Prices haven't been released yet, the poster was only saying how much the parts would retail for total.

Guess you missed this:

*Prices from pricewatch.com rounded up to the nearest dollar; Small Business Server is not listed, because you are probably not going to get a full version of it; ie you're not allowed to use the software to run your small business... it is for development only. If you really want the price it is $229.

I think I'll pass on the bundle this year. it's tempting to upgrade my 3200+ I got at last year's show, but I have no reason to ... yet. ;)

o good god. i want the 165.. but i want a x-fi too... i may have to get both, then put together a separate system using the 4000+/mobo and sell that to someone to cover the cost of buying both packages, and keeping the 165 and x-fi for myself :p

will have to see how the prices are. also, gonna need to see if i can find a reseller whatever thing if that's required, but one of my dad's friends has a retail shop so that'll probably work.

I'd just like the server processor. I could probably come out even if I sold my current 3200+ too.

Yes I'll be one of the few who will piss and moan about the mobo! :D Not a fan of MSI mobos anyway (DFI or Asus please)

If that other poster is correct in requiring a tax ID looks like i cant go anymore!

Indeed i did, my mistake

well, theres still hope then. although the hardware is nearly as nice as it was last year. Maybe the prices will be incredibly low

Uh. Guys. It is completely legal to resell the Windows software, NFR sticker or not (at least in the US).
According to that, depending on what region of the US you live in and what court district you live in, it is legal or it is not. Highly debated via court cases. Probably one of those things that won't be fully resolved anytime soon, given the different nature (ie political/legal atmosphere) of the courts in the US, ie. west coast vs. east coast.

How did you guys sign up for the emails about this?
You get subscribed, when you goto the tour, there's not a sign-up form. Keep checking back here, I'll post emails on my server, as I get them.

im buying the desktop bundle for sure!

the server bundle suxor. unless the board doesn't REQUIRE ecc ram. but i want that X FI

The other nice thing about that Tyan board is that is does not require a EPS12V power supply, although it will work with one:

There are two power connectors on your Tomcat K8E S2865. The Tomcat K8E
S2865 requires that you have an EPS12V power supply that has a 24-pin and
an 8-pin power connector. The Tomcat K8E also supports ATX 2.x and ATX12V
power supplies (20-pin + 4-pin).

That plus the fact it doesn't need REG/ECC RAM is pretty nice. This will find its way into some non-servers I'm sure, with the PCI-e x16 slot and all.

The "server" bundle is socket 939, not 940.

soo fricken tempting,

i only want to buy one bundle.

but i want the XP Pro w/ soundcard,

but i also want the opteron / mobo. decisions decisions

Many people are pissed that Tax IDs will apparently be strictly enforced in order to purchase 1 or more bundles. I guess AMD forgot that it was us non-for-profit-system-resellers/builders that helped build enthusiasm for their CPUs.

In my case, I'm pretty happy w/ my 3200+ Venice chip I got from last year's desktop bundle and have no need to upgrade, esp. for to another non-dual-core chip (4000+). Shame on AMD for not including an X2 chip in the desktop bundle.

I honestly don't shame AMD at all for their decision to use the 4000+ single core CPU for the bundle. The X2 CPUs are in very very high demand right now. The 4000+ single core isn't. Sounds to me like a good way to help get rid of a few thousand or whatever 4000+ CPUs. :D

Can someone please point me to information that says that Tax IDs will be strictly enforced?

I read both emails, this is not true.

Besides, in many states, you can use your SSN as a Tax ID, if you are running a Sole Proprietorship. Along with that, you can get an Employer ID Number (EIN) from the IRS: http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=98350,00.html

About EINs: An Employer Identification Number (EIN), also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number, is a nine-digit number that the IRS assigns to business entities. The IRS uses this number to identify taxpayers that are required to file various business tax returns. EINs are used by employers, sole proprietors, corporations, partnerships, non-profit organizations, trusts and estates, government agencies, certain individuals and other business entities.

An EIN allows you to sign contracts or essentially do business w/o giving out your SSN.

This thread is getting way ahead of itself. Wait until there is official release on the Tech Tours..... this forum is not for arguing speculation.
