@ Son1990 : al the resistors for the leds are on this board. I can turn the leds on and of in four seperate groups and in this way it was easier to know wich wire was from what group.

Thanks Top Nurse. To bad I have to wait for the Crystalfontz lcd now, I'm so close to finishing the mod now. Hope to get the lcd by the end of next week. I will work all weekend when it's in to complete the case. ( only the window in the sidepanel will have to wait some longer )

OK. I have been looking at this post for some time now and everytime I see something new, I am just speechless. This is AMAZING craftmanship and brilliant ideas. Not to mention how AWESOME this is going to look. Hey Alumaxx, amazing work and I can't wait to see the final product.
 
Far from ready but here are some quickshots of the case. Most of the hoses are mounted now. It was quite a job to keep the hosemanagement a bit clean. This is the first time I watercool so many parts.

and when its finally done will we never see the drive bays? i forgot what will happen with that screen on top of the drive bays. oh and the tubing setups look lovely,

I was wondering the same thing. A single wirebound resistor should suffice and take up less room. Oh well :p.
 
I didn't know how many leds I was going to use in the end. I knew I wanted to place four seperate groups of leds, that can be switched on and off seperately, but not how many leds that there would be in every group. Adding one or more leds wasn't a problem doing it this way and I had enough room.

You still could have use one big resister, and many separatly switched groups of LEDs (just put the switches in after the resisitor), and no matter how many LEDs you put on one 25 watt resistor it would handle it just fine. (the wattage is how much power it can handle, not how much it uses) eg: http://www.elexp.com/cmp_3255.htm

But there is nothing wrong with your approach, it just seems like more work.

Your metal/plexi work is awesome btw.

A 25W Resistor would get mutantly hot. A wirewound resistor might as well be a 25W bar heater in the case, cause all those LEDs would consume nearly 7 watts.

How do you figure? If the LED's use 7 watts, then the heat generated would be 7 watts, same as a bunch of small resistors.

The resistor will only "use" as many watts as flow through it, being rated at 25W only means that it can handle that much before it lets the magic smoke out.

Yes, Im not discussing what the resister can and cant handle, however it is more effective to use a number of smaller resistors rather than one large one, as with many resistors its a lot easier to dissipate 7watts with many resistors than trying to dissipate 7watts in one small area.

I suspect 7watts on a 25watt resistor would get hotter than 7watts dissipating over 30 1/4w resistors. A lot more air would be passing over all those little resistors than over that 25W

Anyway, the point is almost invalid. There are no real wrong solutions with either in this case tbh.
 
This is just a great project! I finally got caught up on the whole log and I am very impressed with your technical skill and your design savvy. Not many people can master both but you clearly have.

You have a lot of hardware in that box but you manage to keep it all clean and neat. Awsome job! :cool:

I agree :D , I need to try some of those techniques, a tutorial would be nice :D .
 
After some serious trouble with the pumps, I'm modding again. The O-rings in both pump were missing :mad: This wouldn't be such a big problem if my pumps weren't build in at such difficult places. Had to take everything apart to put in the rings. Eheim helped me out very fast I must say. Mailed them and I got a response within the day. They send new O-rings for free the same day. Great support.

Today I soldered the relais to the PSU's. First the connection with the primary PSU. The 12 volt line and the and the ground. Between these two a diode.

and then the connection with the second PSU with the PS_on and the ground.

A few weeks ago A.C. Ryan asked me to send them a photograph of the complete case as it is now for their worklogcontest gallery. At that time all the parts from my mod were everywhere but in the case. After all the problems I've experienced with the pumps, the case is now almost complete, so it was time to take some shots for the gallery. I'm not much of a photographer, but I think these photos will do for now. This is what I mailed them.

This weekend it is time for the first attempt to start the computer for the first time. I will keep my fingers crossed and hope I will not encounter any further problems.

The blades can be changed and you can buy different kind of blades for metal, plastics and wood.
Next thing I do is file the edges, just use normal files. You can see them on the table in one of the pictures from the acrylic grill.

To give it a good finish I use sandingpaper. That's all I use and that's one of the reasons it takes so much time to finish the project.

Ran into some problems during the winows installation. After the automatic reboot no more display. Will have find the solution for this problem next week when I have some more time.
 
I'll say it again, very very nice work. I wish I had half your skill. (Shameless plug time), if your interested, check my build in the worklogs 'Beast III'. I'm going to use some of your ideas for my build. Again, awesome work. On the down side, just as you discovered, having all that hardware in place makes replacing/ diagnosing difficult. I am confident you will find the problem and the solution. Kudos.
