8800GT coolers....

how hard is it to mount a fan on the accelero S1? also does it include enough ramsinks? Should I buy more sinks to cool the power circuitry? If so what kind of sinks should I get?

easy peasy to mount I have one done myself and will probably add it to my 8800 later.

I used zip ties, it doesn't come with anything.

Not sure what else to use, but I figure that a 80mm blowing on them is fine. They are slightly warm to the touch. (Same as rest of card)

Ok so I havent really been following this thread but could someone list the coolers known to fit the 8800gt? Do any cool all the necessary circuitry in a single unit? (like the nv silencers)

Ok, I know you have all been talking about all the various coolers available but I'm too lazy to read the thread. will someone summarize it for me?

fixed

Accelero S1 installed on my XFX 8800 GT and idle temps are 38 degrees and load 45 :D

SOOOO much better.. oh yah 120mm antec fan installed.

are there any vga coolers than blow the heat out of the case like with the standard dual slot coolers ? It seems that all third party cooler just blow then into the case too

Good question. One thing I loved about the GTS was the stock cooler exhausted the hot air from the case. As Shades-nl asked, does anyone know of a similar solution for the GT?

Indeed, weird thing they did not do a dualslot or as optional. There is more that enough room for dualslot even with sli. And then the thing that the fan of the stock won't exceed 29%

yes because everyone has time to read through 12 pages? I dont understand your attitude

KW, lets examine how things look from his perspective...

From his perspective it looks like you think that your question isn't important enough to you for you to spend your time answering it (by reading the thread). Then you ask for him to answer it for you.

Why would this cause someone to have an "attitude"? Well, you just implied that his time is so worthless that he should spend his time to answer a question that isn't important to you.

Now, asking questions isn't bad; in fact it'd be a pretty lame forum if noone ever did. However, look at the type of question you asked. What's different about it and a question like...

"Hey guys, I'm wanting to OC, but I don't want my computer to sound like a jet engine. I know that coolers X, Y and Z will all cool like I want, but I can't find anything about how loud they are. Anyone use them and can talk about how loud they are?"

Or maybe like...

"I'm building a system with components X, Y, Z, I've already got this 300W Rosewill power supply. Is it enough or should I get something else?"

Now, compare that with a question like yours...

"Hey guys, could someone go through the thread and make a list of all the coolers y'all have mentioned and note which ones cool everything and which I'd need to get additional cooling to supplement?"

I'm not trying to rant or attack you or anything; you just seemed confused about why people would get annoyed with the type of question you asked, and as you looked like you'd be willing to listen to an answer, I thought I'd try to explain.

your totally wrong and maybe you should think about that... I never asked anyone to go through 12 pages and tell me what they found I was hoping someone who had been part of this thread from the beginning (that already knew the answer without having to read anything) could give me a little summary, in the form a simple, small list...instead I get people with attitude problems...would it not have been just as easy to answer my question then to post flame? You know we cant all follow every thread, if I did my gpa would drop and I would lose my job.

Can we get back on topic.

Are there any dual slot exhaust coolers that will fit this card?

12 pages? you need to set it to 40ppp :D

and don't read every thread on the [H] you'll never have the time. Just read the one that specifically talks about what you are asking.

how is it 'totally wrong'?

and aren't you, by asking someone that has been 'part of this thread from the beginning' to give you a 'little summary', isn't that the same as asking someone to go through 12 pages and tell you what they've found? that's the exact same thing IMO

ok so i have a arctic cooling accelero s1 installed on my old x1950xt 512mb card. question is can i just install the heatsink without the ramsinks? would need to buy new thermal tape, dont feel like waiting lol.

Personally I dont give a crap what your or anyone elses opinion is... if they already know the info all they would have to do is share it...thats all, it's not like I asked anyone to write an effing term paper on 8800gt coolers all I was asking for was some help finding a cooler for my new video card. If you or anyone else has a gd problem with that then keep it to yourself. This will be my last post on this thread because apparently asking questions about 8800gt coolers is out of place in a thread about 8800gt coolers  and this offends people enough to get them completely off topic....so for the sake of keeping this thread on topic I bid you adieu.

The cards are brand new. No one has even had time to design, make and release an official cooler. People are reporting that older model coolers can work, some require modification. Most of these also don't fit the traditional single/dual slot design of the reference cooler. This thread is even full of big colorful pictures if you don't want to read until you find one that looks like what you are asking about.

I am now in possession of a SilenX IXG-80CA. Looks pretty nice. I've plugged in the fan and it's almost dead silent at full tilt. Came with a fan controller and really nifty voltage converter too.

I'll do some testing with the stock cooler and with this cooler as soon as my card comes in and let you guys know what the temp situation is like.

Rivatuner = instant cooling.

I've got the EVGA 8800GT KO (675/1900)

While running ATI Tool:

Fan @ stock - 71c/95c

Fan @ 43% (silence must reign supreme!) - 57c/85c

Dude this card is hot. I've got an instant space heater for my feet now.

Got the vf900 installed. The card is now much cooler, but it didnt want to oc much before, and it still basiclly the same. I tried a few different gpu/shader/mem combos, but each crashed in crysis. Though i hear a lot of oc's work fine in everything BUT crysis.

Anyway my card idles at 40c and loaded seems to be around 54C. Almost 25c improvement under load. Though i may be stuck around stock superclocked speeds.

Installed accelero s1 and, like everyone else, found the RAMsinks to have crappy adhesive (don't they all *cough* HR-03 PLUS *cough*). I used some AS Ceramique as "glue" on one sink that absolutely wouldn't stay put - meanwhile I'm looking at it aggravated as hell b/c I'm hardly moving it...

My temps are 37C idle and 48C load w/o a fan attached. I think it is the superior cooling of my Silverstone TJ-08 that is keeping it this low. Oh, I also OC'ed it to 725/2020 while playing Crysis. Now if only I could get my damn e4400 to 3.0 Ghz (or my e4300 past 2.9 Ghz as well )...

it's not like I asked anyone to write an effing term paper on 8800gt coolers

hahaha, seriously...

I've read all 12 + pages (and enjoyed it b/c this forum is packed w/people who actually want to share their PC knowledge w/each other) AND, here is what I've found:

Most Popular:
Accelero S1 - good cooling (mostly 38C idle, 50 load w/mounted fan) $20 at SVC
Zalman VF900 (Fata1ity version 'slighty better') - slightly less cooling power than Accelero S1 but comes w/fan built in (very quiet I may add) $40 at Newegg

Top Cooling:
Thermalright HR-03 rev a (w/fan) - a chinese review site compared this with the VF1000 and VF900 (correct me on this) $45 at Newegg

Requires modification:
Thermaltake ND-1 - search this forum, someone explains it (requires bending GPU fan pins and removing molex piece) $40 (out of stock at Newegg when I checked)

All of these coolers easily out-perform the stock cooler. I would recommend the accelero for it's price/performance ratio, although you may need to buy a fan, in which case you might consider the Zalman VF900/1000 coolers.

Finally, I'll also add that spending the extra $20-$50 (20 in my case) was totally worth it b/c I dropped temps significantly BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, there is absolutely no noise from my 8800GT anymore. The argument to just buy the next better card makes no sense b/c that 'next' card costs $500. I would need to spend ~$200 on an after-market cooler before you could call me stupid.

Please add to this b/c I know I got something wrong...

so are you using ram sinks or no?

YES, I am using the 8 ram sinks that Arctic Cooling provided with the accelero s1.

I used thermal paste as ADHESIVE, but the stuff is sticky enough to stay put, even when hot. It's kinda like that resistance you feel when pulling off heatsinks b/c the thermal paste is keeping it bonded to the chip or IHS.

Do you have heat spreaders on the Mosfets? Perhaps that is why it is crashing? Mosfets can get hot with an OC

My securing bolts were too thick to secure my waterblock, so I had to re-attach the stock cooler. The pins for the cooler were incredibly stuck down. Is it epoxied in place, or is there a trick to disconnect it.

Anyway it's cooler (somewhat) after giving a more sensible thickness of thermal paste on the GPU.

whas a good after market cooler that doesnt require memory sinks, is there any that the heatsink it self cools the memory along with the chip.

I think you require memory heatsinks. Fortunately many aftermarket heatsinks include them. Check out the SilenX IXG-80CA at NewEgg for a good, quiet, inexpensive one.

Hi,
I've just read all the pages, I hope I keep my job!
Anyway, my BFG is going great, but I would like to use Rivatuner to increase the fan speed over the 29% pre set amount. It this easy to do?
Also, do you have to reinstall Rivatuner when the drivers are updated.
Thanks

I've never used Rivatuner, so I can't answer directly.

nVidia, however, offers nTune, which unlocks all the "performance" sections of the nVidia control panel and does indeed allow you to change the fan speed as well.

Yes, it's easy. No, you don't have to reinstall with a driver update (unlike the old coolbits hack) although you may have to reapply your settings within RT. There are two settings areas within RT, hardware-level and driver-level. Fan speed control is the second tab under driver-level settings (the second customize button on the main screen), and lets you set the fan speed independently for all three performance categories (2D, 3D, and 3D Performance--the last is the one you're in when running games). Monitoring temps is done with the Hardware Monitoring button under the hardware-level settings (the first customize button on the main screen).
