5870 for 150 shipped

Not sure where you're getting your info from but depending on the game either the 5870 or the 6870 can be faster. A 6950 would smoke either one of them. If u don't believe me go use anand's gpu 2011 bench comparison. That's the reason I held off on this deal because the 6870 would be a wiser buy if don't already have a 5870.

I think the 6950 is a all around better card but I wuoldn't say a 6950 will smoke a 5870. I can't find many benchmarks but I though 6950 is faster in tessellation, dx11 games and 5870 is faster at older games.
This is a bit old but showing only 2% performance overall. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/Radeon_HD_6950/29.html

Anand's comparison is apples to apples. I guarantee u a 6950 2gb would be faster than your 5870 in your box. With that being said, it wouldnt be worth upgrading unless you were going to 6970

Here is a comparison from HardwareHeaven. I do not see any smoking going on here (between AMD cards).

Actually surprisingly the 5870 can even keep up with the 6950 in Hawx2 which uses tessellation.

its very odd, if you use anandtech gpu 2011 comparison the 6870 generally outperforms the 5870. 5870 vs 6970 there is no comparison on the comparison, the 5870 gets destroyed.

Yeah, for me Anand's numbers always seem low, so I don't follow them anymore. From my own experience, my numbers are more inline with [H] & Hardware Heaven.

These benchmarks don't seem to be any newer then the ones from the other sites posted. If you look at the drivers they are using they are all from nov-dec of last year. Either way can't trust just one site. Here is another.

Overall is seems to go 6950>5870>6870 but are all pretty close.

Reviews and benchmarks vary for the 5870 vs the 6950. I've owned both and from my experience, they are both almost the same performance wise. The 5870 is a damn good card.

I have both right now. The 6950 is the better card, but not $65 more a better card.

I just do not see the destruction. No, I do not like Anandtech reviews nor their comparisons. HD6XXXX is not more power efficient.

Um even the link you provided shows the 6950 using 1 more watt idle and 11 watts less power under load than the 5870 while having twice the ram. The 2GB 6970 also uses less power than the 2GB 5870. The 68XX cards use even less. I don't see how any of this equates to the HD6XXX series cards not being more power efficient.

I got my package two hours ago. The cards are huge , look and smell brand new. I am so pleased with packaging. They dwarf my Asus HD5850 DirectCU cards.

Please check your facts.

Every website other than Anand shows the 5870 is much faster than the 6870 and only marginally slower than the 6950. Here's one, for instance: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zotac/GeForce_GTX_560_Ti_448_Cores/27.html (My guess is that Anand tests each card with its original drivers and doesn't retest when new drivers are released. That creates a bias against older cards.)

A 6870 is a wiser buy than the 5870 only if it is significantly cheaper. If I could get a 5870 for $150, I wouldn't spend more than $120 on a 6870.

sigh i ordered the cards separately so i have to wait maybe 2 weeks to crossfire them lol :(

Funny, mine came pre-flashed with a MSI vBIOS.

Just wanted to confirm that this ASUS HD6870 will drive 4 monitors (not in gaming) assuming I have two display port monitors. This is $170 AR @ Amazon.

Regarding this 6870 vs 5870
http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/asus_6870_directcu/17.htm

The 6870s aren't as fast as the prior generation 5870s because of design changes that cut out around 400 million transistors. But, upping the amount of stream processors and changing some key design elements to compensate for the overall decrease in transistor count does help. The overall design is quite a bit smaller and as thus cheaper to make for AMD. And, as testing shows, it was almost as good.

Seems like this one can even drive 5

I presume the 5870 will be able to drive 3 monitors only.

ATI Eyefinity multi-display technology2,4
Three independent display controllers
Drive three displays simultaneously with independent resolutions, refresh rates, color controls, and video overlays

I checked mine and it says ATI (1002). I installed Catalyst 11.11 plus CAPS and BF3 runs smoother than with HD5850 950/1200 crossfire.

How far can it be overcloked withour increasing voltage?

I noticed my idle temps are bit high (45 degrees) with fan set to 21 percent.

Overall, I am more than pleased.:D

Very basic question: will I be able to put an HD5450 and an HD5870 in the same motherboard to drive six monitors?

I have used 8400GS and 8600GTS or dual HD5670s but not something so far apart in the hierarchy.

I am tempted to get this card but need the ability to drive more than three monitors (4 at least, 6 preferably) for business work. This machine will serve as a backup to my main work machine.

What is the length of the card guys? I have a Coolermaster Centurion 5 case with a 4890 +4870 crossfire right now. Is the card the same length as this?: XFX 4890 ZDFC

Mine arrived DOA (I got it around 1 week ago). I sent them an RMA request the day I got it and they still haven't gotten back to me. I'm going to shoot them another email today about it.

I have one in an Antec 300 as well, and it is tight, but it fits. I believe the reference version is 11.1".

My build is in a Centurion 5 right now and the 5870 fit no problem. Also my subvendor is listed as ATI (1002).

Some reason I was getting a pretty big performance hit running FXAA in Skyrim(No AA, and also even on High), not sure what was going on there. Disabled FXAA, set 4xAA, 16xAF and most of the settings on ultra and holy fuck the performance sky rocketed while looking so much nicer. It's probably a problem on my end, my 4850 ran with FXAA just fine and BF3 works flawless with FXAA.

Goddamnit, I'm so tempted to get this but I'm just not sure if I should. I'm still gaming on a 9800GTX and its seriously been showing its age.

The HD7000 series is coming out soon isn't it? Can we expect price cuts on the current 6900-series cards? Or will the 7800-series cards be roughly in this price range?

Mine was running fine for about an hour, then the fan started making a very loud rattling noise. I'll have to contact GearXS about a replacement.

WARNING: It looks like if you do receive a card from them dead like I have they are in no rush to contact you to get it resolved, so just a warning to everyone out there. I've had the DOA card since the 27th and so far I've called 3 times, e-mailed them twice, and filled out two separate RMA forms for them. I still have not received an RMA number for them with an address to mail it back to or the shipping label they claim to provide you with nor has anyone contacted me through any of the means I mentioned above. Though when calling them about it they claim it's a holiday rush, or the person from the RMA department is sick and always say "Just give them another day and they will contact you. The RMA department does not have a phone so you will not be able to speak with them directly, only through e-mail.".

jctusmc03: My wife works for a credit card proccessing company and she has ordered a couple of things from sites that seemed less than reputiable. If they are giving you the run around just contact your CC company and inform them of the situation and request they do a charge back. You will be required to send the item back and the merchant will get penalized by their proccessor. This works even if a they say no refunds, the CC companys dont play around.

You wont have the card, but you will have your money back.
