Antec P180

How do you think you guys would mod this for water cooling?

Would you get one big dual heater core in the 5.25 bay and dremel holes for two 120mm fans?

or is there other options that would not mar the beautiful case and still give great temps?

I'd put a dual 120mm rad in the top.

so there is no way around dremeling the top of this case?

From looing at the pictures it's rather a small case for water cooling if you ask me. Similar in size to Sonata/SLK3700...

You could just use a single 120 rad/'86 Chevette hc on the top exhaust fan, or of course you could dremel towards the front to make room for a 2 or 3x120 rad/hc. The case seems really nice for WCing, with the stock blowhole, bottom area to stash hds to make room for the pump in the top hd bay, and just plain lots of room to work with.

Im with Nightrain, I still cant decide what case to to get, becuase LLs are so light, but the P180 sounds like it makes an extremely quiet case, but it weighs twice as much, and I go to lans pretty frequently...decisions, decisions :(.

Going by your sig, I think a new video card would be a higher priority than a new case.

Thanks for reminding me, I had to use my old fx5200 & Aspire psu because my ax500 died after 6 months :(

Crap, after reading more reviews, I really want a P160, and theyre $90 right now @ ZZF . I think I may have to give up on the P180, now hat I realized that my ax500 with its bottom 120mm fan wont have much room to breathe :(

Sure it will, there's good clearance over and under the PSU for things to run cool.

Nope, but it's easy to how distorted metal there would be a problem. Getting all six plastic tabs properly set/aligned and closed the first time took 10 minutes per door. The side panels make an extremely tight and secure connection to the frame.

No, I mean the inside aluminum tabs that wrap back around the plastic frame. I think there are 3 per side, upper, lower, left, right, so around 12. If you look on side facing into the case you'll see them. I'm not talking about how the entire panel connects to the case. One of those tabs was not secured properly and caused the aluminum to bubble out on the outside of the panel. I fixed it somewhat, but I don't think it should have been that way. Not sure if it happened when made or in shipping. Antec is taking care of it though. I guess no biggy, but was wondering if anyone else had an issue with it.

aren't the chevette cores huge? i didn't know they came in a single 120mm size. how does the black ice extreme stack up, i think that would be good fit for the top exhaust fan.

The 86 chevette core is the size of a single 120mm fan.

77 bonneville core is the size of 2 120mm fans (w/ AC model is slightly larger but both work great)

BIX and BIP both would fit up top as well, the BIX is thicker than the BIP though, and requires more powerful fans to keep decent airflow through the denser fins.

Also... I just ordered from techonweb since I dont have a set timetable for my build, but I just couldn't pass up the fact that even after 20$ shipping the case was still cheaper than the base price everywhere else!

yea i ordered from technoweb last week. i called them first to confirm their lack of ETA.

now i'm just having a terrible time planning the WC setup with only pictures and no case :(

so would you stick a chevette core on the top exhaust or would you go for a BIX/BIP? or dremel the hell outta this beauty?

I just heard from Antec that the Phantom 500 will not fit in the P180. I wonder why they did that? I was going to get one, but I guess not. :(

Oh, if ya didn't know Zipzoomfly now has the P180.

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=140118

where did you hear that the phantom 500 wouldn't fit? Not that it effects me, while I would love to have that much to drop on a PSU im going to be going for the FSP BlueStorm (ax500).

Also, the list price at ZZF is 10$ higher than the price after shipping from techonweb, so you will end up paying like 35$ more in the end. Shoot if the MSRP is 160$ it would be cheaper to get it at your local computer store (if they carry cases that is)

I just recieved mine and I think it's excellent. It's deffinately silent and all. It did take me a while to switch out of my GMC Neo Classic into the P180 but it wasn't too tough. I did have a problem with the rear case fan. My DFI LAnParty SLI motherboard would not fit completely into position as the sound riser would hit the fan. I had to cut a small piece out of the fan for it to fit but it was a quick fix. I also have never had a case with 2 HD LEDs. heh... I had no place to hook the second up to (unless they can be connected to the hard drive itself, but I've never heard of that myself). Very nice indeed. I'd show some pics but I need to work on the wiring and my digital camera is currently out of comission.

what's the sound riser? and you had to cut away from the stock fan?

sound riser something for that 7.1?

uuummm... It's the tiny little card for all the audio (you can see a pic of it here or here). I just took some diagnal cutters to the stock 180mm fan and cut a small piece of plastic out for it to fit. Didn't hurt the fan or anything, still runs nicely.

I kind of wish the the fans were using the small connector so they can be directly connected to the motherboard and controlled through that instead of the little H-M-L switches but that's more of a personal preference.

The Phantomo 500 will not fit in the P180 it is too long

We did some additionally checking on the P180+Phantom 500.

It can fit, however you have to be sure to route the cables to one side, so that they don't hit the fan/block the airflow from the fan. Also those of you with big hands/fingers will probably not enjoy installing the Phantom500 into the P180.

From my handling of it, you'll need to remove the bottom fan, install the Phantom500, route the cables to one side/to the upper chamber. Reinstall the bottom fan. There is very little space between the bottom fan and the Phantom 500. We'll be posting a FAQ/picture of what we mean on our site soon.

have any of you found a site that allows you to choose the black front case?

im only seeing the all silver.

silentpcreview only special edition IIRC

Can anyone who has/has handled this case tell me if the outer metal panels can be removed by themselves? Only that would make a respray much easier, and i can imagine this case bieng a BEAST in white panelling with the black plastic highlighting it

I think so. From what I can tell the outside aluminum piece seems to just be held on by tabs, though there may be some glue involved as well.

Got sick of waiting for Newegg so I took the plunge and ordered one from ZipZoomfly. I"ll have a review up once I get it next week.

Is anyone else getting the impression that this case isn't going to be able to match all the hype? Even the SPCR don't seem all that impressed.

I'll reserve judgements until I have it in front of me with equipment in it.

Hype can kill any product, no matter how good it turns out in the end *cough* FX5800

I like the look of the thing. I wish there was a no front door option. I can't stand that. At least you can fold it back and keep it out of the way.

My biggest problem with that case is that it won't fit my Tyan Thunder K8WE.

Not many ATX spec cases could bud, thats a helluva huge board.

I know. I installed it in my case today. It is HUGE.

Here's a great place to order from. They're six month reseller rating is a 10.

Out of stock right now, but one of the cheapest places I've seen in this thread.

SundialMicro P180

Ordered my V1000 Plus from them. They are an excellent company to deal with.

I know that you can put in optional fans, but does the front slot (or any other) make it easy to have a fan cool your RAM?

Can anyone give a detailed review (or are u still checking the case out)

Close as your gonna get is this one. Beyond that, people are still waiting for their cases. Beyond that, there is NO direct cooling to the RAM area.

Got mine the other day. It's so much quieter than my Lian-Li PC-60, it's not even funny. Installing the PSU was a real pain in the ass, though.

What about the blowhole? i think i meantioned this earlier, and i still don't see the point - is it worth ruining the lines of the case to integrate a 120mm fan just inches form an identical fan?

The "spoiler" is low key enough to not really ruin the lines of the case, in my opinion. I'm a huge fan of clean lines and understatement when it comes to computer cases, and this doesn't bug me at all.

Ungood, pics?

I think the spoiler is cool looking, Give the case a "personal" look compared to the rest of them. I think i'll be using the blowhole fan and not the back one personally.
