, they'll ship it to you as soon as they have it. Mine took a couple weeks to come, but getting it for $50 less than the egg = teh win.

I searched several sites and no one had them in stock. Then I decided to try Central Computer. I called the Newark store and they had 6 on Thursday. I shopped at the Santa Clara store when I lived in the San Francisco area quite a bit when I lived there. They do most of their business in the retail stores and didn't even show up on Froogle. Anyway, it was $139 and $18.75 UPS ground shipping from Bay Area to Phoenix. $157 total. I'll get it Monday. A few sites had them for less a couple of weeks ago, however a Froogle search shows they are going back up in price and they aren't in stock. Central Computer sent me an email with the shipping charge before I replied back with my confirmation. Real people answer the phone and in fact, when I called to see if they had any in stock he took my credit card and shipping info over the phone. I go my tracking number 15 minutes later. So I may not have gotten the best deal, but they have them in stock and the transaction was very easy and that's worth it to me.

So if anyone doesn't want to wait or pay the Fry's $160+tax, you may want to give them a try. They have 3 stores so call each one if the Newark store has sold out. http://heh.pl/&Cj http://heh.pl/&Ci

if i wasnt saving my money for college, I would build a computer just based around this case.

What are the thermals like for this case?

and is the layout really that hard to work with as people say?

yes it can.... go get that case before its discontined. Ive already bought 10 cases.... Whos your daddy???

How does the interior space, air flow, and cable management in the P180 compare to the Sonata (original)?

what are the case temp people been getting for this case? i cant seem to go below 40C, my old case i was 25C. granted im still using the stock 3 fans, i plan to add one more, but will this drop me to the 30's at least?

i tried 1 fan front, 1 back, and 1 bottom mid. 2 fan back and 1 bottom mid.
Both gave me 40C idle. argh, maybe its because of the low speed or something.

There interior space and air flow are quite a bit better than the Sonata. The cable management is quite a bit harder with the P180.

What kind of fan configuration did you use on your old case? At what fan speed and size fans?

CJ

Am getting 30c....
Leave all the stock fans and add another one in the front.
Remove the VGA duct.
This might help to drop the temp alittle more...

really i dont remember. it was in the famous antec case that every company has a version of.
i had 5 fans but only 2 fans going(intake exhast) 90% of time for websurfing and office, others were off. not including the heatsink fan. fans were 80mm panaflos l1a? and coolermaster rifles. both were less than 25db running at low and stock speed. dunno exact off the top of my head.

i plan to add another 120 to see if it drops to 30C, and i dont use the vga duct.
only system change is new motherboard and venice cpu which supposely runs cooler than my old xp. so its kinda wierd. i know its the airflow, but my wiring are clean too. i think its my new vid card? x700pro, but doubt it puts that much more heat then my 9600.

anyways its no big deal, but just wanted to know what majority of people were getting in case temp.

Newegg has it in stock for $135. Pretty good deal IMO. Before it went out of stock it was 149$. I think I have found the case I am going to build my new computer in.

Anyone know of a top-of-the-line PSU that would fit in this case. I read about how the OCZ's are not of standard size. I was looking at the PC Power & Cooling PSUs but I want to find something cheaper if possible. Anyone know if the Phantom PSUs by Antec are any good? I read they are 80% efficient. That's pretty good since most PSUs I see are 70ish.

Seasonic S12 500w or 600w.

I'd recommend the Seasonic S12-500W or 600W as well. One thing that SPCR noted in their review of the case is that the length of the auxillary 12V cable + the position of the PSU can make wiring difficult with motherboards that have the 4-pin connector up in the top-left. You can see here how they had to stretch it across the PCI slots (5th and 6th picture down).

So has anyone bought the black case yet, and can you comment on the quality of the finish?

For those of you who removed the VGA duct, did you block off the grill in the back of the case? Or just leave it open?

Left it open, didn't seem to hurt anything.
