4850x2 9.1 drivers from the amd/ati site. show some small performance gains and add some new multi monitor and virtual desktop functions.

I heard somewhere that the Core architecture when it runs in 64 Bits, lots of optimizations like Micro ops and macro ops fusion doesn't work, that those are optimizations for 32 Bits only, hope that's not true...
Anyone else think it's odd that 3dMark is ostensibly a graphics benchmark, yet it seems heavily CPU dependent?
That sounds pretty unlikely to me. The CPU's hardware capabilities should be independent of the OS, right?
Performance disparities between XP and Vista are overblown, especially with the release of Vista SP1.

you should check out sp2. i downloaded the rc a week or 2 ago and i am really likng it. even more than win7 (having some probs with my xfi platty and tf2)
I have the Sapphire 8.12's installed, should I just install the AMD 9.1's over the top or do an uninstall? I'm running Vista 32 SP1
This thread asks how to overclock the 4850 X2 beyond CCC limits, which brings up a good question: has anyone noticed performance increases by overclocking? Personally, I haven't seen it. This might be a function of the 4850 X2 needing to push beyond the CCC overclocking limits, but I'm not seeing any improvement in performance even with clocks maxed in CCC.
i used to overclock my vid cards all the time, and i always had problems. i stopped a few years back and not have had a single rma since, except one that was power related. i was getting diminishing returns. a 15 to 20% overclock gave me 2 or 3% gains in frame rates.
you think I would get a higher score/better performance in Vista? 64 or 32 bit ? or will Vista 32 perform about as good as XP ?
Hahahaha for a second, I was wondering why the hell there was wood paneling on your PSU.... Oh reflections, you trick me again![]()
For 30" I'd go with a 4870x2.
I'm tired of people complaining about noise with this card. The black metal cover comes off.....and the plastic fans are attatched by only three screws. Take off the stock fan blades, Buy a couple 1200rpm yate loons fans, zip tie them to the heat sinks, and enjoy better temps than a 4870x2 or gtx285, and a close to silent vid card.....!!!!!!!!!!!![]()
That's a little ghetto compared to the Zalman method a few pages back, IMO.
It's just zip tying fans to the original heat sink. I guess it might be considered ghetto, but if it gives you cooler temps, and quiet operation, without having to remove the stock heat sink....it's worth sacrificing "looks."
hey VG, how do you like your 4850x2?
sorry I haven't read every page in your thread, but you're not running it on a 2560x1600 screen are you?
I'm looking @ one of these to run 2x2001fp's and 1 3007wfp hc's....and I like the fact that I can run 1 GPU to run all 3 monitors
thanks for any info
I cannot figure out the 8pin connector on this card, the 6 pin went in fine, howerver the 8 pin will NOT go all the way in, no matter what I do. I've tried the 8pin to 3pin molex connector, and I cannot get the fans to spin AT ALL....can anyone please help me? I'm so tired and just want this to work.
