AnandTech's super-sleuth readers have uncovered what they think to be information that points to AMD's Ryzen launch date buried inside some information about GDC.

"Recently-launched" would in fact suggest that the Ryzen processor had already been launched at the time of the event which is from February 27th to March 3rd.

This of course has been changed on the GDC site at the time of typing this.

Or all of this is just BS, but I don't think so.

It won't suck, neither will Vega and then Half-Life 3 will be confirmed.

Wouldn't it be nice if this puts AMD back in the cpu game.

On a side note, What does AMD call their flavor of HyperThreading?

Thanks but, I need an exact date. I have to ask for time off at least a few days in advance to go and buy this stuff. Well, they are building the excitement and it seems like they are making sure they are fully ready when retail time arrives.

No need to waste my time, I just have to have an exact date. ;) To bad those who do know cannot tell us. (I am sure Kyle does not know nor anyone else outside of AMD, most likely.) Nice trip to a 3 hour away Microcenter. :)

What hype train? Sorry but, wanting to know the release date is not hype nor is not releasing it until it is ready. They did say all the 4, 6 and 8 core processors will be ready on release as well as the mainboards. Have to make sure there is enough to meet possible demand but, I wish I could get them NOW! :D ;):notworthy:

I hope they do well with this one, I really do, they deserve another success. I still fondly remember the old Duron, Athlon and x64 CPU's I had.
I'd honestly have liked to stick it out a bit longer but the old X58 motherboard was having increasingly severe issues so I just jumped on Kaby to avoid a sudden death moment.

What odds are the Irish and Vegas bookmakers giving on:
    • It being a paper launch?
    • [H]ardOCP not having a unit to review before the launch?
    • [H]ardOCP having to source it's own review unit?

What are the chances that intel goes to the back room, blows some dust off a box then suddenly introduces a chip with 15% more performance than Kaby?

Faildozer gave us plenty of reasons to keep worrying about anything AMD says for a very long time.

Highly unlikely. I doubt we'll see any kind of real jump in performance from Intel until their new architecture. Maybe not even then, depending on what they focus on and how much of a brick wall they really have hit with IPC gains.

Such a vast amount of money R&D went into the newest line of nVidia cards, I forget the exact statistic but it was by far the most time and resources ever devoted to designing a new card architecture they were saying. And the 1080 is an amazing card. But AMD came out with the 480 which is competitive with equally priced nvidia cards and even better by a little bit on newer games. So if they can be competitive with less resources on graphics cards I'm hoping they can do it on CPUs too.

All this means is that at some point it was the plan that the CPU would launch prior to this talk.

It doesn't mean it still is the plan. (though I certainly hope that is the case)

I think we all expected it to launch before early March anyway, so there really isn't anything surprising here.

There is also no definition of "recently". Recent could mean (last week) to some, or a few months or a few years ago to others. The other day I was talking about a recent party my friends and I had all been to. Then we came to discussing when that was anyway, and it turns out it was 5-10 years ago. Time flies.

What I will say is this. It is disappointing that the date seems to keep getting later and later. First the message to shareholders was that they expected limited shipments in late 2016.

Then the rumors were focused on a supposedly internally leaked CES launch and shipments on January 17th.

Now we are talking potentially as far out as early March.

I just want this to be over already. :p

My personal guess - however - based on what MSI let slip on motherboard availability dates is that we are looking at a second half of February launch. Are there even any major shows then?

When it comes to building any machine that isn't cutting edge you wait if you can. Price rises are more or less a thing of the past now so (usually) it can only benefit you to hold out as long as possible.

Or put their R&D $$ into other avenues in which there is more competition...

Office computer. Go ahead and build. Just did an ITX for my mother (say hello to her) and it is very snappy for ~$600. 6100/16gb/500gb EVO SSD/1tb spinner repurposed/MSI B150 Gaming... MUCH faster than the old ahtlon quad I had built her a handful of years ago... even for her purposes.

And like Twisted said, why wait? You aren't building a bleeding edge gaming rig. Edit: didn't see he said wait as long as possible. I actually disagree with that point of view - consumer grade doesn't really fluctuate much (ie. 6100) until the VERY end of the life cycle to eliminate stock. There isn't a lot of wiggle room.

No duobt. That is exactly what either Nvidia or Intel could do if there is ever any real competition.

Why should I wait? It is guaranteed to be a lot faster than my already pretty quick FX 8350 and FX 8300. It has DDR4 and all the other new tech. If you want to wait, that is your choice but, I see no reason to wait.

Not now, they do not even know what is being released from AMD at this time anymore than you or I do. They also just cannot spend the money on new tech and not sell it but just sit on it, that is not going to happen.

So, your worry is based on 5 year old tech, good for you. No need to worry at all from where I am sitting but hey, I guess CES 2017 was just showing fake products, eh?

Do you not remember the Bulldozer launch? Bulldozer was slower than Stars in a lot of cases.

All I saw at CES were cherry picked benchmarks and games that aren't CPU limited. The Bulldozer launch was pretty much the same way. The AMD server guy shouted "IPC goes up!!!" about Bulldozer. This is mirroring the Bulldozer launch and that is why some of us are worried. The next thing I expect are independent leaks showing Ryzen is slower than expected and no one will believe them (but they will end up being true). I hope this isn't another Bulldozer because I don't want Intel to take another $300 million away from R&D and put it towards diversity programs.

While caution isn't a bad thing, this doesn't feel at all like Bulldozer to me. AMD wasn't so free with letting people get hands on with Bulldozer and there don't seem to be the same giant warning signs attached to it. AMD's PR seems to be a lot less super aggressive and overly hype happy this time around. AMD's PR stuff seems more confident than overly boastful like they did with Bulldozer. That said, I'm just at the "I hope it's good" state I don't trust AMD's CPU division enough yet to have a ton of faith in Ryzen being what the CPU market really needs. It's potentially promising and that's all I'm going to give it.
