$2500 5090 I’m out

Wouldn’t that starve the GPU of fresh air?
Pick your poison if that's your only source of fresh air. The current arrangement starves the CPU of fresh air. Ideally the GPU would receive fresh air from the bottom of the case.

I've given up on closing my cases generations ago....I just leave the side panel off

Here's my 4090 hotness

So far my predictions are true

1. Poor yields due to massive dies at hard stop lithography limits. Will need some non linear thinkers(like a modern day Einstein) to get over this UV wavelength hard stop lithography limit.

2. Peeps are not paying 2500 plus for DLSS and FG improvements. If Lossless scaling can work on any GPU and make a profit at 6.99 USD, why should I pay NVIDIA thousands? See point below for reason.

3. AI and ML users are given priority over gamers, these professional products have huge markups and upgrade costs/profit margins for NVIDIA. For example I ran an XRD in my research center and the post doc decided himself to get rid of Win 7 one evening and go to Win 10, he ended up bricking the line library and it cost 50K to reinstall Win 7 and the line library from a master spectrometer in Germany. Here is the kicker the library took 3 months to clear customs and it came on a USB drive.

4. Get ready for cloud rental subscriptions to game in the near future as more users have high BW/low latency connections like my AT&T fiber.

A quick look today and now there are no more 4070 super cards from first party retailers, only scalped and out of country.

And Newegg is down to just Zotac for 4060 Ti. And only 2-3 4060 8GB cards.

What does Nvidia intend to do? Go out of business for 3-4 months because there aren't any cards?

That's almost all of their product stack unavailable to buy today, and getting worse by the minute.

They already stopped shipping EVERYTHING including the 4060? Because this is how you end up with a quarter where you sell NOTHING in spite of releasing new cards.

I'm not sure if they even have a game plan at this point.

At this rate none of the video card manufactureres are going to make it to the end of the Chinese New Year month without running dry of everything.

And there's no emergency driving this. Having a total train wreck every time Nvidia launches cards is now the industry norm?

I agree with most of this until point 4. We're not solving the latency issue of cloud gaming. I'll quit gaming before I do that shit. As long as there's other products worth purchasing that aren't at the top end I don't see PC gaming going anywhere. I'm kind of dead set on a 5070 ti or 9070 xt at this point. I don't think the 5090 and the 4090 for that matter is indicative of any kind of trend. The Switch 2 will outsell both of them by an order of magnitude or more.

You do realize consumer graphics cards are little more than an after thought at this point right? They could have skipped 5k series and fully exited the market, and it would barely be a hiccup to them. All the money is in ai and ml to massive customers and datacenters. The reason we get the leftovers for the halo consumer products is because 99% of the functional parts are sold to the far more profitable ai/ml crowd.

Lossless scaling does nothing of the same sort as Nvidia's frame generation or dlss scaling does in terms of speed, image stability, or input latency. It's a nice toy, but it's nowhere near the same thing.

I agree give it some time to mature, the pricing of a 5xxx GPU is almost past the law of diminishing returns now.

I'm pretty happy with the GPU temps when applying a power limit. At 75% power limit (420W power draw), GPU temp never goes above 70C and fan at 40%. Losing ~5-10% performance to shave 150W is okay with me for now. I ran my 4090FE at 80% power limit similarly and got a similar 70C @ 40%.

For me it's mostly the fact it dumps all the heat into the case that's the flaw in the design.
Literally every GPU that isn’t a blower style dumps heat into the case.

I should have phrased it better. I was comparing specifically to the prior founder editions.

I think AIBs are still a better design compared to the 5090FE though, as they exhaust outwards into the case rather than directly into the CPU tower.

OP should watch avrtek's take on VCZ. Perhaps getting 7900 XTX instead.

Unless you’re talking about the 20 series, all FE cards since also dumped heat into the case. Redirecting the air out being a better design is arguable. It’s still blowing into the case so instead of the hot air from the fans directly heating your tower, it’ll be the hot air inside the case being circulated by your cpu fan heating it, all while having less efficient cooling on the gpu.

More performance, more power, more heat dumped into the same case. It's not the physics of heat transfer that's changed, it's the amount. Air towers on the CPU are dinosaurs, you need to be extracting that energy out of there entirely. Or better yet do it with the new 575w monster GPU. One of them at least, if you want to keep your side panel.

As I am continuing with my AIO 14900k for the time being, I am looking hard at that MSI Liquid Suprim. I want both processing units dumping heat externally. Thinking of stacking the rads. Would be an interesting experiment, for science of course!

Funny looking back at how this started. Getting a 5090 for only $2500 is sort of a pipe dream at this point.

Lol yep....but look at the bright side.....the more you can't buy the more you save and there is also an old Tennessee saying fool me once shame on you.....fool me twice....uhhhh....uhhhh......can't get fooled again!

Need that 5090? Where is it?
Zotac has their pre built 5080 PCs for 3 Gs or higher in stock.

Supposedly Best Buy will have it for pickup in store for me tomorrow. Assuming nobody at the store steals it. Best Buy took my money so I am assuming I will get a card.
Great. Hold onto your panties as you see the fps fly... ;)

The number of PC cases I have seen over the years with the smelly rust line inside the case at the bottom of the case door.

Newegg up to crummy practices again. Increased prices of TUF OC and Astral OC by 250 or so dollars. Already all other cards are 40 bucks more expensive than MSRP except the 1999 ones.

They could have sold a ton of older 4xxx cards now too with all this disappointment and still made money.

Any coil whine or other issues?
Hard to tell because I had a ton of game installs running in the background and the CPU cooler, Noctua D15, was running full tilt. I also sit far away and my case has sound insulation.
Any coil whine or other issues?
System is loud due to much higher CPU temps in game and CPU fans spinning up, as I feared.

My case is 16 years old. FT01. I’ll need a new case to quiet things down.
