When I replaced my TIM on my HD 5970 it made a difference of 5 degrees on furmark ( I used MX-3 on that one). I will be replacing the TIM on both my 7970s when I get back from work. Also I don't want to make people paranoid. But on my EVGA GTX 280 FTW edition, the screws on the backplate were loose and I did replace the TIM. I don't don't know why the TIM was all over the GPU, spilling to some extent, to the PCB because the guy blew his load on the GPU. I have kinda made it a habbit to disassemble and reassemble the videocards when I get them. Every degree counts![]()
Do you think you can do a before and after comparison? Remember you have to factor in ambient temp and run the exact same load in a controlled environment to get an accurate comparison.
